The only coin for which I have to purchase loyalty is honor.
Prognatus Archos
Yellow means bungie employee, white means forum ninja. Here I wrote this a while back.
Moderators and everything about them
Here I wrote this a while back.Due to the growing number of questions, and comments that fall under the rank of forum ninja. Here is a brief synopsis of everything pertaining to moderators.
If bungie.net was a country then the moderators would most defiantly be the police force, or army that kept peace, and order through out the community. There are several levels of moderator, all of which will be addressed in the following document, as well as a brief summary of each of their positions. In addition I will cover the basics of what it takes to be a moderator. I am assuming that by reading this, you have an interest, or a curiosity that falls under the category of moderators. My hope is that by the time you finish reading this you will no longer need to post endless threads in the septatgon, as well as still be desperate to glean information on them.
Here are the levels of “ninja” a term that Bungie uses to refer to their online moderators. You will also notice the term theme master, I will later explain what this group is.
Ranks
(Listed from highest to lowest in the hierarchy.)
* Bungie.net Overlord- This marks the highest point of our bungie.net rank hierarchy. There is only one overlord. He is known as Achronos. The rank it self has administrator access to the site, which in short means he can change anything in it at will. People often view him as the face of Bungie, at least online. (Bungie Staff)
* Community Guy- Defiantly a big one in the list of hierarchs Sketch factor comes out at second in the hierarchy. Judging by his rank, I would have to say he is supposed to interact with the community. Which is exactly what he does. (Bungie Staff)
* Master Form ninja- These are the highest ranked members of the moderator force, who are not hired by Bungie. Their job is to watch over the forums, and to execute tasks such as perma-banning which can not be done by normal forum ninjas.
* Forum ninja- The first step in the a ladder, of b.net ranks. Can temporarily ban, lock, pin, and (move topics I am not entirely sure if they can do this. Remove if they can not.)
* Theme Master- The final rank, does not really fit into the list of ninjas they are a different category all together. These are individuals who have created their own themes, submitted them, and had them approved by the b.net staff.
Extra perks of being a moderator…
Bungie.net staff can be recognized by the orange font that they type in on the forums. As well as their custom avatar.
Ninjas can have custom avatars, as well as white font.
Theme masters can have custom avatars.
How to Become a Ninja
First rule of becoming a ninja, do not under any circumstances ask to be one EVER! Doing this will get you put on the least likely to ever be one list. The best way to become a moderator is to constructively post, helpful, and tolerant to new members, be knowledgeable of the inner workings of the community. (Join groups for this, rise through the ranks, once you get in a place of authority, become friends with the leaders of other groups, and stay in touch with them. They can be valuable sources of information, and will usually help you to know what is going on in the community. Avoid “Group War”) In addition to your track record of behavior, Achronos also looks for certain traits in individuals. Such as…
-Judgment—Your ability to weigh situations.
-Contribution—How much you contribute to the community.
-Activity—How active you are in the community.
-Leadership skills—Good leaders make good ninjas. Being a good leader shows your ability to make decisions, and have your own opinions, and view on things.
Also do not “suck up” to the ninjas, doing so will just be more spam that they (the ninjas) have to deal with, as well as show off your inability to lead.
How to become a Theme Master
Theme masters are those who have created new themes (the design of chapter pages).
To create your own theme you will need either extremely good MS paint skills, or a series of tools. Here is a link to a nice Q, and A style post that explains theme masters. Link to post
Theme Masters have their own group
The group “Theme Masters” was founded by Sir Fragula on July, 6 2005. Here is a link to their page. Theme Masters I find it ironic that they are using the default theme, when they are a group that was founded exclusively for theme makers.
The HFCS
The ninjas like any other group of people, has their own chapter. It is called the HFCS, it was founded by Stosh (a master forum ninja) on April, 19 2004. Here is a link to the main page. HFCS home page. Don’t try to join though, or you will be “smited”.
Over all the Ninjas at Bungie are no different in their knowledge of the future Bungie games (other than Sketch, and Achronos who are both Bungie staff.). Although people try to gain their support, by worshiping them (them being the ninjas) many of the ninjas just prefer to be known as another member of b.net with greater responsibilities. In fact some even find it insulting to be patronized by other members, because they know that theses statements are more than likely attempts to better their chances at becoming a future ninja. If you wish to be a ninja, don’t try to become one. If you naturally fit the character of one, then you will be picked. Other than that do not waste your time worrying about it, enjoy the community, found a group, and who knows maybe one day you will get that message from Achronos telling you how he wants you to join the moderating team.
