Hi, I'm not sure if this has been asked(probably has) but I searched and didn't get a usable answer. Anyway, when I zoom in with any weapon the scope gets very pixelated, I was wondering if anyone knows a fix to this, or if it's normal.Also, when I say pixelated that's exactly what I mean, I'm not referring to the blur that forms around the outside of the scope.I'm running a radeon 9550 SE if that helps, and yes, I have all the new drivers.For some reason when I hook my computer to the tv and play on that it's clear, so maybe it's just my monitor.

Turning my graphics lower doesn't help; I'll try to get a picture soon but I'm in the middle of watching a movie on tv...

Alright, a picture can be found here

Alright, thank you. It's not that it's too hindering, I guess I'm just not used to it yet.(new graphics card,yeah 9550 may not be that good but it's a few notches up from my old 32mb geforce...)

Antistropic filtering doesn't do anything, so like I said, I guess I'll just get used to it.

How do you enable that?

And yeah, I find it much harder and more difficult to play Halo in good graphics. There are shadows, everything around you is shiny, and of course, the outside of the sniper rifle's scope is blurrier than my bio teacher's chalkboard with a 20/50 vision.

Yes, as previously said before, that is normal and is supposed to be that way.

Alright, well thanks everyone. Ipjuunin, I'm not sure how you would do it because I don't know what card you're using, but for me I open the ATI control panel, select Antistropic filtering then select the level I want it to be set at(2x,4x,8x,16x).

Yeah, that's normal. Since Bungie didn't directly develop Halo PC, Gearbox let those sort of little things slip through. Hopefully Halo 2 Vista will be better.

1. Gearbox didn't let anything slip through; Bungie was at their side telling them what would go in and what wouldn't and helped develop many things, such as the netcode

2. It's like that on Halo Xbox. If anything it's worse on the Xbox as well, considering resolution is limited to 640x480 on the Xbox.

1. Find your Config.txt file in your Halo folder.

2. Find your video card.

Below it, put the following:

DisableAlphaRenderTargets
Break

3. Save it and play. The scope blur should be gone, but it makes specular look wierd.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

thats the problem i have its so annoying. and i cant find my video card in there

GAH! I had a link to a fix, but it broke! Damn invalidmob! Anyone got a different link?
Anyway Apoc, to find out your GPU's internal ID, you need to run the Halo movie demo. It's done by adding something to the Halo shortcut's target box. But I can't remember what, though. THAT was in the link, too. GRRRRR!!!2!![/rage]
Anyway, if you do get the movie to run, a small .txt file will be written to your Halo directory, that lists various info about your machine, including your GPU's internal ID.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

I think the problem itself is caused by the Vertex Shaders being of a lower quality. Perhaps the Vertex Shading used is only 1.1. I know that Pixel Shading in Halo 1 is v2.0 if your card supports it. Vertex Shaders deal with depth rendering, in other words, making 3D shadows look real, shading grass and yes, i think they are used in the scope vision. What it does is literally zoom the image, rather than render it further away, or closer to your target. So, the image is more zoomed, pixels will be more premenant as they become larger.

This at least is my explanation. Anyone got a better one, let me know. I think the thing you guys should be talking about is Anti Aliasing, not Ani-filtering. AF deals with textures on objects, not screen pixelation. Anti Aliasing deals with making the jagged polygon edges (due to pixels) less obvious by bluring the lines, slightly. That would help this situation immensely, however, Halo 1 PC doesn't support Anti-Aliasing, so screw that idea :P

about the config.txt thing, it shoudl look like this:

0xXXXX = "Card Name"
DisableAlphaRenderTargets
ForceShader=11

put your card's hex name in the XXXX, the card's name in "Card Name" WITH the quotes, the disable on the next line, and the ForceShader=11 is optional, it forces the game to run at 1.1 which will help performance *but disable certain things, the other number is 14*

0x7249 = "All-in-Wonder X1900"
UseAnisotropicFilter

^--- that's mine, i put in the UseAnisotropicFilter to explicitly enable it

Mind you, I have an X1600XT 512RAM PCI-E with 2GB of RAM; took the screen shot at max settings at 1280x1024 and then I resized it to 800x640. Please, explain to me the differences between his picture and mine.

Master Kim I meant in that situation when I'm zooming in, when it's unzoomed, yes, it looks better. Agamemnon, you seem to be right, both pictures are pretty close, except yours' is a bit smoother, but that's to be expected. Also, are you one of the mods from H2S?

It's only slightly better because chances are the resolution you took the picture in was lower then 1280x1024; the higher the resolution the lower the pixelation on corners and edges.

Oh, and yes, I am a mod at H2S.

yes, you're right, the resolution was 800x600. Nice site/forums by the way, all of it is so very true. I feel bad for the people who are waiting for H2V because if you really love Halo, you're going to be dissapointed when you play halo 2(im my opinion). There, that's better.

Generally not, which is why I've been following H2V extensively. Many of the site's complaints will be answered in the port simply because the absence of auto aim and smaller hitboxes will become reality, as will the absence of Optimatch (no one liked it, tbh). The adding of complete custom content is what's going to make it interesting, especially when the game will be shipping with tools that will allow us to alter every possible game value, such as spread, bullet velocity, reload time, bullet capacity, clip capacity, weight, damage, melee damage, and the possibilities are still endless. Needless to say, in the hands of some experienced modders, a team can mass produce .map files of all the maps that come with H2V and remod the campaign as well. At least, that is my project if no one else decides to take the helm.

I'd agree that it would definatly be an inprovement but even with auto aim and smaller hitboxes, there will still be issues. Potentially duel wielding will be even more powerful because aiming a BR(or whatever) will be that much harder. But my biggest beef is with the campaign anyway, so even if the multiplayer is improved I probably still couldn't appreciate it. This is kinda off topic though so we should wrap this up, but by all means if you feel H2V will be good....then buy it!
