What would it be used for? If there's anything that the whole community needs to know it's posted in the News section on the front page.

MBT has recently been assigning volunteering member pages of members to PM a set message. They are doing this to try making some inactive members visit MBT more often.

I was thinking, wouldn’t it be good to have a PM all members button some where for the group to use. It would seriously help some groups get there members active. The only problem is that some people might spam there members so there would need to be a limit of times you could use the button (say once a month or so). Also only people with full control should be allowed to do it as to avoid messages being sent with out permission of the group owner.

What do you think about it?

Could you propose one situation where sending everyone a PM would be more efficient than posting a news article?

I could see it as a useful item for admins of groups. But site-wide announcements are best handled via front-page news articles.

I would rather see a PM "sent items" folder.

Agreed. Having to ask people to quote your message back to you is just soooo big-headed.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Recon's right; a PM all members function would only be useful for chapters.

On the one hand, chapters do have their own front page with super awesome news submitting tools for specified security groups to see, but on the other hand a PM is rarely never read; much unlike chapter news articles.

I just want to point out that this is not a site for sending emails. This is a community forum. If you would like to talk to people, use the PM system. But if you feel it isn't enough, don't bother with it and find people's emails and talk through there. Its much easier and faster and puts less stress on this site.

On top of that, we still get a buttload of spam messages through the PM system as it is. I don't want to be getting those more than i am now from this possibility. If you want to let a chapter know something, post it on the news for that chapter.

I personally think this is a good idea.
Reasons Being:
-Some members dont check email
-Some dont read news articles
-Some are inactive in the group and could use a reminder to be active

But there are some Cons also:
-Admin. could SPAM members
-people could abuse the priveledge

Which Is why I think that this should be put into B.Net but on a limited basis.
Say for example an admin can only use this once a week/month to cut down on spam and if the moderators recieve alot of complaints you could yank it out and everything back to normal.Any comments?

Well personally, if a chapter admin abused the pm all feature, i wouldn't want to stick around in that chapter any more. If an admin wants to abuse it, it’s really their loss.

Also i don't see any reasoning behind heavy limitations (days, months etc). Should this feature be put into effect, i couldn't see there being much problem as long as people are smart about what chapters they join and who chapter founders make admins.

I dont agree that we as a community should be responsible for keeping members too lazy to read the news informed. If they dont check thier email, dont read the news, and are inactive in thier groups, are they really part of the community anyway? I vote no.

They could be part of the Bungie Community just not as active in your group as they could be,which would let them know that your still there.

News? Podcasts? Machinima? Active forums? Competitions? Jaffa Cakes!? OMG!
Thee Warriors!

Best. Mod. Ever.

1. Could bring on a hail of spam. You never know what a Ninja might do... <_< ... >_>
2. Lag! 1.8 million PMs sent at the same time, or even over the course of a day could have some major lagging effects.
3. Accidental use; Image Shishka forming one of his dirty 'chit-chat' emails to Frankie. He hits the 'Mail all users' button by mistake while the nirvana of the moment takes him. Boom! Their secret it out. Imagine the headlines:

"Shishka reveals all in this erotic email! Click here!"
Lord of the wet dreams...

Edit:
Only a fictional example of course... *cough*

It's just my opinion, but I dont really think its necessary. I would rather have them arrange the list of Halo forums on the right so the forums are listed top to bottom in order of release date with the oldest release on top.

The problem I see lies along the same lines as Twinkiemaker's logic. If a member is part of the group and wants to be informed, they will check the news or resource sections. Sending out a PM at that point wouldn't produce anything effective because the people who care are the people who already know (or would have known without the PM). Members who are inactive are either too busy, or don't care. If they're too busy, they won't read the PM because they don't get on, and if they don't care, they won't care when they get the PM.

Plus it would be kind of annoying to be an active member of a group, and still get a reminder that you should be active in the group.

There could be a box next to everyones names and you could choose how many and who you want the PM to go to.

Of course, large group admins will have to go through all of the tedious work of marking off a lot of members.

I despise the idea of a "PM all members" button. However, if you want to send out important messages, each group could have a "Private Message List" that each member would have to manually sign up to in order to get updates. That would definitely work, without sending pointless messages to members who don't care, despite the fact that you can tell all each member where they can find news, and tell them to check that place regularly for updates, and it wouldn't require any work on the site.

A PM " sent Folder " would also be good.

And I also like the PM all "Group" members button. If the admin was to abuse the PM all button, then people would just leave the group. So you see it is a safe button to add and one that deserves a lot of "fore thought" by the admin, prior to its useage.

My two cents worth. dave
