lol you guys don't understand this matter at all do you. You think it's some big "oh noes microsoft ploy to push sales of 360s up!" lol. Do you understand how hard it is to make the maps, then pay to have them burnt a million times to MMP2 disks? or how about the clunky old original xbox live?
The reason they made it 360 only is not to force you to buy a 360, it's because it's is literally 10 times easier to put it onto 360-live.
You say stupid stuff like "how hard is that? to make the game backwards compatible?" gee... they only have to write an entire peice of software to be able to emulate the system that the game would run on and then test it for a year or two *rolleyes* wow, that sounds much more efficient. Not to mention that they would have to completely start halo 3 from scratch and push the release date back another 2 years. Not to mention the lack of achievements, online optimism, ease-of-use downloadable content, and all the other benefits of playing halo on the 360.
If you don't wanna suckle up and buy a 360, then it's your decision, i guess i won't be seeing you playing any new maps/halo 3...
