I just don't want anything ruined for me, that is why I am hardly in the forums. If I saw anything that ruined it for me, I would regret coming on b.net.

How about going to every noobs house and beating the -blam!- out of them for not using the right forums for posts then people would catch on and go hey i better use the right forum

That is far from helping.

Back to the topic. I think Texas Ben's idea is right on the money. If a person can be reported only once per thread that could solve the spamming problem while doing what it was meant to do. Maybe a Karma system could be set up this way also?
One problem though would be people that make enemies. If someone makes an enemy then that enemy could follow the person around the forums and spam any of the above ideas on that person's account. Another negative approach to consider. To remedy this, maybe the mods can have a list automatically kept for them on how much feedback is given from one specific user to another specific user. If the mods see any abuse in these areas then they can handle the situation appropriately.
I DO NOT believe that individual people should get a report of who is giving them positive and negative feedback because that has so many negative attributes connected to it that it could be abused and the moderators could get a LOT of complaining forumgoers acting like babies (Ex: He's not giving me good Karma points because he doesnt like me! Wahhhh! <---Babies). So let the mods keep the list and govern it appropriately.
This brings back the fact that I mentioned in another thread in the Septagon. If all these attributes are to be implemented into B.net then Archronos has to think about adding some more mods to the roster. It's the only way to add in this features and enforce them properly.

These are my ideas. Consider them if you will...

oh but my idea covers this as well... if you recall, the report generated and forwarded to the mods would not only contain the offender's name and a link to the offending post, but also the name of the reporter. that way if a mod sees a bunch of reports by one person or something, they know to be a little more cautious.

Ha ha! my idea is foolproof! but is it new mombasa proof?

I never really understood the point of a karma system... it always seemed kinda stupid to me, although a post-rating system would be great I think... y'know... rate the post on a scale of 1-10 or 1-5, only vote once... hard to spam and easy to weed out bad posts!
--
sorry if that is a karma system... I always thought of karma as rating individual users

Post-rating?

This isn't the SAT's, and it would discourage some people from posting if they get a string of lousy post rates, even though they are smarter than many others(Not sure how that would happen, but still possible). And if we weeded out the bad posts, what would the good posts be compared against? And isn't it an ego booster as well?

-I got a 10 on my post, you got a 9, you suck, I'm better.

I wouldn't leave post judging up to the members, not all of them are as smart as we'd like them to be.

So are you implying that instead of the public going around rating everyone's posts, maybe a mod could do it while he goes and takes his rounds? Naw, that wouldnt exactly be "right" for us to put on the mods' shoulders. Just another thing they would have to do.

I never said a mod had to do that, it would be too much work for them. But can we trust the public to make fair judgements on other people's posts? The level of maturity in certain forums indicates that there is still trust to be earned. Something like that.

Yeah... the post-rater was a bad idea... sorry about that. My problem is that I assume that everyone is as mature as I and everyone else here is (are?)

How about this.... It goes back with the karma system again but with a twist

I was thinking of a new idea to recreate this karma system. How about if a number of posts counter and a karma system work as an intertwined system. Here's what I mean. If someone posts a lot (we can have an average meter on how many posts a person posts a day) then they are more "protected" from the karma system if negative feedback is given. For example, if I posted an average of 35 posts per day (which we'll say is a lot) and someone gave me negative feedback then it would affect me less than if someone with 3 posts per day got negative feedback. Positive fedback would go the same way also.
Now this system could help because (and I'm taking Texas Ben's idea again) if a person that posts *a lot* and is a good poser but has some jokers going around just not caring what they give a competant poster then they could only affect that good poster's karma points a little. If this type of system wasnt enforced people would go around spamming the karma system and affecting good poster's points drastically. But including the *average posts per user/karma system* jokers wouldnt be able to go around to the many posts a person makes and affect their status drastically.
Now for the "not so involved people" on B.net they would get more drastically affected by the karma system if they were given negative feedback. Yet that they dont post very often spammers wouldnt be able to affect them much because their posts wouldnt pop up as often as a devout B.net user.

Also, this would encourage people to use thier B.net accounts more often.

P.S. - (Also taking Ben's idea) You will be only able to vote on specific person's karma once per post. Another way to prevent spamming.

That's my two cents.
