Heyyo,
Heh, that's no supercomputer dude, that's aboot an average budget computer nowadays. Me bud has a "higher than budget" computer cause he's a computer animator, and he's got this:
AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (still only clocked at default Hz I believe)
1gig of Generic PC3200 RAM (it's cheap ram, but plentiful)
Asus Nforce2 motherboard
ATI Radeon 9800 PRO
And he uses his intergrated soundcard. That's a pretty buffed comp. He can run Far Cry full settings and the game usually doesn't drop below 40F/S. Sure, with a comp like mine you can't crank the rez n' advanced graphics settings, but at least I get a pretty nice looking game, and since I'mma budget gamer, I'm only concerend for a smooth gameplay with decent graphics. My current PC can pull that off.
Although yes, Gearbox should've done a better job, I'm stillsatisfied by my overall preformance with HaloPC. On the timedemo with my current settings (only shadows n' specular are off) I can get a nice framerate of 38.45F/S. That's a pretty good framerate. Just as long as it doesn't studder too much on these new games, I probably won't upgrade my comp in the next while.
[EDIT]
Oh, btw, if you think Halo has bad netcode, obviously you guys don't play Online gameplay enough. Far Cry is now known for its horrible netcode. At least on HaloPC it's easy to learn to lead your shots. On Far Cry? even if you lead you're still -blam!-. Like, me bud was knifing someone, the guy got behind him, and somehow, me bud killed that guy... swinging the knife infront of himself... killing the guy behind him. Now, tell me, does Far Cry have a worse netcode that HaloPC? yes, so just learn to cope with HaloPC cause there's worse out there.
