I have one idea for a karma system. Don't know if it's any good, but I'll throw it out anyway:
Only the mods can give "points." They, however, cannot remove these points. Now we give these points to the good people, because they help out/contribute in a positive way. As their number of points increase, they get little rewards, such as avatars, perhaps even entrance to a special forum (just mentioning stuff here). However, when someone has, let's say accumulated a hundred points, than that person can give 'points' as well. let's say, someone with 150 points, has 15 points to pass out.
So the more points someone gets, the more points (s)he can give. This way, it won't all depend on the mods, but nobody can simply "boost" someone's point total, because everyone else only has a limited amount to spend.
So, what if someone gets naughty? Simple, if someone gets really naughty, that person will most likely get banned, just as usual. however, being banned means an automatic loss of points. say, ten points per day of blacklisting. A seven day ban means 70 points lost, 14 days means 140 points, etc. A two month ban means loss of all points.
This way, moderators don't have to keep up with the 'removal' of points, because that's all handled automatically.
Dunno, I'm blabbing here. Goodbye.
