Well with similar attitude I would go with Rockstar but I don't think Bungie is on that level yet. After Halo 3 thought anything is possible.

If Rare didn't get signed to Microsoft I could of seen A sort of rivalry between them if they actually could make games a little bit faster.

Why are you calling an FPS FTS?!!!!!
Sigh* you do realize rockstar makes bad quality games with not that great of gameplay with a bunch of grand theft auto games with no real differences to each. ITs horrifying.

They dont have that big of a profit margin in comparison anywho.

If there would be a rival, I would vote for EA Games for their Battlefield 2, Modern Combat. RTS would be it. nothing else. nope. nada. zero. sero.

For quality, very few companies can exceed Bungie. Valve,Ubisoft(some of their games),Kojima Studios, Rockstar,Nintendo are all as good or better than Bungie when it comes to games. I had a much longer post, comparing Halo to various other games, but I accidently deleted it.

That's a joke, right? I mean, I'd understand if you said Dice(Dice isn't owned by EA, shut up), and Battlefield 2 on the pc, but Modern Combat sucks. A lot.

If you weren't such a fanboy(XDXO) you would probably realise what a revolutianary game GTA3 was.

Rival? They don't really have one...I guess that Valve might be considered a sort of rival, since Halo 2 had to face off Half Life 2 (<---best game ever) for Game of the Year.

Rockstar is hardly a Bungie rival..
Bungie makes much more unique, less adult (broader market), and individual games. Rockstar makes.. What? A repetative game series involving prostitutes, drugs, and killing innocent people without purpose, and another game involving a school bully. Wow. Competition?

Epic Games however, makes gorier games, and have made some great first person shooters. Gears of War, their 3rd person shooter is quite good, but it's sitting right there next to my Halo 2 case on my "Awesome Games" shelf.

I think EA Games has never made top quality games, but Battlefield has been a good series.. Although I'm tiring of them due to the emptiness feeling I get when playing and the terrible teamwork on most of the players part. (Which does indicate whether the developers implemented teamwork as well as they could've) Notably BF2142 and Battlefield: Modern Combat. BF1942 and BF2 for PC were great games.

Valve is their biggest competitor, although since they create games for different platforms they dont directly compete

I find the whole wars between games a bit silly.

I love the Halo series.
I love the Half-Life series.
I love Gears of War.
I love the Splinter Cell series.
I love the Call of Duty series.

They're all great games. Some on different platforms, some on the same. I see no reason as to why I can't buy them all, and enjoy them each in their own right. That's the beauty of having so many games.

[ot]Have you actually played Bully or Gta? Because you sound pretty ignorant in your post.

I mean, there are so many stupid thing you wrote there. Gta3 was one of the most unique and revolutianary games in 2001. You don't need to kill innocent civilians. And guess what, you kill drug dealers. Infact, a big part of San Andreas is you trying to keep drugs out of your gang. And in Bully, your not a school bully. God, what is it with people hating other game developers. Noooo, Ensemble is going to ruin Halo!!! There was this topic where the thread creator said that it was horrible that Bungie was letting someone else develop a Halo game, and then talked about crappy RTS games are,but admitted he liked Age of Empires. [/ot]

Now , to get back on topic, Bungie kicks ass, they not only have a hairy man in a gorilla costume with a cowboy hat, they have Frankie's bald head. The only rivals the Halo series has is every single good FPS on the Xbox/Xbox 360. Which is a lot, but Halo is better than 90% of all FPS, so no, Halo{and Bungie} don't have a direct rival when it come to genre(except for Bioshock and Operation Flashpoint, but those were made by God disguised as developer). MGS4 and Twighlight Princess can be seen as rivals, considering there both flagship titles for their respective systems. Gears of War and Halo can be rivals, who the better killer ap?

But Bungie's real rival is me. I'm the reason for everything bad that's happened to them. I drank from Ling Ling's head, I ate the cookies from the cookie jar, I banned Tijuana Mana from the universe, I'm the reason Alex Seropian left and Framkie joined. I'm the reason Shishka is still alive and the reason why the Halo 2 pistol sucks. It was me, I confess.

Note:The reason I put the middle paragraph in bold was because I wanted the mods to ony read that relativly smart part of my topic, and not read the rest and ban me for flaming and spamming. So mods, on ly read the bold, okay?

I feel bad quoting your entire post. Yeah, I've played a few of the GTA games. It's full of pretty rude content. Full of it. Whether it's blatant or not. It's not my taste of games.

Anyway, I don't see the whole "Mods, only read my smart stuff" thing.. I do see that you agree, Bungie hardly has a rival, but I'm still telling you, GTA was hardly "revolutionary". It didn't bring us anything new. Perhaps it didn't deal with drugs (except that your ice cream truck allows you to sell drugs to children? Great.), but it still sports prostitutes, and the ability to kill any random person on the street that is extremely encouraged. And let's not forget Hot Coffee, along with the other instances of -blam!- in the game. It just doesn't give them any good credit in my book, and I won't buy any of their games. Oh, they've lost a customer than Bungie has gained, and I'm sure more people agree with me than not.

It's nowhere near competing with Halo, which is also a completely different genre.

I think Blizzard is up there with Bungie, although Blizzard have mainly done RTS and RPG.

  • 11.27.2006 1:58 AM PDT

If you don't got it, you want it. If you got it, you want more of it. Of course if you don't know what it is, it's hard to get any in the first place.

Zag, GTA was a good game. It had solid design, fairly fresh gameplay, and it had good cinematic and vocal direction. It also really brought Sandbox design to the forefront of gaming. But that's really it. Ultimately there isn't much to GTA other than that. So once you get past GTA3, the innovation factor drops by 10. Basically the only thing innovative about GTA3 was the world they created.

Bungie's only competitors are the companies and teams who make innovative and creative games that are fun to play. Look at the sub-teams within Ubisoft. Oh sure some of those teams put out absolute crap, but Michel Ancel and his team have made amazing games. Or what about the Splinter Cell team?

Basically exluding a few companies, all of them are fair game so long as they make good games.

Blizzard has a fun community, but the level of interaction is dramatically different than Bungie, so it's not a fair comparison there.

Besides, Myth 2 > Starcraft/Warcraft 3.

I'm so sick of hearing people say that. No, they freaking, didn't. There were tons of sandbox-like games previous to it. It was hardly revolutionary at all. The only thing it brought us, is Saints Row(meaning, games where you drive around, shoot people, and smack hoes).

Grand Theft Auto isn't like anything Bungie has ever done. So, not a rival.

I really don't think it's possible to compare Bungie to a certain game company. Bungie has just beem dipped in so many game genres you can't just say Epic or Valve. Sure, that could cover the Halo and Marathon categories but what about Myth and Oni?

In my opinion, the best game ever was Counterstrike Beta. Not that new source crap. Anyone who played Half-Life (1) a lot should know what I am talking about. You know the muliplayer gameplay that branched off of Half-Life. Oh, the hours wasted on the computer during summer days. Most fun I ever had in a video game.

In........................................................Out .

Bungie's greatest enemy is Batman.

Batman: You filthy criminals...

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

Bungie is the best FPS, Esemeble Studies is the best RTS. So they cant rival because they make totally different games.

If anything, Activision has the best chance to rival Bungie.
