Seeing that it's running on DX9, any of you rich boys buying the 8800 might want to hold off if you plan on getting H2v

H2V isn't using dx10.

so why is it vista only if it could run on xp? that makes no marketing sense.

Because they want you to spend $300 on upgrading to vista. No vista = no Halo 2 pc. It makes perfect marketing sense.... to the heads at microsoft.

Remember people, its all about the $money$.

Au contraire, it makes lots of marketing sense. How else are they going to shift Vista? :-P

For the last time, Miscrosoft does NOT need a game to get people to buy or switch over to using Vista. It's operating systems are on 90% of the world's PC's, all they needed to do was build it, and you will come. 80% of the of the people reading this will have Vista in the next three years. As I said earlier the Live Anywhere service is going to be Vista-Only so thats why H2V will be vista only.

They have a product to sell, they are not simply going to sit by and wait for everyone to get it at their own pace. I know people who have still never felt the need to upgrade from windows 98. So I think that it is safe to say even in 5+ years time there will be some people still using XP. Your estimation of 80% having Vista in 3 years is by no means a bad one. However, do you really think Microsoft wouldn't rather that, for example, 90% did it in 2?

Read something before posting again. Ever. An upgrade to Vista will cost $100. If you think that's too much then you are either:

a) A child who is dependent on their parents for their income and has their parents buy them their video games

OR

b) Someone who doesn't have a job

OR

Both a and b.

Generally the people complaining about the switch fall under the last option.

Also, anyone who says making Vista the requirement to play Halo 2 is all about making people upgrade to Vista has the logic of a rock. Kids don't buy operating systems; mommy and daddy do. Go ask them why they would buy Vista. Go ask business execs why they are going to be upgrading all of their systems to Vista. Go ask anyone why every computer will soon be coming with Vista after buying it retail.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

I actually read an interesting article a little while back (I will post it if I can find the link) that said Windows Vista won't be worth the upgrade from XP.

Heres a quote from Microsoft.com.

Windows Vista Ultimate Edtition: Suggested retail price for full package product, $399.00 USD. Suggested upgrade retail price, $259.00 USD.

Bite my shiney metal ass.

I plan on being smart and buying the ultimate edition, how about you?

There are other version of Windows Vista. Uprading tot he cheapest version is what'll cost you $100.

Nice try though.

You need to get at least the home version to make it even worth the upgrade. Ultimate may not be what most people need, but you most certainly won't get any benefit from getting the cheapest version.

I plan on not wasting my money on the most expensive update. Yes, as Stealth pointed out, nice try kid; Basic and Premium will be the versions people will be upgrading to: that would be $100-150. Also, please don't try to drive the attention away from the masses; upgrading to Ultimate will not cost $400; it will cost $260. The door would be that way.

Why is it the whole world is celebrating the release of Halo3 except Bungie's Halo 3 forums?

guys im not saying that is going to be auto-aim in h2v but if you've played h2 at all you'd understand why you might need it for the br. It's not about just hitting the guy, you have to keep your reticle on the head for about a second. Just saying, the br four shot kill is going to be insane on the pc.

Dont be naive, Ultimate will have better security features than all of the other editions. And $259.00 is the UPGRADE cost. And that doesn't include sales tax. I'm not trying to decieve anyone, I'm just pointing out the facts.

Either way, if you are smart, its going to cost a whole lot more than the $100 you suggested, and it will cost less than the $300 I suggested. It will cost about $170 for the premium upgrade. Of course, this all assumes that you just want to upgrade your system and not buy the full edition.

Yes, the upgrade cost; you know, from XP, that has, what, sold billions of copies? Yeah, I can see that everyone will have to dish out $300 for the upgrade that only professional 3D designers would have a need to use.

Yeah, if you want constant crashes left and right. "Professionals" use Macs because Macs sponsor "individual artists" (yet capitalize on the scene, thus defeating the whole purpose of being an individual) and give them benefits; any person with decent knowledge will go with a PC.

necare

seriously, why couldnt they use Direct X 9?* it'd save everyone an awful lot of hassle, not having to "upgrade" to vista.

They ARE using DirectX9. As the update said, there are no DirectX10 features in Halo 2 Vista, which means that the only reason it's Vista-only is to force us to pay for MP using the new Live Anywhere feature.

There is no way in hell that feature will be free. It's blindingly obvious why.

It's. In. The. Update. There is even going to be autoaim for the mouse and keyboard.

Masterz1337

Read the update gorilla boy.

2 pages and as expected, nobody gave a reason why anybody who already has Halo 2 on Xbox should bother, except "oooh shiny grafixx!"

Personally, the real reason I'm buying Halo 2 vista is because I prefer to use a keyboard and mouse. I find it easier and more enjoyable. That, and the graphics. And lets not forget the user created content that will be made by some very talented people, just like Halo CE.

As long as the auto aim isnt like attaching 777lb magnets to a target, then I'll be fine with it. There was a very small amount of auto aim in Halo PC, if I recall. If the auto aim is too much, well... it should be able to be turned down via the editing kit.

The real reason for Halo 2 pc is to give PC gamer's a chance to play Halo 2 without an xbox. If you have halo 2 xbox, then there really isnt a reason to buy halo 2 pc, unless you're like me and find gaming on the PC more enjoyable.

No, it is not. I've worked with Macs on video and photo editing; they crash every chance they can. Guess how many video and photo editing program crashes I've experienced with my PC? Zero.
