I'm almost speechless about Team Swat going away. Cannot believe it. I somehow knew it when I read "we apologize in advance" I'm sad. Oh well.

I think I might cry a little myself about the swat thing. TS and Skirmish had become boring adn riddled with cheaters, swat became a great place to go and play 9 out of 10 games without getting modded or sb'd. Plus, the fast pace made for a LOT of very close games.

Why would they take out one of the top 3 most played playlists....."popularity isnt the deciding factor in these changes...." Why the hell wouldn't it be a deciding factor....If its popular....that probably means people like it...I dont know maybe im wrong but that seemed like a stupid move to me....oh well...as long as the people are all right with it its fine with me

Well, as much as I liked Team SWAT, I secretly knew Ninja would find a way to rip it away. Oh well, maybe change is good.

Okay...just a little response. Taking out Team Swat makes absolutely no sense to me at all. If you're trying to consolidate the remaining players into fewer matchmaking playlists, why would you delete one of the most popular ones? This will just spread out the remaining players in the other playlists and make games harder to find. It makes absolutely no sense at all. I really only go on Halo 2 now to play Swat...i guess i won't be on live much anymore.

I once thought that companies tried to modify products in order to make consumers happy... Bungie obviously runs off the "lets take all the fun away" gameplan -_-

btw...i still love you Bungie...just a little bit less than i did before i read the worst weekly update ever....

Nice. Actually exactly what I was hoping for. I played more than 12000 games on this account, and a whopping 8500-9500 are Big Team Battle games, so *for me* this update is GREAT news. I can see the waiting time for games in Big Team Skirmish drop drastically!

Of course, this update will undoubtedly annoy lots and lots of others, but I for one applaud Bungie.

Oh yeah... *clap* *clap* *clap*.

This actually makes up for the whole "new maps for the 360 only"--blam!-up.

I'm ok with the multi changes..

i actually love multi team and swat (not action sac) but i understand the reasons and i would much rather have quick matchup times than many lists and no one to play with...

so,... good job guys.

I personally stopped playing team SWAT when it became ranked. I enjoyed it much more unranked, so i guess a heavier weight in training is a decent trade off

you know what i think? i think you should have kept Master Chief's face mask the same as it was when the trailer came out... why did u have to change it?

  • 11.17.2006 11:54 PM PDT

If you're swimming in a creek, and an eel bites your feet - that's a moray.

I don't understand... Team SWAT, the second most popular playlist, is being axed, while Team Snipers, with a pittance of the usage, gets to live on?

WTF?

I love you guys and all, but that's retarded.

Per Frankie, on 6.7.6:
After just 24 hours online, the new playlist Team SWAT has already eclipsed Team Snipers as the second most popular matchmaking playlist, and is within a hair's breadth of beating Team Slayer, the most popular matchmaking playlist ever.

Now, I can't find the article and its accompying pie chart, but I recall just such a chart identifying the popularity of gametypes, with Team Slayer garnering something akin to 40% of the games played, and Team SWAT netting just under that (though I believe both were over 40%). The rest of the playlists fought over the crumbs left by those two.

Granted, SWAT was relatively new and in the height of its apparent popularity, and I have no access to current usage statistics, but I cannot believe that SWAT is less popular than Snipers, BTB Skirmish, and BTB Slayer. Even if I grant the BTB gametypes a double share for having potentially double the actual players per match, the numbers don't add up - SWAT is (or was) immensely more popular than any other game type aside from Slayer, and even then it was closer than a Florida vote.

Arguing that the SWAT playlist is too specific is utter nonsense, as Snipers is every bit as specific (indeed, more - in SWAT you usually have two different weapons available, and can experience both Slayer and Objective games), and the suggestion that the decision is not made based on popularity is preposterous. On what else could the decision possibly be based?

Leave SWAT. Make it unranked if you want - that doesn't matter. Rid us of the lag-fest which is BTB, or combine the two BTBs if that can't happen. The staples of this game are Team Slayer, Team Skirmish, Rumble Pit, and the Training versions of each. Add to this the SWAT playlist in a ranked or unranked form, for no other reason than its obviously high popularity. There is absolutely no other valid reason to make a change to the existing playlists other than overt changes in their popularity, and unless SWAT has suffered a huge loss that I have neither seen nor have any information concerning, it seems to me there is no valid reason for removing it.

Leave SWAT. Kill Snipers.

Also, if you please, show us an updated graph (or hell, how about a dynamically updated one - up to the day or something) showing the playlist popularity both in terms of games played (as a percentage) and players participating (also as a percentage). This would lend credence to your decision if it truly has merit, and expose it as a sham if not. Plus it would rule.

im usually calm about match making updates but ...team SWAT! are you kidding sure getting rid of it will make ppl play the other ones that no one likes but isnt like the most popular playlist? i dont understand you bungie but i still love you!

  • 11.18.2006 1:23 AM PDT

Multi-Team should definitely come back sometime...That's one my favorite unranked playlists to play.

I cannot belive you took out TEAM Swat....that's the best gametype in the whole game! Ahh bring it back!

Good update, no new h3 info really but I suppose I can't ask for much considering everything we got on halo day.

I love how SWAT is gone. I really want it to go unranked again. Ranked is just WAY too annoying. People just quit on the other team to increase their odds of winning. Ranking swat killed it for me.

I guess Training is all im going to be playing these days. maybe some snipers. but thats about it.

NOTICE TO ALL SWAT REMOVAL CRY-BABIES

It has NOTHING To do with its popularity/fun level/match log/any other applicable crap

Its just something they have to do. Get over it.

It was inevitable that changes like this were to occur to matchmaking, however I think its a real shame that SWAT is having to pack its bags and leave. I've always considered SWAT to be a real gem of the playlists, simply because it is so different to the rest of the Gametypes, thus forcing players to change their style of play to a degree that is not necessary in any other form of playlist, and this is why it has grown so popular since its release. (Judging from the Matchmaking stats chart.) Although i hold nothing against Bungie for taking away SWAT. They know what they are doing and its clearly for the greater good in the long run. I just hope they bring it back to our screens in the future ;-).

if they bring back team swat at least make it unranked, sucks having a friend over and being excluded from the quick fun fast pace of swat.

also give me the chance to make team carnage for the holiday season, since i love the randomish game types that occur there, not to mention have many more in mind
