Ok, I'm not even going to read through this entire thread, I'm just going to say what I have to say.
First and foremost, DO NOT even think of blaming me for any "failure" in Halo 2 Vista. I am doing absolutely everything I can to make this editing the best it can possibly be, but if something is out of my hands, IT'S OUT OF MY HANDS, and there is NOTHING I can do about it!!
Some of you may have forgotten that I was once, and still consider myself a huge contributor to the Halo community. All those things we collectively -blam!-ed and complained and screamed that we wanted, TRUST ME Bungie has been listening!!! I am blown away by the actual scale of attention Bungie actually pays to the community. Now that I'm on the inside, I can really have an un-obscured look as to what these guys really do behind those closed doors here in Kirkland.
Halo 2 for Windows Vista is not set for release anywhere in the very near future, so there is PLENTY of time for things to change and improve. Right now, there are not plans for single player support, but anything can happen. These guys take what I have to say very seriously, and they take into consideration every single suggestion that I make. I'm pushing with all my might to have these tools support every single aspect of custom content, including SP and UI. If it happens, it happens, if not, you can't say that I didn't try.
The tools are still in a very early, but testable state. They are evolving greatly every single new build I receive. Like I said, they take into serious consideration very single suggestion I make. They constantly ask me "What I think of this feature" and "What I think they should do with that". I'm doing absolutely everything in my power to make these tools rock the socks, and believe me, so far, they do.
When I return to work on Monday, I will forward this thread to the necessary people, and I will prove how passionate the community really is about this sort of thing. When the community speaks, they listen, trust me. I'm willing to take on all the extra work that goes along with new features, because Nitro still loves ya. Without overstepping the boundaries of my NDA, I will tell you that with every single new feature that is added to the tools, there are HUNDREDS upon HUNDREDS of test cases that need to be manually written, generated, drawn out, and executed. Then, plans have to be made, meetings have to be organized and kittens have to be sacrificed. The 'list' that resides in my 'To do' box keeps getting longer and longer and longer, but hey, like I said, I'm willing to take the blow if it means the community will get an awesome toolset.
You have my promise. The Halo 2 Vista toolset is going to be awesome. I will make sure of it.
Until then, please, do not blame me for things you are simply assuming. It's not over 'till the fat lady sings, and she ain't singin' tomorrow so there's time.
Thanks.
