I think you shouldn't worry about building up your stats too much. Americans having a head start might make you seem like a noob to us for a week or two based on stats alone, but you'll catch up. Plus, I think you should let your guns do the talking, not your stats. People will know you're a good player when you start blowing them away before they even notice you're there. Skill is something people will remember and something practice, a Nov. 9th release date and stats can't garuntee.
Besides, if you're worried about other players being better becaue they get to play Halo2 first, then play plenty of Halo:CE before the game comes out. From what I gather, Halo2 feels like a natural extension and you shouldn't have much trouble picking up new weapons and getting your kills in. Patience.
