I've been looking in all of the forums lately, and have noticed a lot of conventions errors. I know that bad spelling and grammar is inherent with any internet talking service, but this is ridiculous. I think that if Bungie put a spellchecker in the forums and the message windows, sentences would become a lot more coherent around here. I know at least a few people would use it (I would) and I'm not asking for Bungie to stop production on Halo 2 or the off-topic forum or the new mod selectioin process, I just think that it would be a good idea for the future.

No forum EVER has a standard level of English. It's just something you've got to live with.

Just download a spellchecker so you can spell check any thing you type on the net.

Yeah, that's exactly what I do. Before I log in I always bring up my handy Microsoft Word in case I don't know how to spell a word. On longer posts I always run them through Word before I post them, just to make sure I didn't accidentally spell something wrong.

Either you were trying to be funny or you really don't speak english very well. Not good. :D

Oh this is a must for Yoozel. He needs it as of late. I just read over my post and if I ever misspell anything I just, well, spell it correctly. My misspelling...ness... is normally just a typo. Not a lack of understanding...stuff.

There's a web browser called Safari, my friend has it. When he types stuff into the forum, it will underline misspelled words. However, he was too lazy to go back and correct the errors and he simply didn't care. So even if there was a spell checker, some people would ignore it anyway.

What? I have safari and it never does that. That's odd. Maybe my safari doesn't like me. Unless I have to set it or something...

Stosh pointed out a few downloadable programs that will work with your browsers and correct your spelling errors. Live killa uses one of them and I've never seen 'the' spell 'teh' anymore!

Why don't they just add a translator too? So you can pick the language you read it in :-p..

That's slight sarcasm....

Yes, it's not turned on by default. I don't have my mac anymore so I can't remember exactly how to turn it on. But it's easy. Just look around in your menus.

The program I was talking about is called IESPELL. It's a spell checker plugin for ie. Very handy! Easy to install as well.

There's a similar program for mozilla and firefox. I forget what it's called though.

It would also be helpful if users could be encouraged to not use AOL shorthand. It is just annoying to see a post that is like, "but if u wer a elite, wouldnt u nt do tht?" Just an example...

I go under edit and see spelling. I go to that and see ... wait! It works! I have to be typing for it to work, lol. I love you stosh ;) :P (In a very straight non -blam!- way, of course) Haha funny I found it while saying it doesn't work. Even funnier I am too lazy to delete the part of me asking you how it works and then I saw the light. So it only works while you type. This is awesome. Hold on one second while I check spelling.

Nice, just checked it and no mistakes. Time to hit submit.

And I just had to have my dictionary lear stosh's name so it doesn't come up as a mistake every time I type it. :D

Of course, you missed the spellchecking flaw - "Bungie" would come up as incorrect.

I'm really tempted to see if the web address bungee.net is avaliable. I'd buy it and get all kind of hits because people can't spell bungie. =D

My forum does, considering that my forum is a group of 30-ish of the best posters from the old SWG beta boards.

You'll find that the vast majority of actual forum vets have very good understandings of grammar.

You'll also find that people who usually post in the Sepatgon have higher than average concepts of grammar. Most of them are forum vets, so yes, you are right as well.

Thanks, stosh. This is the first time I've checked this post since yesterday and am surprised by all of the replies. I guess it was stupid of me to expect everybody to use the spell checker and give up their AIM contractions. However, I downloaded the IESPELL program and am about to check it out.

Wow, that's good, but I had to add my name to it so it doesn't think I spelled it wrong every time. Thanks, stosh.

Yes it is true, many veterans here do make some attempt to spell things correctly. (or as close as possibile, such as myself. )
