Pwnt, plain and simple.
Note that blender is open source, blame them. Gmax is slightly better seeing that it is a stripped down 3ds Max.
Well, I really don't know what they meant with good TBH.
Just about every single modeler has a steep learning curve.
The only intuitive interfaces are to be found in modeling packages which cost over $1000, far too expernsive for the average gamer.
No, I'm saying that Bungie should not have to create a new tool when they have perfectly fine tools right there.
Uh, I'm not tsaying that they should create a new tool, just modify their current tool to make map creation easier for their fans.
Plain and simple.
I still would have to go through a large list of crappy maps to get to any good ones according to what you say. Even after I download a map, it does not guarentee that I will have a good map. Creating your own map should not be a walk in a park IMO. It should take planning, some skill, and knowledge. Heres my question for you, have you created a map for Halo CE?
Creating a map can vary in difficulty, depending on your decisions. Some poeple put almost no effort into planning.
The question is, once you've planned out your map how hard is it to implement (create) it..
The problem with using a seprate modelr to create geometry is that you have no idea what the relative scale will be. Map making is inherently a trail and error process. But, with the need to go back and forth between two programs, it will just take alot longer than it should.
If they make us use two tools in conjunction, map making wil become even more diffuclt, which will increase the number of crappy maps.
There's a difference between accesability and difficulty. Even if they had one tool for map making, it would still take skill.
As stated earlier, why recreate tools that they already have? *Why fix somethng that is not broken?* I can create a map on free tools *excluding the price for halo pc*. I can use Gmax with the exporter from either Chimp 1.6 or Project Bluestreak, Make textures from Gimp 2, import with tool, radiosity with either tool or sapien, populate with sapien, compile with tool, play with halo ce. I see nothing hard with that.
Do you realize how many programs that takes?
With the World Editor for FEAR, you can do all that. Do you have any clue how much time that saves? Sure, using program x, program y, program z, and program m in conjunction isn't impossible, it just takes a crap load of time.
And what weapons should they create? They can't exactly put them into the old maps without breaking them. Sure they can make new weapons for any new maps they could create if they want... but we can also make our own weapons for our own maps too. They don't have to make new weapons if they don't wan't to. Remember, this isn't Halo 2.5.
That's up tthem to decide. A new human weapon, possibly an automatic? Some mysterious, intersting covenent weapon?
Putting new weapons onto maps wouldn't break them becasue everyone would have acess to that weapon.
Oh, and on the contrary they have been calling it exactly that, Halo 2.5. Read the sprint 7 update, dude.
What I was saying is that they could have a list of uploaded maps that you can download, just like halomaps.org. Yes, also there will be 3rd party download sites just like that site I named.
Sure. And users could rate maps. Other users could filter out maps, rated lower than, say, 5.
..Meaning maps made by beginners wouldn't get in the way of you or anyone else finding the good stuff.
