I was just thinking, (I do that too much) with Microsoft supporting Bungie, there is real potential for a Halo-based MMFPS. It may not be in the cards, but I think there is a capacity for it. Bungie already has most of the technology infrastructure built up from Halo 1 and 2...and Microsoft has MM experience from it's Asheron's Call series. I think it's the team up of a century. SOCE's Planetside has a lot of fun elements in the game, but if it were to transcend to Halo's potential I think the market would be excellent. Think of this:

2 sides, Human and Covenant
A War spanning the galaxies (maybe only a few planets, let's not aim too high)
Constant fragfest (need I say more)

Ok to elaborate so you can actually see what I'm talking about.
Make the humans based on a planet relative to the covenant homeworld. Maybe 6 or 7 planets, 2 of which being the "homeworld" planets. For travel, you can either select the planet and insertion area from a map selection screen if you are dropship certified, or if you are not you can select a planet occupied by friendly forces (AKA your race has secured and is holding a structure) and friendly facility to drop on.

Oh man, my head is flowing with ideas...3d renderings of vehicles, xp point systems (based on kill ratios mostly) but to get with the point of this post, I want to poll you guys (and gals) to see if you would support an idea like this.

This sounds like a great idea! I would love to have larger scale battles with hundreds against hundreds! Tanks against Wraiths and Banshees against Long Swords. Mind Bending mayhem is the only possible out come!

The computer power required for a game like that would be insane. Maybe in five or six years that'll be a more practical game.

Planetside originally looked like it was going to be like Halo. It IS a little bit, but it's not nearly as smooth.

I"d play the hell out of it! Here is another thread that I replied to with my ideas a few weeks ago:

Not to mention flying starships or dropships deloying thousands of Spartan soldiers would be cool.

The original Halo plans was for an MMFPS, kinda of simular to planetside.(not really, closes I can put it to. Planetside definantly copied though if you look at the screens :/)

No, the original plan was a strategy game.

Yup, twas a stradigy game.

Whatever the hell a stradigy game is.

Anyway, as a beta tester of Planetside (I've beta tested a good handful of SOE's games), I can tell you that a lot of the feedback THEY recieved as developers were cries to make it more like Halo (I was one of those criers).
They did try, but I'd hardly say they succeeded. It doesn't stop Planetside from being wicked fun, though.

Seriously though, Microsoft could do this... They have most of the content for the game already from the previous 2 Halos, including technology, character types, even some of the details such as sound bytes and similar pieces. If Microsoft came out with a Halo MMFPS, I'd pretty much guarantee that it would steal most of Planetside's fan base, not to mention most Halo gamers out there. Lol... SOE can't copy Halo too well because of copyright infringement, but MS owns those copyrights. Hmmm....(sniff)(sniff)...do you smell that? Oh ya, that's money baby, money. Does MS want more money? Who knows? If they don't want it....I'll take it. LOL

Might I inquire as to whether you have seen the detail in SOE's EQ2? It uses multiple shaders and multiple texture maps...it looks real, and it runs off of what is now considered a "mid range" computer system...so I'd have to say that it is very possible...now, not 6 years from now, just now.

Not to mention that if the game went into production today, we probably wouldn't see it for at least 2 1/2 years.

Yes, Microsoft could do this...but will they? I hope they do.
