First of all, I have played Zelda Ocarina of Time and Halo (of course). I have tried to play older version of "The Legend of Zelda," but it did not hold my interest with the repetition of gameplay and the sound. Although Ocarina of Time was a great game, I have no intention of ever playing it again. It has almost no value in the long run, until years have passed and one forgets everything about it. Halo is quite different. How many times have you brought a large group of friends together to watch/play a game of Zelda? Halo is something all can participate in and create new experiences and memories. The lasting appeal of Halo has made it last as an extremely popular three years after its release. Can a game of Zelda hold an appeal of that nature? To a level where you would actually play through the game many, many times? In this case I would choose Halo as the game that should hold the top position.
As for character, Mario and Link do not have depth just because of the years they have been around. The storylines for these games are redundant as well as the gameplay. Who would speculate over every issue of an upcoming Mario title? What video game character can be considered to have depth? Other than the books, Master Chief would be just as deep as the others. Yet it is this solid storyline that brings Master Chief into the spotlight.
