I think bungie would do fine with images,

but its not up to me.

Imagine, for me, Johnny Flamer and Bobby Spammer. They can create new accounts within the course of about 5 minutes. They can upload pictures of anything they want. And Johnny and Bobby have a lot of family members that think just like them. Johnny and Bobby and their family will upload the most disgusting pictures they can in order to get on everyone else's nerves. Once they are banned, they make a new account, and start all over again.

Do you really want to give that family the ability to upload any picture they want for their avatar?

The most a community like that would get is about 500,000. Bungie.net gets millions of hits DAILY. Think about that, and the .NET passport system, which is used on countless big corporate sites, not to mention even microsoft.com.

I agree, they shouldn't do it.

But what if...?

What if, they did do it... but... in your Settings, you had the option (THE OPTION!) to turn on or off the ability to see personalised avatars, sort of like the Xbox Live gamerpic thing - except without the friends list (Bungie am lacking <3).
Anyone?
Anything?
No?

...Ok...

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

Custom avatars for this site won't work on so many levels. The only level that needs mentioning has already been mentioned. That being, idiots would upload as much p0rn as they possible could before being banned. An automatic filter won't work.

Its not a bad idea, and I'm sure the online team could figure out a way to make it work, but it would require much more time and effort thatn its worth.

I vote no.

To the original poster, if you're interested in adding new features to Bungie.net, you should check out the newly installed search function. It allows you to search for topics such as these and realize that this topic has been discussed on numerous occasions, therefor, saving you the time of making another pointless post.

This website has far too many immature members to have pictures. Very naughty things would pop up. The idea of Bungie.net being a pornographic website would become a realty.

Yeah but your saying that like its a bad thing. Hobo is right though, he and iceman are always so darn politically correct that im about to puke. Are they human, are they bred in some underground lab within the bungie facillity?? So many questions.

Whoa, Deja Vu.
I already said this in another thread about the same thing..
I guess I'll just repost it.

Bungie moderators do not have the time or energy to censor every single picture we put in our signatures. And I know people will go running around with some sort of adult content in their signatures, as some do now with their links.

It'd be too easy to pop a picture in, and scar some kids for life before the moderators got around to you. And if it weren't as easy, then it would make someone else's job incredibly difficult.

It's not worth the battle, imo.

That site is powered by vBulletin, which would never stand up to the amount of traffic this place generates.

And no, we don't have the time to police each and every dirty avatar that would immediately be posted by each and every bored twelve year old on this site.

Looks like some people may be under the misconception that you guys are chained to your chairs and moderate all day long.

I wonder if he thinks you all get paid.

Millions of people at once? No.
Millions of different users will, during this website's life, log on? Yes.

People are too immature and irresponsible to have that kind of power. If people would be a little more mature in their thought and the way they interact on this website I could see it becoming a reality. But that is when we have Warp drive capabilities and Bungie has dominated the world.

It's a bit of a "misconception" about the amount of users vs. active users.

If I had to guess, I'd say there are about 500 active members. I remember once trying to make a list of the members I saw in one day, and I got to around 300 before giving up. And that only took half a day (and I was only focusing on a couple forums.)
