Poll: H2 Hunters or H:CE Hunters?  [closed]

Well, I saw the Jackal thread and someone said something asbout hunters which I disagreed with, so I decided to make a poll.

So, for the sake of redundancy, which is better? The H2 Hunters, or the H:CE hunters?

I like the ones in the second game better, they're more of a threat, they're bigger, and their gun is unique.

Halo 2 Hunters are better AI with better melee's. The first generation had a ranged attack, which was nice. The Halo 2, however, have a stronger fuel rod that is medium to long range. And if your behind them, they can attack from behind by swinging their shield arm, where the first generation couldn't do anything but turn around.

Elaborate. Define "better".

I think the original Hunters were far more menacing than their successors, and their Fuel Rod Cannons in some respects did more damage, but their maneuverability and melee attacks were limited.

The Halo 2 Hunters weren't quite as fearsome as their predecessors, but their melee attacks were far more useful and powerful, such as the ability to swing backwards. In the original Halo, the Hunter had to turn 180º in order to hit you while you were behind it. But, the cannons on their arms weren't quite as devastating as the original ones.

Halo Combat Evolved all the way. Hunters were a pain to kill, unless you had a pistol, sniper, or rocket. Their ranged attack (especially in lengendary) will turn your green armour black and will frustrate you many, many times. H2 hunters are tough, especially on legendary, but believe it or not, H2's hunters give you a chance to win, especially with their downgraded laser variant of a fuel rod gun.

Halo CE Hunters.

Is it just me or does the Hunter in Halo 2 have extra melee range beyond their physical reach? It may appear you're out of range of their swing but they have a tendency to hit even though it looks as if they clearly missed. There was, for me at least, not a lot of ways to deal with Hunters in Halo 2 besides ranged attacks at their orange spot. Going toe to toe with them was suicide and just plain frustrating. I missed how you could melee the Hunters in Halo CE to death if you dodged their swings sort of like a matador. You could spray them with the AR or use the plasma pistol, ram them with a Warthog, Ghost, lure them off a cliff, etc. There wasn't enough opportunities in Halo 2 to play around with the Hunters IMO.

Halo:CE.

The hunters felt like metal when you hit them and there was proper collision detection on the weakspots.
In Halo 2 I sniped hunters into the exposed part of the neck, and they did not die.
In the original all shots that did infinite damage to weak spots (sniper, Pistol) took out a Hunter if you hit any orange patch on their body, not just the one on the back.

Granted the Halo 2 Hunters are more powerfull Melee wise, but their new guns are a joke.
The beams don't even explode on impact, which automaticly makes them less threatening than the real "Fuel Rods".
Is it even possible to melee a Hunter to death in H2?
If you reduce the ways to kill an opponent, you take freedom away from the player.

A mix of both. The Gun from the origenal was better but the Hunters of H2 were stronger and better defensively.

Halo: CE Hunters without a doubt. I actually feared going against hunters in that (at first obviously) but the Halo 2 hunters were a huge let down.

I was expecting stronger, faster hunters that were much more fun to go against but they werent any more fun. You usually had a sniper to deal with them + it is easier to snipe their weak part so they were a lot easier. Even with the added melee attacks they wernt any more fearsome, they just surprised you at first.

I think one of the main reasons that i think the Halo: CE hunters were better i beacause of the places they were used in. If they were deployed on their own in Halo: CE they were in tight spaces with not much manuvering room or open areas where Feul Rod guns could rip you apart. It was also when they were cleaverly deployed with other troops they were very deadly.

In Halo 2 they were either out in the open when you had a sniper, just walking (shields not covering flesh) or other stupid positions. The only time they pose a threat is on Heroic (or legendary) on Regret when you are underwater and that is only because of the other troops like the deadly Jackal Sniper (takes out whole shield) Honor Guards (with swords) and tons and tons of buggers.

So my vote goes to Halo: CE Hunters.

The Halo 2 gun was unique but not as threatening when you're moving unless on heroic or legendary.
The Halo 2 hunters themseleves seemed to be stronger and more of a challenge. In halo CE after going thorugh it loads it became tooo easy to just shoot them in the back with a pistol when they charged at you.
Also as another post in the forum says we do need hunters deployed in larger areas but then the guns would only work if they were the old ones that exploded on impact.

the Halo1 hunters. in halo 1 they seemed more dangerous. there weapon was more effective, their melees killed you in any difficult level, and they came after you. halo2's were a little larger and more manuverable, but ultimately easier kills.

The H2 hunters are def. stronger, in H1 all you had to do was pop 'em once in the orange.

I really like the H2 size and AI but I HATE those H2 hunter fuel rod cannons. They are more like fuel rod beams.

(by the way, I made the jackal poll)

Maybe if they made it possible (but tedious) to beat down the H2 hunter and gave it a real, more powerful, fuel rod gun then they would be better. I was always more afraid of the H2 hunters because they were harder to deal with, you always had to watch where you stood when getting in close.

Hunters work in pairs so how about the ability for them to switch between firing their guns as a beam (halo 2) or grenade like shot (halo ce).
That way you mayhave to face one hunter firring a beam weapon at you while the other fires the explosive round, creating more of a challenge. Bungie will probably design some new gun for the hunters anyway.

I much refer the Halo 2 "beams", not as explosive as in the first ones plus they make a sound so you know they are coming.

i still say the halo1 hunters were more dangerous though. the halo2 hunters die just as easy, one shot high caliber to the back and it's over. you got to remember the pistol was the kill-all in halo1. in halo2 you can just snipe them in the orange, or stick a shotty in there and squeeze the trigger before the hunter does his back swing.

In Halo 2 they looked "bigger", but in Halo CE were more dangerous and fearsome, and looked "better".

  • 11.05.2006 9:02 AM PDT

The stare they'd give you in Halo: CE from the narrow split in their fortified cranium, right before their started to glow and climb until you had just seconds to evade its menacing blast and get in close enough to avoid a second shot, all while under the lurking threat of a second hunter knocking you down from the side was sheerly excilirating. A much worthier foe than their larger Halo 2 counterparts, who tend to walk into the scene, looking around dopily, barely managing to move in the cramp environments, spraying their guns around in the slim hope they might take off more than half your shields, then despiratly swinging in every direction, taking every shot the nimble master chief has straight to the back.
The one thing I do like about the new hunters is their durability, not falling to a single easily made shot, and that you can jump over them without being hurled away by a melee that's nowhere near you. Other than that, they're turned a heavily armed and adgile warrior into a gigantic squelchy target.

now that I think about it... Halo 2 hunters are probably one of a very few things I actually like about Halo 2
