Please remove the limit of 512 Collision Materials. I know it sounds like an insane amount, but I'm allready pushing half that on one of my current sbsp's. I can easily imagine that three or four years down the road this will be a real problem as hardware becomes better. If my 9800 pro can chew it, it's a breeze for a X4800XTX.

Collision materials are basically the effects that happen when two things collide. Like rock, grass, or the hunter shield. It is very useful for makign certain places harder to reach. Some people do them to make people on foot fall through certain things or pass through walls, while a warthog can be made to collide with the surfaces.

No, collision materials are literally your solid objects ingame. If the player can stand or not go through it, it's a collision material. Having different collision materials is what allows different pieces of geometry to have different textures/shaders/so-forth.

So what exactly is it that you want? Remove all the solid objects? Please explain in english.

Sounds like what he means is that there is a limit to how many objects can be on a BSP at once.

Yes, there's a limit and it needs to be removed for the H2V toolkit.

Not a limit on the number of objects, just the number of shaders you can use in a map that are collidable. BTW, what kind of map are you using that needs 250+ different shaders? It seems a ridiculous amount and having 512 different shaders would probably make the map cache rather large.

I would have gone into the collidable materials/shader/sbsp thing, but this board typically doesn't understand that sort of thing. As for what kind of map I'm making? A good looking one. And it doesn't matter what the size of the cache file is, you're on a PC, time to use up the resources available to you. I'm not a console dev, so I'm not on a memory budget.

Well, theres using resources and then theres just being ridiculous. I'm sure I don't have to remind you but I will anyway. Not everyone will have super high end specs, and the more shaders you use the more video ram you need. I don't know the amount of vram you are using with your current project, but with 512 0.3 Mb shaders (I don't think thats an unreasonable size for a pretty shader including all bitmaps) you already have half the amount of data most cards can handle (256mb) with just shaders and I'm sure bogging the video card down is the last thing you want to do.

yeah, because we all know that's the case three or four years from now. Do you also realize that the more shaders included in a sbsp the smaller the shader's basemap resolution has to be since it takes up less real estate, right?

I also dont know where you get this notion of video memory usage and shader size, but I can tell you right now that I'm allready getting nearly ten times the preformance you expect. As for people without these "super high end specs" you're talking about, they can do the same thing I do when something is slowing me down. Know what I'm talking about? No? Psst, they can turn down their settings a bit.
