Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

I have my PC shipping to me, it should be here tuesday.

$999
2GB DDR2 SDRAM
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2 GHz
300GB Harddrive
Windows Media Center 2005 w/ SP2
19'' Flatpanel LCD Monitor

The GPU is integrated. I'm upgrading the GPU asap. The PSU is only a 330W PSU.

I'm thinking of either a:
7900GT for $230
7900GS for $199
7600GT XXX for $139

I need a good PSU to power all this too, 330 will not do. I was thinking more along the lines of this Coolmaster 600W PSU for $80.

Think this would be a good rig for Halo PC and Halo 2 Vista (and how aboutCrysis or FEAR?)? One more question: Are all PSU's identical in size and shape? I won't have to open my case and somehow measure mine...right?

Logically, the bigger the PSU, the better it is. They're not all identical in size.

F.E.A.R. would run beautifully on your PC. It would be overkill for even system whore Halo PC. It would run decently on Halo 2 Vista and Crysis, which brings me to my next point - your system will become obsolete once DX10 comes out.

It's promising. Hopefully this will get you farther away from console gaming and more into PC gaming, Cheehwawa. You'll certainly think PCs are better if you haven't already once you see how much horsepower computers can give for gaming.

For 999, I would expect a decent card in it, but the mobo is pretty nice.

Yeah, I looooooove PC gaming, but this will be my first PC that will be good for gaming. The two comps in my house now (Desktop and Laptop) have a quarter gig and three quarters of a gig (respectively) and Pentium 4 processors....games look horrible on these things, lol.

K, I've never installed a PSU so I didn't know if there was a slot it had to fit in perfectly or something. PSUs plug into a PCI slot, right? I only have one PCIe slot available, that's for my new Vid card..Posted by: darekster2ongame

I suggest an x1950pro. For 200 bucks, you get better performance than anything nvidia has to offer in that range.

Lowest price for an ATI is an x1900GT and that's $240...which is better? A x1900GT or a 7900GT?

PSUs can vary in size, but that's generally not an issue. That looks good, but what I would recommend is looking up PSUs on Newegg, and reading the reviews to decide upon what to get. Also make sure you've got adequate cooling and such. My fans are sufficient, but they have to run extra loud, as does my heatsink, all of which I need to upgrade sometime.

As for vid cards,
They're both pretty good, really depends on if they're manually overclocked/if you plan to overclock, cooling, compatibility, etc.

Don't go overboard with the GPU, man, wait for the DX10 l33tness. Upgrade, yes. $200+, no. And I'm fairly certain that a PSU will not plug into a PCI slot. I'd take a picture of mine, but I don't have a digital camera or scanner.

I don't think I will get a DX10 card until I get Vista in like 6 months...so I will spend under $310 on a Graphics card and PSU in a bit. I want a 7900GT or something equivalent so I can play Crysis at near high quality.

I'm running a similar system on a 300w psu, you're okay for now. Just get a 7600gt and upgrade when Dx10 comes out.

First off, since you have an AMD processor, I recommend getting an ATI card alone for that reason; everyone should know by now that they're both working together and I wouldn't be surprised if future driver upgrades would benifit from you having an AMD proc. Second, if you're looking for a good PSU for $100, I suggest this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681714802 2

I ordered this off of Newegg and yes, the first one did come DOA, but I sent it back and they sent me another one free of charge of anything, including shipping, and that one worked. The only complaint is that the screws don't align with the case, but some electric tape fixed that. The thing is a beast; it makes mincemeat of Oblivion on max resolution. That is, if your monitor can handle it. Be sure that that 19" monitor can support higher then a 70Hz refresh rate or you'll see verticle tearing in even the most simpliest games.
