that which is not dead can eternal lie, but with strange aeons even death may die.

So is this Karma system similiar to the "GameSpot" forum,

where you gain exp, and level for Posting?

or is it pretty much like "Rep" on XBL

I got 5 Full Golden Stars. *feels speshul*

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

It means that someone with gold text posted in the thread. In this case, it was Achronos. Sometimes you might see Frankie or Sketch, too. And I think runningturtle has it too. I don't know if I missed anyone.

Osmosis!

If there were to be a karma system, you wouldn't want everyone dishing it out; the multiple accounts would go through the roof. Everyone but members (as in the rank under our name) could give karma... but then... do you really think 50 people would want to do that for how many million? What I'm saying is, there isn't a low enough moderator:member ratio for the karma system to be used effectively.

Would be cool though

I believe that Achronos mentioned that any karma system would be automatic, and it would not be up to anyone to hand out "points". And I am fairly sure that even if someone had to do it, it would not be left to the average member.

Man, I hate that thing. I hope it never comes here. Here, at least everyone is equal. Any where with Karma, now you've got Popular People™ and people being total A-holes saying "I have over 200+ karma, ha ha"

I have one idea for a karma system. Don't know if it's any good, but I'll throw it out anyway:

Only the mods can give "points." They, however, cannot remove these points. Now we give these points to the good people, because they help out/contribute in a positive way. As their number of points increase, they get little rewards, such as avatars, perhaps even entrance to a special forum (just mentioning stuff here). However, when someone has, let's say accumulated a hundred points, than that person can give 'points' as well. let's say, someone with 150 points, has 15 points to pass out.

So the more points someone gets, the more points (s)he can give. This way, it won't all depend on the mods, but nobody can simply "boost" someone's point total, because everyone else only has a limited amount to spend.

So, what if someone gets naughty? Simple, if someone gets really naughty, that person will most likely get banned, just as usual. however, being banned means an automatic loss of points. say, ten points per day of blacklisting. A seven day ban means 70 points lost, 14 days means 140 points, etc. A two month ban means loss of all points.
This way, moderators don't have to keep up with the 'removal' of points, because that's all handled automatically.

Dunno, I'm blabbing here. Goodbye.

jaf, I like your idea, but I could maybe expand/change it a bit.

What if the moderators could give a + and - for each post they see a member have. If a member makes a good post, they could hit the +. If the member makes a negative post, they could hit the -.

If it's an average post, no boost or decline is necessary. This would definatly give the people who make consistently good posts and good rating, and those who make bad posts, and a bad rating. Then, say, if the member starts bragging about their rating, you could always bump it down a bit. This would keep it in control and un-abused.

And, like you said, people with better ratings have more access to various features, etc.

No, I have an idea for a karma system. You all give me all the good karma you possibly can, and give eachother bad karma. ;)

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement

You'll do it, and while you're doing it you better have a big grin on your face, or you'll have to keep doing it until you do!

Anyway, I dont think there is a way to have a karma system that doesnt lend itself to some sort of exploitation.

Am I the only one who is having problems with Marines sig? It makes the page scroll very slowly.
