Quite so Robo; CS:S reminds me too much of Halo 2. Of course, if you just get the HL2 GOTY edition you'll get HL2, CS:S, HL2:D, and HL:S.
Just to reiterate ones already said; F.E.A.R. is an excellent choice. There is no F.E.A.R. 2 though; the expansion pack comes out soon enough. F.E.A.R.'s a scary FPS, and when I mean scary, I mean it makes Doom 3 look like child's play (sorry peoples, but I'm not afraid of the dark).
Civilization IV is another game to check out. It's a turn-based RTS, and I've never played a turn-based game before, and I must say, I was extremely impressed and felt like I got my money's worth. It did win GOTY, after all.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is another game to check out. Basically everyone has been anticipating it to be one of the strongest runners that will win GOTY this year. Oblivion is a complete single player RPG in an extremely immersive and gigantic world.
Last, but not least, would be Neverwinter Nights 2, which will be out on October 31st. Neverwinter Nights 2 is completely different from Oblivion in the sense that NWN tries to bring D&D rules into a 3D game and executes it wonderfully. NWN features a remarkable toolset that allows you to create your own worlds of people, scripts, stories, items, and pretty much everything else. It also has multiplayer too, something missing from Oblivion.
Of course, all of these will not come cheap nor run on most of everyone's computer. A simple way of finding out whether your computer can run them is by going to this site and selecting the game from the list; the rest will be taken care of for you:
