Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

Lately, the Bungie.net community in general has been looking for ways to improve the community. Having the day off from work, I decided to do a little cleaning and came across my dust covered Xbox. I still have it because I insist that one day I will eventually hook it back up for nostalgia's sake. So I start to think, surely there is someone out there who would want it and enjoy having it. And so an idea is born.

My proposal to the Bungie.net community is this. Many of us have old consoles, controllers, games etc that we will most likely never use again, why not get it all together and donate to those who don't have the means to get one themselves? I was thinking Toys for Tots, but they only accept new toys. Does anyone know of an organization out there that we could use for this purpose?

Hopefully, we can get somebody at Bungie to at least collect all of our donations in a central location so we can make a single mass donation on behalf of the Bungie.net community. I would collect it myself, but I think it would be much more successful if Bungie did it. That way people arent sending off thier old xbox to some random internet guy who might just be running up to his local Gamestop for trade-in money.

The only thing I ask is that all equipment and games be in working condition and free of any modified content.

Im posting this now since it should take a little time to send/collect/donate everything. I've never really attempted anything like this so I would definitely appreciate any help that the community can offer. We came together to Fight the Flood, I think we should be able to do this. I just think its better to put a smile on someone's face than it is to get $3 trade-in for your copy of Fusion Frenzy.

Due to shipping costs, I think this will mainly be a North American cause, but I invite those members who are elsewhere to try something similar wherever they may be.

Who knows, maybe Bungie can even throw in some of those old copies of Halo 2 they have lying around?

Just a thought, let me know what everyone thinks.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I think this is a good idea. However, the logistics are too much to overcome. It would be too hard. Maybe a Bungie.net Ebay auction to raise money would work. All the communtiy who want to contribute can cosolidate their efforts and send the money to a good cause.
I don't know how any of this would work. But I'm interested in helping.

Yeah, it would be a rather large undertaking, thats why I'm hoping that there is somene out there with some kind of experience handling these things.

Because all poor people need Xboxes? I just don't get that part. And I won't just give an Xbox away. I bought it for like $500, and I want my $100 for selling it.

You paid $500 bucks for an original Xbox?

If I were you I wouldn't give it away either.

Which makes you what 15 now? Come on, we both know your mommy paid for it. If you're not using it, then what's the harm in giving it to someone who has less than you. Try not to be so heartless next time.

This is an excellent idea. I don't need to spend all day writing a long post, filled with witty comments and 'big' words. It's just THAT good of an idea, 'nough said.

It's a shame that I wouldn't be able to help out though, as I live in England and you said that this'd mainly be a North American thing.

Exactly, or selling it and giving some money to people who need it.

The only real way to get people to donate is... I dunno, giving them a t-shirt when they do.

*ahem* Any other method might probably produce mediocre results.

Like I said, if people in other countires would like to mirror this effort where they are, that would be great. I know there is a fairly significant fan-base here from England (Halo2UK) and Australia. I would mainly like to set this up in North America, and once a system is in place, expand.

Yeah, it would probably help, but I was hoping to appeal to the charitable, do something nice for your fellow man without thought of restitution side of people. Maybe more people will come around once they're filled with that warm and fuzzy holiday spirit.

That is a great Idea

TO THE NEIGHBOR'S!!!

A truely generous Idea, it makes feel even more like a moron for smashing one of my xboxs during a fit of rage. (long story)
I had two so I would have had no problem donating one.

I would PM a bungie employee and ask about organizations they might already be involved with through microsoft. Or better yet get in touch with Microsoft's goodwill organization. If you get something solid, make another post/thread with the appropriate links. Who knows, you may be able to get a tax write off. Ah, the rewards of giving freely.

I'd rather die then give away Fusion Frenzy.

But I love the idea otherwise.

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Sheesh, I wish I would have read this sooner. I just sold an Xbox with a controller and everything about 1 week ago. I really hope that this gets off the ground. I will see what I can scavange up around my abode.

Also, has anyone officially said if this happens who is collecting donations?

I would recommend selling your Xbox then donating the money to a charity.
