The main thing about Halo is that the game varies so much between the grades of difficulty, that you have to find new ways of playing it!!! you just can't storm in and expect to survive, and when you do complete it on legendary you'll probably feel a real sense of acheivement. Then you'll want to do it AGAIN!! Then again HALO2 is apon us VERY NICE!!!!!

Did it a while back. At the time I was already that good that I beat over half the game in a few hours, on legendary, the first time.

It really isn't that hard, you just have to follow some basic rules:

1: If you've let the Marines get over run then don't try and help them, you'll only get shot in the back.

2: You have unlimited health in the form of a recharging shield - use it. Also, if you have an overshield then you can last a little longer in the open. Take cover from anything around you, like a wall or Warthog. If it means you having to peak around a corner and capping a few careless Grunts then do it as you're shield will not let you die, just don't peak for too long. Rember that the Elites have to recharge their shields too, so you can wear them down insted or taking them out in one go.

3: Your weapon choice is imperative and everything has it's pros and cons - having the right weapon will save your life. The pistol is a given, you practically have to carry it everywhere. Jackels, Grunts, Hunters and even Flood can be taken down in one hit with a well placed shot. It's accurate, powerful and don't forget that scope. Your secondary weapon should be chosen depending on you situation. Against Covenant, whilst going through a corridor go for either the Plasma Rifle or Plasma Pistol, thougth the Needler is useful. Personally, I'd go for the Plasma Pistol as it stuns Elites and Jackels. In open areas go for the Plasma Rifle as its more accurate. If your up against vehicles then have a Rocket Launcher handy, or close in and stick a Plasma Grenade to the sucker. Against Flood you NEED the Shotgun, in corridors mostly as you can get away with the pistol whilst in an open area. Also, unless you're either very good or very stupid - DON'T USE THE ASSULT RIFLE - EVER. Here's a level run down.

Pillar Of Autumn: Pistol and Plasma Rifle/Plasma Pistol.
Halo: Pistol and Plasma Pistol/Needler at the beginning, then Pistol and Sniper Rifle.
Truth and Reconsiliation: Sniper Rifle and Needler/Plasma Rifle, Pistol and Needler inside.
Silent Cartographer: Needler and Pistol on the beach, Pistol and Rocket Launcher inside.
Assult on the CR: Pistol and Plasma Rifle, Scorpion, Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher.
343 Guilty Spark: Pistol and Plasma Pistol, Pistol and Shotgun (If you find it) for The Flood.
The Library: Shotgun and Pistol all the way baby! GRENADES!!!!!
Two Betrayals: Plasma Pistol and Needler, Sniper Rifle and Rocket Launcher, Plamsa Rifle.
Keyes: Shotgun and Pistol/Needler/Plasma Rifle, though I would favour the Needler.
The Maw: Shotgun and Pistol/Plasma Rifle, then Shotgun + Rocket Launcher with the Hog.

These are my weapon preferences, you may favour others but they suit my tactics. Also, don't underestimate the use or Grenades. A Frag Grenade can take out a group of Jackels, Grunts or Flood quite quickly, whilst a Plasma Grenade can take down an Elite or vehicle effectively. Dont forget little tricks like Snipering Elites taking cover around an energy shiled (Like in Two Betrayals), then shooting the said shield with a Rocket. All of the Grenades the Elites dropped will explode on the Rockets impact, hopefully blowing enemies with it, saving you vital Sniper Rifle bullets.

Also peeking around corners to wear Elites down is neccessary. Remember that the Pistol is very accurate, and that both the Needler and Plasma Pistol (When charged) auto aims and tracks for you, perfect for a shoot and cover tactic. Try to see what works best against ceratin enemies, for example you need to the Pistol against Hunters and Needlers against Jackels is a stupid idea.

4: Let the Flood and Covenant fight - you won't survive a free for all with them (See point 2).

5: Never charge into a fight. Be cautious (See point 2) and assess the situation before acting (See point 3).

6: When fighting the Flood use your Radar.

7: Melees in the back kill instantly. I don't know how many times I've seen my friends try to shoot the Elites in the canteen on The Pillar of Autumn, only for them to turn around and let rip.

8: Last but not least - why am I writing this when both A) No one cares and B) You could just go to GameFAQS for a more detailed version. Oh and by the way, yes I have completed it on Legendary, many, many times...

i have done it. i didn't read all of the posts, so i don't know if this has been said, but in my opinion, when you first get aboard the t&r in t&r and the library are the hardest parts to me

Woah!!! Thanks for all the replys, I'm now on the second level, and I'm doing what you say, taking it slow and easy, taking out the little-uns with a pistol to the head, then the big-uns with grenades and machine gun. I love it!!!!!

I've beaten the game. Just know that the plasma pistol should be your primary weapon, and the pistol as your secondary in the first 5 levels. The shotgun should then be your primary in the last 5 levels, with the plasma pistol as you secondary. Take a sniper rifle or rocket launcher when you get the chance, also.

Really? I love the pistol and I'm partial to the assault rifle, but I apperently shouldn't use that.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

No use the human pistol, but don't use AR, plasma rifle is wayyy better. Also increasing the sensitivity really helps. I could never beat legendary withy it on 3, but once it turned it up and got used to it legendary was a lot easier. Pp is pretty good, but really hard on the trigger finger to use as a primary weapon.
