A flagging system. Right next to the Bookmark and New Thread buttons there should be a Flag button that pops up a dialogue box, saying "Do you really wish to flag this topic"? Then you would automatically go to this form having one question. "What is this thread doing to make it in violation of Bungie's TOS?" Then a scroll saying options, like "Off topic posting", "Flaming", "Aimed at a single user", etc. Then a PM would be automatically sent to all online Moderators saying for example...

Subject: Flag

User has accused This Thread of being whatever the violation is.

Obviously this could be violated, so you would have to put some kind of limit, like if someone sends say... 3 incorrect flags it would be worth your privilages of flagging, and the flag button would disappear, or a blacklist.

Please leave your feedback on this idea.

EDIT: This should also be beside the MSG, and Reply buttons so that you can report individual posts, so the moderators don't have to search through every thread to find individual off topic replies, becuase, as they have made clear time and time again, they have their own lives and can't search through every thread to find every piece of against Bungie's TOS.

I like the idea of someone losing their flagging privileges if they screw around with it too much, but wouldn't all these PM's clog up the mod's inboxes? Perhaps it would be best for the system to only send PM's to those mods signed in to the site.

Just because it's satisfactory doesn't mean it can't be improved.

Way to contradict yourself.

The pm system has its flaws. You have to individually pm each mod and you don't even know if they are on or not. And since they aren't going to give out the names of the mods on or off-line, sometimes yuo send out 5 or even 10 pms and noone gets it in time.

bnetmods@gmail.com I think it is.

I suppose you could always, like, just wait until a moderator comes along to sweep the trash under the Bungie living room rug. Just ignore it, like those chores your mom told you to do.

OK, just quoting that, is kind of like a vote, but not really a discussion. Usual course of action is discussion first, decision second, at least in an ideal world.

No necessarily. In an ideal world everything would be perfect. We would need no mods, we wouldn't need to lock a thread, people wouldn't even be blacklsited. That is an ideal world. I fealt that the discussion was summed up by that one sentence. So I quoted it, if you do not find that being logical, well. To put it bluntly, and excuse me if this sounds rude, but that is your problem, but certainly not mine.

Why not limit yourself to three flags a day? Correct or incorrect. Make everyone limited to three flags a day. If someone does abuse it and uses their 3 to be jerks, they could get blacklisted.

Imagine this. As you said, it's sent to all moderators when it happens. But what if a really fast moderator is like BAM BAM DONE and then another moderator who was away from the computer for a minute or so comes, there's nothing there, and he then punishes the user for submitting a false form.

That could be easily fixed, I just like pointing out flaws in people's ideas. :P

Well if you were to come across an already locked thread G_P, wouldn't you figure that one of your fellow boys in white had got to the thread and that it was a valid message, someone just got to it before you? If it was deleted then you'd also think the same?

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I like this idea. It would work well if there was a group messaging option. And only if it sent those messages to HCFS or whatever its called. I know b.netmods@gmail.com works the same way, but we wouldn't have to go offsite if the above was enacted. There's a lot or room for abuse, but that eventuality already exists in every other aspect of any and every site imaginable. There will just have to be consequences (like everyone mentioned above) for those who cannot handle this potential function.
I'm sure that there's quite a lot more to this idea, but I'm too narrow minded to think of it right now. I'll look forward to reading the rest of the community's take on Duffman's idea.

I think Achronos was exploring this idea some months ago when the search was implemented.

I don't know what will become of it but rest assured in the knowledge it has been brought to his attention.

I mean if like someone flags a topic because there's a flame war in it between two members, and then they're both blacklisted. No evidence is left.

good point TGP.

I dont know how often that situation arises though. In your situation i think it would be obvious alot fewer posts are on the page than 25 though.

I like this idea, and came to the septagon to post a thread about this today, and found this. :-(
you beat me to it.

Maybe the "flags" could be deleted after a mod has done their business. Maybe they could delete the "flag" manually or implement an auto delete. Just a thought.

The best of the Best

I say no, this is a bad idea. EVERY single post would be flagged for people who don't agree with it. The mods already have a hard enough job, no need to make it harder.

That's why I say if people abuse this system they lose the privilege of having the Flag button on their account.

Well what if the mod decides to block him after an "x" amount of false reports?

YAY problem fixed!
