this sux, everytime i join a game of halo on the internet i get about two steps into the game and it freezes ( a little icon comes up in the lower right corner and when this happens NO button i press works!!!!!!!!!!!)
OR it will just quit the game to the main menu and say "Network Connection Lost"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What does this mean? Whats wrong with it? Does "Ping" have to do with anything? (and i'm on dial-up if that matters)

If u could be bothered reading that please help i'm a NOOB frustrated and clueless, all i wanted to do was play halo online and look what i get!!!!!!!!

You keep losing your connection online. Dial up can very much well do it. You joining a game will lag the hell out of everyone; chances are the server admin probably boots you out.

Upgrade your connection. (mumbles incoherently)

Unfortunately 56k dialup sucks, big time. If you want to enjoy HPC (possible on 56k, but a lot harder than if you've got anything - ANYTHING faster), you'll need to join dedicated servers. I suggest the Bungie dedicated ones, or if you're in Europe, the EU-Bungie servers. Anything below 400 is playable, but if it bounces up past 1000 for more than a minute, quit and join a different server, or you'll just find it unplayable and everyone will get irritated at you.

On the plus side, you've got a big advantage to dodging, but it's much harder to hit people. You'll need to lead twice as much as other people, but they'll need to lead about 1.5 times as much - and if you play for a decent amount of time, you'll be used to it, but they won't.

Totally off topic, but I just upgraded from 4 years of 56k dialup to 8meg broadband.

This is undoubtedly a good thing. Yes.

Maw

That little icon is described as "trouble brewing". Just for future use.

Having dial up=everyone that plays intarweb games hates you. Upgrade your connection.

Thanks, Alright then I'll try an upgrade to broadband as fast as possible, by the way i'm a New Zealander. But if i don't upgrade for a while how do you join a dedicated server?

And i guess thats why in games everyone jumps ahead all the time (like they're teleporting) and whenever i try to hop in a car it gets further away as i approach it LOL, that is frustrating.

Aus>NZ.
Join the cyberslam.com.au servers, you should get a good connection. Oh, and to join a dedi server, just click 'Join Game', just like any other server.

Dedicated servers have a server symbol on the lobby screen next to their name. Kind of like a 3d box with lines on it. Just click on it then hit join! Also, try joining servers with few people on, to start with, and where you will have a low ping (wait for a while in the lobby screen and join the top few games only).

It's easily possible to play well on 56k, just don't forget to lead, and don't give up!

Thanks guys you've been a great help. I've also downloaded the most recent version of DirectX ( seems been having problems with it ) and i don't know if that help. I won't give up, i'll try those cyberslam servers as well Dalmedya! And i'll take your advice on playing with few people and low ping Reaver225( it seems to be geting better already! )

People aren't disappearing and reappearing as much anymore!! = )
Thanks again,
