ive been playing since cal (the only real competitive league for pc) and i was wondering why since version 1 the netcoding has never been fixed. back in the day servers were alot faster and such and shots registered better. i know the game is dead and all but if u guys make an anti hack of some sort (ex vac 2 and punkbuster) and fix the net coding so the shots register like xbox lan that would be awesome. its not really that much to make since uve probally got an anti hack for h2v and im hoping to God there is no lead in h2v and that it plays like h2.

just make h2v play like h2xbox!

Ahahahaha! Fix the netcode! How so very funny. Oh, yes, we're all a crack team of coders with months to spend doodling in a system of coding that would takes many months to rewrite. Then what? Apply it to our own system of Halo?

Rewrite the netcode; now I think I've heard every preposterous thing there is.

One of us! One of us!

Sorry, dude, but this just ain't happening! Bungie pulled the plug on Halo PC about three or so years ago.

Okay, the reason for such...brutal treatment is mostly because we've also at one point or another petitioned Bungie to release a patch that will alter the netcode or to stop the aimbot.

Another thing: Bungie doesn't read its forums, at least when H1PC is concerned.

The few, the proud, the leet.

None of you guys seem to realize that the netcode can not be fixed without a complete overhaul to the engine itself. Halo's multiplayer ONLY works as it would in a LAN. The only difference is that the host function was shifted to a dedicated serverside application. Just WHY do you think that when a 56k player joins into a dedicated server game that player lags and creates problems for everyone else and not just for that player?

If any of you were around from the early days of Halo 2 deving, you'll remember all the talk about how the entire engine was being restructured to function with XBL and a non-LAN multiplayer environment in general. You can't evade the current way Halo's netcode works out unless you do the same.

edit: And btw, CAL absolutely sucked. TWL all the way.

I might be wrong, but couldn't they overhaul the engine, then?

And if not, then way to go testers.

I do believe I didn't just say rewriting the netcode but the whole system that it uses as well (or, as you prefer the term, the engine).

But basically what the Silent Photographer is trying to say is that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of even trying to fixing it unless they just rebuilt the game from the ground up. Let's hope Halo 2 doesn't follow the same path though, and to quote Cortana:

"If I had fingers they'd be crossed!"

Btw Zeph, is everyone from Gearbox/H2V.net also here?

Bungie hates PC users because Micr$oft bought Bungie and screwed them up the ass, all because they saw how uber-leet Oni was, and wanted Bungie's next project for M$'s new console. That's Halo on Xbox.

=Slightly off-topic= Oni rox. I recently found the demo, and love it. If anyon knows where I can get a LEGAL copy of it for PC, tell me.

Yesh, that is what I'm saying. The engine itself is designed for xboxes to communicate to one another directly with a LAN. One of the earliest landmarks passed for Halo 2 was the restructure of the engine to allow for higher latencies, WAN connections, and integration of XBL features. Where H1 was designed for LANs, Halo 2 treats LANs as a really fast WAN.

And I think a vast majority of them do. I've been here pwning reality into the typical ignorant neubs head. Resistance is strong, but it's not hard since it's simply reiterations of the truth. There are a few success cases around here, so it's not a total waste of my time.

>_>
also, I have another agenda that has me not mind being here.

Darn, I knew there was something I wanted to do on my lunch break... rewrite the netcode for Halo!

Personally, I like having to lead my shots. I'd write that into the newer versions if it were up to me. I'd just make it consistant so the ping to the server didn't matter so much.

I disagree, Simon. Halo PC's netcode is much more of a hindrance than a boon to players. I am disappointed that one must lead. However, I don't mind it so much.

I played with H2S Ninja (Himura_Kenshin) the other day on Xbox Connect over a game of Halo Combat Evolved. I must say it was quite easy to 3SK and double melee. But then again, it's probably due to the auto-aim.

Halo PC's netcode FTL!
