With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I can speak a depressingly small amount of French, and I'm in the process of learning Japanese.

Ii, otenki desu ne.

Oterai ni ite mo ii desu ka?

This is the only line of Japanese I can remember after the 2 years I took it in high school.

I can speak Dutch fluently, and I am also in the process of learning French.

PS - What's with Japanese?

Oterai ni ite mo ideska?
.

This is why roomaji (romanization of japanese words (aka, spelling them with the western alphabet)) is evil. Spelling things as they sound doesn't always turn out just right.

I think the last word should be split up into ii desu ka (the "su" being more of an "s" sound).. I'm not sure though, since the phrase is unfamiliar to me... so I could be wrong.

Japanese is an incredibly interesting language... 3 writing systems, different meanings for some words that are spelled exactly the same (detectable through pitch sequences in saying the word). People who speak it will know what your saying even when you only have certain words, which, when translated into english, would be insufficient to make sensible sentences... An incredibly polite language as well.

An interesting thing: Several ways to say thank you:

Doomo (pronounced domo, informal)

Arigato (slightly more formal)

Doomo Arigato (a bit more formal, increasing in politeness)

Arigato Gozaimasu (even more formal, very polite)

Doomo Arigato Gozaimasu (super formal, super polite)

Arigato gozaima-blam!-a (thank you for what you did (past tense))

And its fun as hell to learn.

You didn't need to fix it... but I take comfort in the fact that I was actually correct about something for once (I make a lot of stupid mistakes in college... college is tough.. unlike high school). Thank you.

Could you enlighten me as to what the phrase means? I'd appreciate it.

Heh... the profanity filter at its work again... A japanese person wouldn't even be able to say verbs in past tense on these forums...

I wasted the two years I took it goofing off with my friend.

Another interesting fact about the Japanese language: there are so many characters in Kanji, reading the local newspaper can require the use of a dictionary.

The above phrase means: May I please go to the bathroom?
Why the hell is this the only thing I can remember?

A key thing to remember when stuck in a class with a dictator for a teacher, I suppose.

Another interesting fact about Japanese newspapers: They have Kanji (chinese characters), numbers, roomaji, hiragana (used for japanese words), AND katakana (used for foriegn words)... Those newspapers hurt my mind just looking at them. <Shudders>

See, the problem was that he was too lenient. Everyone in class could do as they please and students would hardly get in trouble for it. My friend and I never pushed his buttons very hard, but we hardly ever paid attention. And as you can see it really shows. When I go to ASU next semester, I plan to retake the class and master it.

There seem to be a few more german speakers than i expected, but i guess thats just due to its declining popularity in Britain. Ill give a sample of some of my basic german. If you wish answer the questions.

Wie hiesst du? (or wie hiessen Sie. Annoying having no esszed symbol)
Wie alt bist du?
Wo wohnst du?
Wie komme ich am beste zum Bahnhof, bitte?

Sorry to any Germans, but my grammer is awful. Oh, and sorry for not using the formal questions, just the informal ones were the ones we normally used at school, so come more naturally to my head.

Souffle de grenouille le noyau de passage!

Shai, I never thought of you as a linguist.

Aussehen, ich sprechen Deutsch. Können Sie das machen?
