For all those people out there playing Halo, and awaiting Halo 2, who have never played any other Bungie games... I ask you why not?

Why don't you dig up Myth, or Oni? Hell, theres a sticky devoted to downloading Marathon, the greatest game of all time... Bungie has made more than just Halo, and in a lot of ways has done better than Halo... But don't take my word for it, PLAY THEM!!!

Tristan ;-)

Most of the Halo fanatics here probably wouldn't find them interesting though. Myth of course is an RTS(which I love by the way), and is very different from an FPS. I can't say anything about Oni, because I haven't played it.

Now, we come to Marathon. I let my friend play Marathon, and he told me why he didn't like it(I haven't spoken to him since), but he said that Marathon wasn't fast-paced enough. Also, that the graphics were old, and he didn't want to have to stop at terminals to read things.

I have come to this conclusion. Halo fanatics who are new to Bungie, are usually so jaded by the times that playing anything that is "old" to them seems tedious. They are so used to cutscenes and Cortana telling them what to do, and all the huge Covenant battles, that they can't play Marathon. It's really sad.

I don't understand the fast paced quip. Compared to Marathon's protagonist, Master Chief CRAWLS. But most of these (12 year old - wasn't it Gaara?) Halo fans, weren't brought UP playing those games. Force them to play Wolfenstein 3-D for a few hours, then Doom, then make them play Marathon.

Newfound respect.

I've played marathon... but its been a while... i thought Myth was a first person slow (or actually no) paced puzzle game... not an RTS (RTS is like warcraft and starcraft...) and i dont play marathon now because i dont feel like downloading aleph 1 or whatever its called... ill stick to playing doom for now...

Which means halo2 may indeed be a huge letdown for them... while I doubt that there will be terminals, I think that the action will be much more marathon-like, and legendary will be much more like total carnage in marathon (heh... even ten years later I still can't get past G4 sunbathing lol. Don't tell anyone). but anyway, from what I've seen/heard Halo2 seems a return to tradition for bungie, unlike halo which was a big departure from the Marathon series...

I hope so. I think that will make it all the more fun.

When I came here I didn't even know marathon existed and when I found out it did I thought that halo must be many times better than marathon until I played it. It is a extremely good game that everyone should at least try to play. To me the graphics don't matter as much as gameplay or story.

I think the idea of reading so much in a game throws people off.

As for Myth.... the RTT (not rts =- P ) I don't see what's to not like about that game.

The explosions, stories, massive battles, strategy, complete camera control, sound,

And then you get online...people, co-op, plugins, clans, ranks,

Everyone who is a Halo fan should at least give Marathon a shot.
If you're really into graphics and can't stomach the 2d sprites, then
read the Marathon Story page. I read every terminal on the site
and was immersed in the Marathon story more than most games
that I've played. . . before I ever played the game!!!

The story is that good, no kidding.

SB-117

I tried Myth ages ago and it was great. It was a friends game and we played it all day until we couldn't complete a level (memory fuzzy but couldnt get past some area that kind of resembles the tunnel entry area in silent cartographer) Anyway Myth was one of the best games I've played and the only RTS I really liked. It was simple but allowed you to do so many things and different stategies (if memory serves right)

I downloaded Marathon and I loved playing it, it was great but I often got lost and confused as to what I should do. Which is why I prefer Halo, its really linear and action-oriented. I read all of the mission screens I could find but it was difficult for the story to sink in for me.

I remember playing Sonic games and Mario games (obviously not bungie games lol) constantly but the remakes of them nowadays don't seem to keep me drawn in as much as they did back then. They were great but recent games tend to offer more in my opinion. Halo may be great now but in the future games will be "easier" to play.

Basically my point is, try Pong now, it's rather boring...

It seems I have one again turned up late to the party (damm you timezones! * shakes fist*).

RC54:
it is possible to redo the spites for Aleph One, if someone was skilled at photoshop. Even better, Aleph One has had 3d model support for quite some time now.

MJOLNIRdragoon:
Are you confusing Myth with Myst (the puzzle game from cyan)? Aleph One is an easy download, and it's worth it.

Texas Ben:
I'm slowly playing through M1A1 on Total Carnage, g4 sunbathing was hard!! I got there in the end, but it took a while. I am stuck on the last section of niether high nor low. I might have to resort to using the rocket launcher. I hope that H2 is a return to the marathon style story goodness...

egomie:
Sing out if you ever need help on a level, I am sure there are countless people here who will be happy to give you some guidence.

I agree and disagree, first off Ender, you shouldnt be talking about the "good old days" you havent even been a member for over a year (yes obviously I havent either), I played halo, great game, and in between halo1 and the wait for halo2 i decided to play m1, beat it, thought it was great, m2 was also a great game, so you are incorrect, I enjoyed it alot and I was first introduced to bungie with halo (though I knew of them before from oni, I never played the game).
However I do agree that video games in general are promoting ADD and unsatisfaction amongst gamers these days, I meet more and more people who arnt satisfied anymore with the important things, and cant even enjoy reading anymore. People actially complain about 20 second load times and its pathetic. It will be interesting how gaming companies will satisfy gamers into the future, because people are getting bored too easily these days.

Marathon is an amazing game, and any Bungie 'fan' who has not played it should
1. Slap themselves.
2. Go download Marathon and Marathon 2 immediatly.

Ach! Was ist los?

Actually, the date you joined B.net is irrelevant, since B.net is a very recent addition to the Bungie community. Many people here were part of the community back when Bungie didn't have a website at all.
