Ya, I was talking to a friend, and after I showed him an alpha test of the spiker tags, he thought it be cool if I made the shotgun fire the buckshot, as well as inacurate slugs.

It can be done pretty easily, where the normal ammo you load could be used to fire buckshot or slugs. Click the right left button to fire buckshot as normal, hold it to fire an inacurate but powerfull slug. opinions? concerns?

I don't think the shotgun shoots buckshot. There are too many projectiles for that unless its a magnum. Anyway, I would think the marines would use slugs, so I voted yes.

The shotgun in Halo is an 8 Gauge Magnum. 8 Gauge is the generally the largest gauge availabe for a commercially available shotgun. Puntguns and some rare weapons use 1-1/2 - 4 gauge shells.

Shotguns aren't designed to fire one large slug but rather a coompressable mass of shot. Most shotgun bores aren't cylindrical in diameter. The chamber is slightly larger to accomodate the shotshell walls. with a forcing cone to compress the shot into the bore of the gun.

I think that Bungie got the shotgun right the first time. Slugs are too inacurate for combat. They're fine for hunting because deer don't shoot back.

Fine as is. Slugs and such are too inaccurate for combat.

Not likely to happen. People need to stop thinking that Bungie will change so many things in the port from the Xbox to PC. It's a port, they're not remaking an entire game.

Nah. Like people said, slugs are too inacurate for combat, and I think it would be impractical, you would have to carry less ammo to make room for the slugs.

1: How accurate would this buckshot be? If it's dead center it'd be a more powerful sniper weapon than the sniper rifle.

2: I dislike the idea of dropping the ability to throw grenades in favour of switchable weapon types.

It would be pretty inacurate, it would be pretty much only effective for close range targets, or for medium range vehicles. You wouldn't loose the capability of grenades, you would hold the trigger to fire a slug.

I remember seeing pictures of duck hunters using punt guns. Those things would kill 5 or 6 ducks at a time. However, you did miss a few points.

"The shotgun in Halo is an 8 gauge magnum"

10, 8, 6, and under are commonly called magnums whether they are or not. I meant a 3 1/2 or 4 inch magnum. If you don't know what that is, it is just the same thing except the shell is longer to allow more powder.

"Shotguns shoot either many shot or a single lead slug" That is supposed to be the first thing you learn about a shotgun other than how to shoot it. A slug, unlike shot, doesn't need a wad so it can sit directly on the powder, and that leaves room for more powder. The extra powder increases the effective rang of the slug to 75-100 yards, depending on the gauge. A slug is much more powerful and accurate than shot.

"I think Bungie got it right the first time, slugs are much to inaccurate for combat. They are fine for deer hunting because deer don't shoot back" Slugs are already used in combat here in reality. Deer, on the other hand, move, run, jump, "hide" in brush and otherwise avoid you. In order to use a shotgun, you either have to be very close or have slugs. If you use slugs, you should be able to repeatedly hit a half dollar at 50 yards. Thats what you will be aiming at anyway.

EDIT: wow, long post

Nice. I vote slugs @ short range. But as a new shotty, not fired from the same one.

That would be a good idea. If you accept that idea and want to make new models, maybe you could make one of them a riot shotgun.

Short barrel, stock-less. Like a bigass flare gun.

There was no diffrence that I could determine between the Halo 1 - 2 shotguns

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

Except the H2 shotgun couldn't kill a kitten from more than 12 feet away...

Do you know why? Scale! The scale is alful! No shotgun that size could spread that much.

Lolz!! So true...

The slug would be neat as a mod but not from Bungie.

Rusty doesn't lie. In fact, Halo 2's shotgun couldn't touch a kitten from more than four feet away. And I need to kill lots of kittens, so the shotgun would be the last thing I'd use.

Since when is there a "Hard" difficulty? :)

Are you talking about the Flood? Did you notice that they were about three feet away from you before they pulled the trigger on the shotgun?

Uh isn't there a difficulty between Normal and Legendary? The shotgun was actually the least changed weapon from Halo 1 IMO.
