You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

I don't think these guys have time for that......plus Bungie.net would get boring if that happened.

Should Bungie.net users be allowed to create their own threads?
That's like saying "Should workers get paid?"

  • 11.16.2006 5:41 PM PDT

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

No user created content != Forum

Moderators deal with spam...it isn't as bad as so few years ago. Hehe...*cough*

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

To remove the ability to create threads would result in the following:

A) Spammers would simply switch their focus from the forums as a whole to each individual thread. Effectively, there would be no reduction in spam, simply a shift in where it occurs.

B) Many users would be unable to discuss the topics they wish to discuss, and thus would become bored. Quite a few users (the ones who still have the potential to become good members and contribute are included, as well as perhaps some currently good members) would leave.

C) Moderators/Bungie employees would become over-worked not only having to keep the threads clean, but also in having to make sure that discussion in all of the forums remains fresh and interesting. Few people want to talk about their ideas for Halo 3 forever, or what Cortana's words signified.

Then the forums would turn into the Classfieds, Voting Booth and the Gallery. No user created threads are much better, and while spam is a problem, it's a small problem, spam is usually only in posts, and not usually in threads because mot hardcore spam useres *cough*Pillage*cough* and you cannot create new threads until your account is one day old.

Should us normal users be allowed to create threads here in the forums? If we weren't allowed, then the amount of spam would drastically be reduced. Moderators should be the only ones allowed to create threads. That way, not only will spam be reduced, but Bungie will be able to ensure that only what they want to be discussed will be discussed on these forums. And it will help brainwash people, turning them into mindless zombies that Bungie can control.

This idea just about ruins the point of forums. Users creating threads and sharing their ideas is a great form of discussion. If only the moderators were allowed to create new threads, the amount of discussion here would be greatly restricted. Most of the spam you find on these forums in the first place is not, per se, "spam," as much as it is users posting a topic in the wrong forum.

Gt:Jordan the hobo

then there would be about 1/2 a post a day

  • 11.16.2006 6:16 PM PDT

A spammer is someone who posts on 20 different threads with nonsense or drivel, not someone who make a bad thread.

If a bad thread is created , then it will die a quick death by dropping to page two. Using your logic, it would be a better idea for mods to approved posts, not threads. 20 times more bad posts are created than bad threads.

Besides, the ninjas have enough to do besides read through tons of thread topics to approve or decline.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Well, I could. I'd spell basically correctly, for starters.

$x='print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x; ';
print chr(36),"x=",chr(39),$x,chr(39),";\n",$x;

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

Is someone on the rebound from a blacklist?
The only threads that get locked are locked for a reason

Osmosis!

This site is to keep the public updated on wants going on and somewhere we can discuss it... Why take that away, it would defeat the purpose of Forum

I hope you realise almost all the Mods are unpaid, volunteer fans?

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

...This is a forum, not a -blam!- sex camp. Forums are places for members to talk with each other. If moderators choose what to talk about, that sort of defeats the purpose.

I disapprove of the idea. It would be very effective at killing this site's activity.

Huge individual threads are a lot harder to moderate than a nice spread out forum. If anything, the spam would increase.

The only way to stop spam is to not allow people to post, but that really defeats the purpose.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Also don't forget that if too many replies get deleted the thread gets all screwed up. You would have to worry about that as well.

LoL

What kind of topics would the moderators make?

I'm sure it would become very redundant eventually if we did something like this.

  • 11.16.2006 9:37 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

That's like saying "We need to cut down the crime rate, so let's just kill everyone."

A little heavy-handed, don't you think?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Taking away the ability to create threads would be a kick in the pills to us the members.

We are bungie. Take away the reason we come here and it just wont be fun.
