I'm really anxious about posting anything anymore...its like everything is so strict...I mean you make one tiny little screw up and instead of getting a warning...WAM! 7 days of your Bungie life are gone. The next time its like your Bungie life is gone with no chance of redemption...well thats exaggerating a little but still...I'm scared I might say something bad or put something in the wrong syntax or maybe post too many times. I know the rules have to be strict because of the countless morons and idiots...but can't you be a little more leniant (I hope I spelt that right lest I get called a complete mindless idiot) to the people who are at all other times playing it straight? Maybe this whole thing has been addressed elsewhere and I didn't see it or maybe I'm just whining too much. I know everyone should be treated fairly...but should a first timer be treated the same as a repeat offender? I'm not trying to attack the system, I just want to be informed by a huch higher intellectual exactly how this stuff works. I've read the rules, but still. This place used to not be so strict.

Actually, the mods are pretty lenient. If you make what appears to be a mistake, you'll get a warning, but you won't be banned. Now you're thread will be locked or deleted, but what do you expect to happen? Now, of course, if you do something really bad, you'll be banned, but as long as you read the rules and follow them, you should have an idea of what you shouldn't do. You shouldn't be scared. Basically, as long as you aren't a jerk to other people, and don't post about cheating or anything else that would be considered "bad," you'll be just fine. There's no actual limit to the number of times you can post, provided those posts aren't all in a row in the same topic.

You'll never know unless you try.

Relax, the mods aren't that evil...or are they
Unless you do something really really bad, you wont get blacklisted.

Somewhat evil, I hear. Don't worry, I am overly lenient I think, I only blacklist the people who don't learn from multiple warnings.

I like the way Mabian put that.

And yeah, things are 'lax for the most part. But the phrase "Think before you post" cannot be stressed enough.

If you think something is going to break the Rules, then don't post it. That's all. And as long as you follow the Rules, adhere by the CoC, and contribute, you'll be fine.

I've seen plenty of offenders who I think "Boy, he's gone" but are still there. But that doesn't mean they aren't being watched closer. I notice some of the Ninja use a "3 Strike" policy. Others just sweep in and '86 someone for an inappropiate post.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: if you think something you're going to post is going to offend someone or break any Rule, then delete and start over, or edit if it has been posted. And people need to learn that they aren't invincable from punishment.

But it's something you either pick up quickly on, or gradually learn. Depends on the individual though.

And if you don't want to get blacklisted by Pezza, I suggest reading the Code of Conduct, Forum rules, and the stickies on each forum you post on

I've got an excellent example that the mods are pretty lenient. Take a look at the Underground. There are 10 threads on the front page at this moment that are locked, and all of those members broke a rule, such as making a thread that was off-topic for the forum or about Xbox Live. Those would be considered simple mistakes (hopefully), and the moderators simply locked the threads. Only one person was blacklisted, and that was, apparently, for making a political (and possibly religious) topic, which is a very big no-no.

Trust me (and if you don't want to trust me, there are plenty of other people you can trust, like Pezza), you'll be fine. Just read and follow the rules, and you won't get in trouble.

It is the motto of HFCS.

We are somewhat evil.

You are scared to post because you think you might be blacklisted for breaking the rules? Good! And no, I'm not evil, but that actually is a good thing. It will make you think twice about what you post and you might realize that what you were going to post was against the rules.

The rules aren't that hard to understand nor follow; so if you are scared to post something, you obviously know that it is not something that should be posted.

Just check and make sure Shishka hasn't logged on recently, and then you'll be fine ;)

But, to beat an old horse- The mods are nice, you usually have to completly disregard them to get a ban.

Wow Rant.

I read that whole post and found it pretty thought out. Though concerning the part about the "Stickies" and Rules are a bit subjective, at least the way I see it.

There are two ways to get the rules across: The harsh way and the kind way. There's no real "right way" because everyone who does it does it differently.

Now lets say a thread is somewhere it shouldn't be. You're going to see people either cussing the person out about it being in the wrong forum, or you'll see people trying to help by providing the link and an explanation.

In the end, it depends on how the person reacts to it. A good member who is new and wants to contribute to the community will (should) be thankful for a post that gets the point across politely. But a post that says "WRONG FORUM," will definitely not provide a good first experience on this site. Something like "You might want to try This Forum" would help more than hurt.

So I guess it depends on the person. But you won't be afraid to post if you know what your posting is ok.

Don't be scuuurrrd.

Posting is fun! Big reason I came back, there are a ton of really cool individuals on these forums. Just talking about anything and everything Bungie, as well as random stuff in The Flood makes my day a lot of times, might be ad in someones mind, but I love this community(=

Post away! But of course don't be a SPAMhead.(=

I like to Rollick

I personally agree with how shishka uses a 7 day blacklists as a warning.

I don't want to hear little silly warnings about my conduct. If you think my actions warrant a blacklist then blacklist me, I don't get the point of silly vague warnings, they're a waste of time. No one would take a warning as seriously as a blacklist.

Now for the newer members an initial warning might be acceptable but I still lean towards the blacklist as being the warning.

On the forum cop tip, most of them are hypocrites so I don't really pay attention to them.

I'm never afraid to post.. I know the rules, and I know how to avoid breaking them. It's pretty simple, and still, at the same time, very free.

Besides, all the mods cower in fear when I post. It's just how things work around here.

I personally think the mods are both evil AND fair. Just like Darth Vader.

But asides that I like that the forums are quite open and that the only thing that should restrict what you say is your own common sense.

Stop being so paranoid. You won't get ban't if you're not an arse, it's that simple =]

EDIT: And Rant makes a good point. I hate to say that you should just read his reply, because I feel that mine serves little purpose now. I spam =[
But he made a lot of good points. Don't be worried. Whatever happens, happens.

Prognatus Archos

There was a discussion on this topic in late September. Most people agreed the leniency would simply open the door for immature members who can not control what they type. The rules are very straight forward. So long as your posts are constructive you will not be banned. Moderators know how to judge, if they think you did no mean any harm they will likely give you a warning. The banning stories, of totalitarianism on this site are mostly told by those that can not follow simple guidelines, and are unable to post with out an insult, or other wise on an irrelevant topic. Finally banishment is is issued to those who exhibit malicious behavior. So basically it boils down to...
* Be constructive
* Do not flame or insult one another
* Do not intentionally go off topic repetitively.

These three things are easily understood, and most likely you follow them with out even knowing it. It probably requires more effort to be banned, than it does not to be.

Of course there are extra things in your posts that will label you as being a good member as apposed to being an excellent member. For example...
* Correct grammar
* Activity
* Tolerance of newer members who have questions
* Knowledge and understanding of how the community works

These things as well as many others will likely get you a plus sign in any reader's book. Everyone likes an intelligence poster.

I'm afraid to drive on the highway becase I'm afraid the big bad police man will come over and stop me! I shall now stop going to the store to eat and starve to death! Hmph. People are mean and cruel. If you can't handle it here then good luck functioning in the real world. Adapt. The surroundings will not change, so you must do the changing.

Remember, morals are like anvils. People never actually use them to forge things worthwhile, as per their design. The only time you actually see them is when they are being dropped. Usually this is on someone else's head.

Get used to it.
