If you're swimming in a creek, and an eel bites your feet - that's a moray.
I don't understand... Team SWAT, the second most popular playlist, is being axed, while Team Snipers, with a pittance of the usage, gets to live on?
WTF?
I love you guys and all, but that's retarded.
Per Frankie, on 6.7.6:
After just 24 hours online, the new playlist Team SWAT has already eclipsed Team Snipers as the second most popular matchmaking playlist, and is within a hair's breadth of beating Team Slayer, the most popular matchmaking playlist ever.
Now, I can't find the article and its accompying pie chart, but I recall just such a chart identifying the popularity of gametypes, with Team Slayer garnering something akin to 40% of the games played, and Team SWAT netting just under that (though I believe both were over 40%). The rest of the playlists fought over the crumbs left by those two.
Granted, SWAT was relatively new and in the height of its apparent popularity, and I have no access to current usage statistics, but I cannot believe that SWAT is less popular than Snipers, BTB Skirmish, and BTB Slayer. Even if I grant the BTB gametypes a double share for having potentially double the actual players per match, the numbers don't add up - SWAT is (or was) immensely more popular than any other game type aside from Slayer, and even then it was closer than a Florida vote.
Arguing that the SWAT playlist is too specific is utter nonsense, as Snipers is every bit as specific (indeed, more - in SWAT you usually have two different weapons available, and can experience both Slayer and Objective games), and the suggestion that the decision is not made based on popularity is preposterous. On what else could the decision possibly be based?
Leave SWAT. Make it unranked if you want - that doesn't matter. Rid us of the lag-fest which is BTB, or combine the two BTBs if that can't happen. The staples of this game are Team Slayer, Team Skirmish, Rumble Pit, and the Training versions of each. Add to this the SWAT playlist in a ranked or unranked form, for no other reason than its obviously high popularity. There is absolutely no other valid reason to make a change to the existing playlists other than overt changes in their popularity, and unless SWAT has suffered a huge loss that I have neither seen nor have any information concerning, it seems to me there is no valid reason for removing it.
Leave SWAT. Kill Snipers.
Also, if you please, show us an updated graph (or hell, how about a dynamically updated one - up to the day or something) showing the playlist popularity both in terms of games played (as a percentage) and players participating (also as a percentage). This would lend credence to your decision if it truly has merit, and expose it as a sham if not. Plus it would rule.
