I would suggest a small button near the user's post, for the moderators, that they can just click and it will give the user an anonymous messsage warning them. It would then add up the warnings and if it reaches too many, then it would ban them.

They would need to make the reason for blacklisting very clear.

Since the moderators were chosen for their judgement, it would be fine. Also, if a moderator clicks the button for the post, then it would make an indication on the post (for the moderators) that is has been warned. This is to avoid multiple moderators warning for the same post.

P.S. This post has not been spell checked or grammatically editted. I'm leaving it as I have typed it.

I'm glad I never had a poor spelling phase...

I just searched for my first posts, and I guess I never did either. Butchered English always annoyed me. Unless english is not their first language, then I forgive them.

And, yes, I do often check for whether English is their native language.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

Except that it would be a stupid, stupid rule and 90% of Bungie.net would get banned from it.

Too true.

You can't teach a pig how to speak Chinese. Meaning the forum members can either articulate their thoughts or they can't. They either use proper grammar and spelling or they don't.

Having the ninjas enforcing some sort of quasi-grammar rule won't get back the eight years of failed english classes the person needed to get up to speed.

The only thing Bungie could do is implement a spell check. But even then, if thhe persons iss ytpiing likk thees, woodd a spel cheek evinn mattr?

What you just said, Rant, is kind of what made me make this topic, but in a different way of thinking. Because the Bungie forum is about people posting their ideas and thoughts, they should do so in such a way that it is understandable. I have seen some post in this topic, saying that they just skip over posts with poor grammar and spelling. If members were required to type inthe proper form, then those members would be able to read and discuss those ideas.

And to Sketto and the other person arguing over paragraphs, I said paragraphs were not as important as spelling and grammar. I am much more likely to read a post that is one big block then one with horrible spelling and grammar. But I do agree that paragraphs are important.

Yeah I was trying to explain that to him but he got defensive for some reason, so I dropped it. And I also share your sentiment: I can tolerate a block of text but not paragraphs that have terrible grammar and spelling.

No. My grammar is usually impeccible (I'm not one of those people only using it because that's what the thread's about), but way too many people can't spell. Bungie wouldn't be very popular. Besides, I know an eleven-year-old. It's not always the person's fault they can't spell. What if they're retards or have a low I.Q.? -_-

Besides, it makes me feel superior intelligence-wise whenever I read people's posts who likely failed English.

You can't create a rule like that because not everyone is well educated. It would acually be very rude for bungie to do something like this. I would lose respect for bungie if they were to ban someone because him/her was not able to spell or have proper grammer.

lol, but using numbers for letters, thats just weird. Plus, it takes like double the time so i don't know why people do that.

Personally I believe that it is more up to the community to promote good grammer and spelling. A good example could be The Maw where the greater portion of us have very good spelling and grammer *we do mess up from time to time. we are only human, arent we?*. Some of us are much more picky about grammer and spelling.

heres how i usually post. i rarely cap words, but i almost always spell everything right and add proper punctuation. no one complains.

BUT what is unexcusable is the following:
-thypign leik dis al teh tiem wethot gud gramer or speling es veri anoyign
-having run on sentences are very bad they just dont stop do they they are very annoying especially when they are a very very very long paragraph
-CAPING EVERY SINGLE WORD
--blam-ing every -blam-ing other -blam-ing word -blam- that -blam-'s see.
-iNVERTED CAPS LOCK. iT'S RARE TO SEE THIS. iT CAN BE A BIG PROBLEM.
-Posting help topics without providing a description.
-posting pc prolems without giving the proper specs of that computer
-trolling
-feeding trolls
-people calling other people noobs, newbs, newbies, n00bs, or any other form or version of the word newb.
-8abashingf[ishsayourdmp0 a headvmsp'9waon e9ywae the0uwa keyboard0ej u9wearandasdfap;sdmf sdf posting0983y 2hoinw weit
-1337 5p34k1ng
-anything i may have missed that is bad.

no, only thing i dont understand is why in the world do people really care? i mean some people just spell that way because they want to. and besides, its kind of asking bungie.net to baby people, that wouldnt be cool, and then bungie would probably lose, like 1 thousand people or more. some people have typos, and stuff, its normal, thats like banning them from going to the bathroom, its a normal thing that happens every now and then, and plus, you shouldnt care as long as you know what they mean, if you know what they mean then its all good, and another thing, people that do care about spelling, i have a question, are you going to baby people that cant spell, for the rest of your life? im guessing that you guys dont use slang that much either. and plus, if they cant spell something, then just say alright this is how yo really say it, you dont have to be a jerk about it. oh and some people just want to spell that way. just let them do what they want, you cant control them.

I don't baby people who don't know how to spell, I tell them to (guess which word I mean) off. And in spite of talking about grammar and such you failed to use capitals. Yes, I know I'm an ass. Get used to it.

Once again, i am only referring to the posts with a lot of errors, spelling or grammar. I don't care about the posts with a few typos, i only care about the ones that are almost impossible to read.

He watches every Hodgetwin video they put up...on ALL their channels. He calls them the Hodge Triplets, and considers himself the 3rd triplet. He's started talking and acting like them now. Every other line out of his mouth "Thaaas some BULLLLLL**** maaayne" or "Gotta make dem gainzzzz". He calls his biceps "gains". When he eats post-workout, he talks to his biceps, "Don't worry gains, I'm feeding you. Daddys gonna feed you, gainz *kisses biceps*".

The point has always been to me not HOW the words are spelled, but What they have to say. What idea is the person trying to convey? Are there times when spelling and grammar can hinder finding that out? Yes. At those times you can ask the person for clarification. Or just choose that its not worth your time. But grammar and spelling dont have to be "proper" to make the idea being expressed important.

Rant wins this topic.

I do not believe there should be a rule that requires mandatory correct spelling, however if you want anyone to take you seriously you will need to learn how to spell correctly. Often when ever I see one of those posts that uses random numbers for letters, or blatant incorrect spelling, I will initially think the person is some fool, or idiot; I might even skip over the content it self. I always run my posts through Microsoft word for a quick spell-check just incase I missed something. It takes maybe 5-10 seconds more. So there is really no excuse for not having correct spelling.

FireFox 2.0 has a built in spell checker. I don't know if they're going make it as advanced as MS Word's is, but it's useful nonetheless.

Maybe having people switch over to FireFox will reduce the number of poorly written posts?
