Ok, so I was thinking one day that here at B.net, we should have better profiles than the ones we have now. If you look at the profiles now, they are just so plain showing you minimal stuff like games played and the join date. We should spice things up a little bit. Maybe add a place to put your interests, dislikes, etc., or even a friends list (separate from XBL if your GT is connected). I'm not trying to make B.net like a Myspace, but just add some things to make the profiles more interesting. It would be great if you could reply back Achronos.

The Joyeuse IP Formula

That would be a good idea. But we get a lot of stuff coming in already. Think about the Bandwidth or whatever it is.

I think it would be cool if we could design our own Spartan and have it be like a profile in Halo 2. Then make an emblem just like Halo 2, to sort of customize it.

But that is too much to ask.

Heh, I didn't recognize you at first with that avatar.. >_>

However, I don't think adding some more profile info would require any more bandwidth than now. It's just a few hundred characters of text. It wouldn't affect anything negatively, bandwidth-wise..

However, that brings me to my next point.. Do we really need it all? Sure, I'd love to have it, but it's more space for people to write abusive things in. Yes, I know that's the worst case scenario (besides Godzilla tearing down Bungie Studios in search of cookies, because that's what Achronos eats while coding.. I think.) but it is likely.. Of course, on these forums, the good outweighs the bad, so I vote YES.

If I've ever clicked any member's screen name, it was either because:

A) I wanted to know if the person had linked their gamertag (helps when answering about the Bungie.net symbol).

B) I wanted to know how long the member had been on Bungie.net (or at least the account).

C) I wanted to send the member a PM.

D) It was an accident.

I've practically never viewed anything on other member's profiles, and for some reason I don't think I am the exception. If a person wants to know more about me, that person should ask me. Frankly, if a person were snooping around my profile to learn my likes and dislikes, I would be a little creeped out...

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Yeah... it's not like anyone looks at member profiles for anything good. They're boring little things that don't really matter XD... I'd take new profiles any day... but I'd rather have new avatars and The New Hawtness V2...

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -

But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

You have no idea how tempted I am right now to click on your profile to see what I can find.

Anyways, I don't think it's a bad idea. True, many people don't look at the profiles now, probably, but that might change if there was actually a reason to do so. And it might just help with the idea going around of making accounts a bit more personal. I don't think that it would require much more space, if it were only more room for text. The bigger issue would be the coding changes. I have no idea about what that would take.

Also, you could always leave it blank if you didn't want to use it.

Alright, now I can get to snooping around Mabian profile. ;)

Maybe add something like consoles owned or years as a gamer. Minor video game related details.

I think it would be cool if they did it like Rooster Teeth (AKA the people who made Red VS Blue). On their website, your account is like your own website. You can put in interests, favorite TV shows, movies, music, etc. You can even run your own blog on their website. That would be nice, and it would eliminate (for the most part) the threads locked for "Bungie is not your personal blog".

Maybe just some more space or categories under the profiles.

As I said before, who is really so interested in me that they want to know as much as they can about me? Hopefully no one. If no one cared before that you could tell what the other person's taste in games are (which could, theoretically tell enough about the person if you were willing to investigate), why would they care now that they can find out what that person likes and dislikes?

Of course, you might be tempted to say that friends would use it to learn more about one another. But friends can learn about one another now, and usually do, with a healthy dose of conversation.

And I think the "making accounts more personal" wish is one that is based more on changing the account in two ways:

1) Making it more personal, which this would do.

2) Making it a "one-time deal."

The wish dictates that both should occur, though I think the second point is supposed to be more important than the first. Since people would still be able to make extra accounts with which to spam, it doesn't happen to fix any problems we have.

In the end, all you get are more things that few people care about and that remove the friendship capability among members (since now you're getting to know the person by a few lines that person wrote months ago as compared to trying to get to know the person through conversation).

It would be a cool idea, but it would slow down alot of database driven pages, I would think.

Well...I'm not really suggesting that the B.net profiles will be like a Myspace profile...just improve it.

I do have to admit even though I don't care all that much about whats in my profile it does need more stuff like an about me or something like that. Those always look good in profiles.

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

This is Bungie.net, not MySpace. I hardly ever look at member's profiles.

Good to see at least somebody takes this place seriously

I am sincerely disappointed in everyone except JIMH. JIMH, have a gold star.

',:\ IF YA SAHMELLLL

I like the clean, plain look of Bungie.net. I would like to have maybe a section for your interests or something like that, but too much stuff would clutter up the pages.

I KNOW THAT! I'm not trying to suggest an idea that B.net profiles will be like a Myspace profile; just make things better.
