You're joking, right? You can't think of anyone who could take advantage of this? Oblivion barely squeezes onto on DVD disc; Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition has four CDs; don't even get me started on The Sims and the slew of expansion packs. F.E.A.R. came with five discs; Civ4 came with four. Do I need to continue?

Also, it's the software companies that will be all over it. Can you say Vista Premium Edition only coming on one CD? The more convient something is, the more of a want there is for it. This stuff will start firing up next year with some big hitters like Huxley and HellGate: London stepping up to the plate.

I admit that 25 gigs would be helpful for "all in one" packs for multiple expansions, but when you total up the space, those 6 CDs only add up to about 5 gigs. I just don't think you would get your money's worth. I think hard copies are going to be the future.

You know what, Im going to bookmark this thread. 2 years from now, when we start to see the way the market is going, I will eat my shoe if Blu-Ray becomes the next standard.

Blu-ray will become obsolete. As will whatever replaces it. yada yada yada. 'Endless cycle' and other gibberish. Technology evolves. Always will. One day, we'll have something the size of our thumbs that can store 100 trillion GB. And that will be replaced too.

I bought an issue of PC Magazine lately... or was it MaximumPC? Anyway, there was an article in the magazine where somebody figured out how to make a CD (or was it DVD?) hold a terabyte of memory. Or was it 500 terabytes? I don't remember, I'll have to check it out later.

I will, once I find it. Or most likely, I'll Google an article on it somewhere.

Everything will eventualy become obsoleat. Though I don't think that blu ray will become to NEXT way of transfering game information I think it's time will come. Flash memory is far cheaper and game developers will probably start using USD flash drives before blue-ray. But blu-rays time will come,, eventualy.

There was a time when it took a lot of capital to produce CDs as well; now look at us. It's called the business world; those things will start selling like hotcakes soon enough. Though I do hate Sony, I have a feeling they'll have the last laugh, because the industry is sure enough to pick up on this technology; it always was. Remember when LCD monitors were $2,000 when they first came out? Now look around; $199 at Newegg.com.

Blu-Ray is too advanced anyway. I doubt that there will be a single game on the PS3 that will take up all 25 gigs. Honestly, Blu-Ray shouldn't have been tapped until much later.

Resistance: Fall of man was 22 gigs, but now with a new compression method its around 17-18 gigs.

Holy -blam!-! Thats a huge ass game!

GB will become obselete too. :P Though it might take a while, I can't wait until my grandchildren come to me and say, "Hey gramps! My computer holds 2TB of RAM!" and it's the size of his palm.

They aren't making a multiplayer map pack, they can fit it onto the same disc as the game. Halo PC was all on one CD and it decompresses no problems. It will probably be coming out on DVD though, just because of how much more stuff there is in H2. I've also heard that the game will come with 2 discs in it. One with the actual game, one with the editing tools and software. I think they probably did it because some people can't or don't want to make maps.
I just can't wait till i don't need to deal with the Halo PC netcode.

Every single time Sony has tried to make their proprietary medium the industry standard it's failed. Betamax, UMD, minidiscs, etc. etc.

"Brue Ray" will be no different.

Right, that's why their transistor radio, Walkman, compact disc, floppy disk, Discman, Playstation, VAIO, memory stick PRO, PS, PS2, tvs, and cameras have all failed. [/sarcasm] I hate Sony, but I hate people who are blind to Sony's success even more, H2S member or not.

VHS wasn't better then Beta but VHS prevailed. It's not always the qualtity of the product that decides what standard will be accepted. Divx came out before DVD but DVD marketing saterated the market that I don't think Divx ever had a chance. That may be the deciding factor between Blu-ray and HD-DVD. I have heard more hype about Blu-ray then HD-DVD.

Alright, I found the article, it's in the October issue.

Since it's recent, I don't want to scan it. I was wrong, yes, but the disc still holds a crap load of data. A researcher at Harvard says that by coating a disc (not DVD, amazingly) with a fine layer of protein, he'll be able to hold five hundred gigabytes. But here's more, eventually, he says the protein will be able to hold fifty terabytes. Now, will you be quiet, ImSpartacus? Please stop double-posting for the love of God. :P

Hehe, your not thinking about buying one of those overpriced doorstops, are you? If you are..thats cash your quite literally, throwing into the sewers. Because Sony is headed that way in terms of the gaming industry.

Edit, I just saw this post.

Like, OMG splurge. 50TB FTW!!!!!!
I could probably put every song ever made on at least 4TB, and the rest of the disk will contain every PC game ever made, with enough space left over for the internet.
