Believe it or not, Halo is far from perfect. Many may think it has no flaws, but it does, and some of them are very obvious. Now, granted, Halo may not be perfect, nothing ever will be, but that doesn't mean it's not good. Halo is an extraordinary game, and is closer to perfect than most games will ever be.
Halo has the most complex plot I've ever seen. Granted, Marathon's was pretty intense, but not quite as deep as Halo's. Halo went more into the government and conditions of the UNSC, and they're intense struggle with rebel insurrections, and the Covenant later on. Marathon had its UESG, but they never went all that far into it. Yes, they had some background, but it wasn't as much as Halo. The CRISTs, the Mars massacre, etc., those were just a few instances of Marathon's story, but Halo had far more. In Halo, the UNSC was a completely different world working at the same time, with all the different components working inside it, Halsey's SPARTAN-II project, The UESC marines, the ODST's Ackerson's SPARTAN-III's, ONI, ONI Section 3 and so on. Marathon never really went that far.
Yes, Marathon had a good plot, but it wasn't as complex and well-tuned as Halo's. I think Marathon aimed at being more cryptic than anything else with its plot.
Halo also had other great aspects. Such as the graphics, I'm not even going in there, I'll be typing for five hours.
