Panda's pretty good, I haven't used it for long yet, but I hear it's nice, and so far it's nice. Also, Zone Alarm is totally free, though it doesn't hurt to pay for ZA Pro.

Lol. My parents had ZA Pro (full) and it worked fine for 'bout a month, then it started prompting us to renew our liscense even when we had the day before. We finally gave up and got AVG instead. Great program, i recommend it.

Wait a min...AVG is an antivirus, while ZA is a firewall. Shouldn't you have both?

Right, but for some things, you get what you pay for.

The thing is, though, attacks and threats to your computer are not as prevalent as some may assume. Sure, there is the occasional random hack, but it doesn't happen too often, and as long as you practice safe computing, you should be more than fine. That being said, I honestly don't see a reason to dropping 30 or so dollars on software that you could get for free, and that will be used only for the occasional worm or virus.

I did this online check thingy, and the result was:
*Your PC is invisible to any would-be hackers. Congratulations!
Thing is, five minutes later, I got attacked. But hackers are powerless against the mighty unplug-my-modem trick!
