Disappointing is all I can say.

I can't say it wasn't unexpected though.

I dont mean it in an interactive way, but rather scenic. I mean it as a form of scenery.

2041 in Backwash?

I'm almost positive AI already syncs, I'm not too sure on that though.

And yes, this does make me quite didssapointed, I was looking forward to making some mini sidestories to the Halo universe, and now it looks like that will not be possible. Tell me it wouldn't be interesting playing through the parts of Mombasa you did not see, but also playing through the perspective of an ODST?

The few, the proud, the leet.

Is 2041 in Backwash an AI or device? I always assumed he was a device since he doesn't show up on your radar.

Does anyone know how I am supposed to contact a Bungie employee. Or all of them, for that matter.

Hey, I dont know if anyone has picked up on it yet, but along with this thread, you can copy the thing in my signature to show that you want SP and UI support in the H2EK. Spread the word! Bring followers!! Become stronger!!!

C'mon Bungie. I have never, ever complained about anything to do with the Halo series on this forum, but the news in the recent update his really saddened me. The discovery of the ability to create SP campaigns in the Halo 1 HEK has extended the lifetime of the game and may even have added new players into the community. Even if you leave the option in the HEK and don't document it, we would be eternally grateful - we figured out how to do it without documentation this time around. Just please don't remove all of the SP functionality in the HEK!

this is ridiculous, You've touched what didn't need to be touched. Take out the autoaim, controllers, are for FREAKING XBOX. THATS WHAT HALO 2 XBOX IS FOR. If people want to play with no skill, with a sucky crappy controller, thats fine, thats why Halo 2 xbox exists. Pc games, are for freaking mouse and keyboard. If people want to use controllers, thats fine, but those people are teh -blam!- minority. Auto aim + mouse = total fail. If we have to pay to play online, no one will buy this. Do you really wan't your precious game to go down in history as the biggest PC game failure ever?

Fix what youve broken. Add teh missing stuff that you took out of the HEK, there is no danger. I dont ever EVER want too see autoaim in Halo 2 vista. Don't enable dialup support. If people can buy the Vista OS, the game, plus the upgrade of hardware, they can afford freaking broadband. And for the last -blam!- time, leave ur pissweak noobed autoaim for the controllers. Make it detect when a person has a controller input, if this isn't possible, -blam!- the controllers off. Honestly, controllers are a console thing. I don't care abotu the great debates about "is mouse better thatn joystick" answer is no. N O! Mouse is much more precise, faster movement capabilitys, easier access to buttons, rather than having to switch ur thumb back and forth. So stfu anyone who says mouse and keyboard are"just as good as controllers" cuz ur a -blam!- noob.

I hate whoever decided to remove -blam!- from the HEK. Whoever did that, just ruined this modding community.

Think of it this way.

When people (pc gamers) are thinking of purchasing HAlo 2 Vista, they have to consider this:

New Operating system

new graphcis card, possibly

the actual game itself

and possibly even to pay to play online

=

"-blam!- this, im going to go buy Crysis"

fix it now, or forever see these titles:

IGN: Halo 2 Vista is a flop

Gamespot: Halo 2 Vista rated worst PC game of the year

^ ok maybe not THAT bad, but no good news came for PC gamers with this update. PC GAMERS ARE THE ONES BUYING THIS. WE ARE THE CONSUMER, MEET OUR -blam!- NEEDS

I don't know why everyone's making a huge deal about autoaim; it was in Halo PC, and hardly noticable. If they're including reticle magnetism, then that's a different story...

The amount of auto aim in HaloPC was from very little to none and was only found on two weapons; the pistol and the sniper rifle, but only when zoomed in.

What pisses me off the most is that they discuss all about the damn Xbox controllers. "Will we be able to use the Xbox controller? How about the 360 controller? How about controller setup?"

WHO. GIVES. A. FLYING. ****. ABOUT. CONSOLE. CONTROLERS.

Honestly, this is the PC port, not the damn upgrade to Xbox to something-fifteen-times-better-then-a-console-but-still-bring ing-the-same-game! I don't give a damn about the console kids; they already have Halo 2 for the console. How about meeting to our needs and wants this time around?

Hear hear.

Also, I for one am not worried about the autoaim, I read it that that will only apply to controllers. Can we try and keep this thread on the subject of the HEK?

Actually, Bungie hasn't officially stated what they're doing with the netcode and whether it will only apply to people using controllers, but the guess with most people is that's how it's going to go.

I really dont think that the netcode will be anything to worry about. Remember that Blam! was rewritten in the first stages of Halo 2 to accomodate WAN gameplay.

:( yeah.
After spending all that time learning what every function does in H1's widget definitions and seeing that it wouldn't let you add new things, I was really looking forward to actually being able to do something with H2V's UI since it was going to be supported. Once again, I'm REALLY HOPING that we can get it supported. Have they seen the Delta Halo UI that Jcap, Timo, Boba, Snaf, Conscars, and Teh Laghave been working on?

Since those updates, there has been a lot more going on. It's a shame we won't have the ability to do something like this with H2V...

Ok, I'm not even going to read through this entire thread, I'm just going to say what I have to say.

First and foremost, DO NOT even think of blaming me for any "failure" in Halo 2 Vista. I am doing absolutely everything I can to make this editing the best it can possibly be, but if something is out of my hands, IT'S OUT OF MY HANDS, and there is NOTHING I can do about it!!

Some of you may have forgotten that I was once, and still consider myself a huge contributor to the Halo community. All those things we collectively -blam!-ed and complained and screamed that we wanted, TRUST ME Bungie has been listening!!! I am blown away by the actual scale of attention Bungie actually pays to the community. Now that I'm on the inside, I can really have an un-obscured look as to what these guys really do behind those closed doors here in Kirkland.

Halo 2 for Windows Vista is not set for release anywhere in the very near future, so there is PLENTY of time for things to change and improve. Right now, there are not plans for single player support, but anything can happen. These guys take what I have to say very seriously, and they take into consideration every single suggestion that I make. I'm pushing with all my might to have these tools support every single aspect of custom content, including SP and UI. If it happens, it happens, if not, you can't say that I didn't try.

The tools are still in a very early, but testable state. They are evolving greatly every single new build I receive. Like I said, they take into serious consideration very single suggestion I make. They constantly ask me "What I think of this feature" and "What I think they should do with that". I'm doing absolutely everything in my power to make these tools rock the socks, and believe me, so far, they do.

When I return to work on Monday, I will forward this thread to the necessary people, and I will prove how passionate the community really is about this sort of thing. When the community speaks, they listen, trust me. I'm willing to take on all the extra work that goes along with new features, because Nitro still loves ya. Without overstepping the boundaries of my NDA, I will tell you that with every single new feature that is added to the tools, there are HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of test cases that need to be manually written, generated, drawn out, and executed. Then, plans have to be made, meetings have to be organized and kittens have to be sacrificed. The 'list' that resides in my 'To do' box keeps getting longer and longer and longer, but hey, like I said, I'm willing to take the blow if it means the community will get an awesome toolset.

You have my promise. The Halo 2 Vista toolset is going to be awesome. I will make sure of it.

Until then, please, do not blame me for things you are simply assuming. It's not over 'till the fat lady sings, and she ain't singin' tomorrow so there's time.

Thanks.

:\, I'm not blaming you, it was a simple cry of sadness. I know very well you're not in a position to make major decisions. If H2EK doesn't ship with SP/UI support I'm not going to say it's your fault, ya know. I've made that clear from the first moment you surfaced at h2v.net.

edit: just to make it clear, that WAS a joke.

The saddest part is that you know damn well that the SP content is going to get hacked anyways, all this is doing is delaying things for no good reason.

It's like trying to subdue a bear with a banana peel. All you are doing is pissing him off.

Thank you Nitrous for trying to be the voice of reason in the apparent halls of idiocy, I know it must be a thankless task, but know that it's greatly appreciated by the community.

Whats really bad for development communities is when things are left in mistery for people to discover and figure out themselfs. People start to become secretive, no one wants to share discovered knowlege with the public in fear that others will take credit for their discoveries. With very little information being spread around, the community does not flurish or grow. It just turns into a greedy ruthless hiarchy of people competing for attention by being those who hold the knowlege that everyone else wants to know.

Halo ce was once like this when it was first released becuase so little was published about the editing kit. Thats why it's not going to be very healthy for the h2v community if parts of the editing kit remains undocumented and/or un-supported. If the editing kit is able to do something, anyone who uses it should know how to do it, or be able to get information on how to do it. If sp modding is going to be un-supported, if someone breaks the editing kit so that it becomes enabled, its unfair that only that one person or people they know should be the only ones who can do it. Thats why it should just be enabled from the start. I would hate to see the h2v community start of on the wrong foot as the hce community did. A community of silent secretive information whorders is no pleasant community.
