My opinions on marching band:

Marching: It's not too terribly fun. It involves moving about in learned patterns and playing learned pieces of music - all for the nth time. Plus, if you put your all you typically feel exhausted by the end of it - which is the only real payoff. Since you've marched the show so many times it really loses its fun appeal.

Learning a Show: This involves lots of time standing at attention. It involves lots of time in general. Not too terribly fun.

Games: Playing in the stands is great fun; it's probably one of the only rewarding aspects to me. I'm rarely bored while in the stands since that's one of the few places we're really lax on discipline. Sometimes during the game our drumline plays Korn's Blind, and I headbang. You wouldn't think this would get so much attention, but like pelvic thrusting, I'm great at it. I keep getting stopped about it at school (in positive ways) and even around OTHER schools in the Tucson area.

Competitions: Yawn. They're basically a whole lot of travel and a whole little of actual purpose. Go to one, get your rating, get your captions; it's just there to boost your ego. You already have your invitation to state.

Social: The band - particularily MY band - seems immature to me. I can never really 'get involved' with them directly because it always feels awkward. They ARE pretty funny sometimes, though.

Anyway... my section leader got hit by a car two days ago (in all seriousness), so I get to play the solo tonight and tomorrow. Hurray for 1/3 of the show standing still!
my band has a really great show this year. i dont ever get tired of it. (our season ends tomorrow:( )
and i dont know what your competitons are like but the ones we go to can be as fun as the football games or even more fun.

You people will never understand. You can't know what it's like to perform in front of an audience of well over a thousand people. You will never know the commradery or excitement that we feel. You can't understand what it's like when you win a competitoin and know that you are the best in the state, when all your hard work pays off. I don't know why I bother talking to you about it. It's obviously to difficult of a concept for you to grasp.
What the hell are you talking about. You think that I don't know what performing to a thousand people is like. What about the state or even district wrestling matches there are well over a thousand people there. And you think I don't work hard. I don't play football, but how about every Friday night when our team goes and kicks some ass. There's nearly five thousand people there and thats just a normal game not playoffs or anything. And don't say well you go to a huge school because I don't. West Branch Local School District is a division II school. Just stop now. Band is not cool in anyway UNLESS you don't become obsessed and do the whole become -blam!- and warped because your in band. I know several kids who in elementary and middle school who were really cool then they went and joined a cult. That cult was band. Your school may not be like mine but at my school band is literally a cult and the members admitt it.
You better not reply with something like "shut up you stupid jock" because I'm not a jock. I play two sports Golf and wrestling. I like golf more because its just more fun wrestling is because I want to push myself to be the best. Also generally jocks get decent to bad grades I on the other hand am a straight A student in every excellerated class I can be in.

oh yeah caboose about that whole speech on how band -blam!-s were going to be my boss some day i find that highly unlikly on acount of i probably going to colledge on a scholar-ship and not from sports from education because my GPA is a 3.5 and i have all honors classes so when i making a ton of money and living a life you will be living in your parents basement arguing about marching band and typeing speechs on the internet stating what your dad told you that day when you came home from 6th grade crying because all the kids called you -blam!- ...and sadly they werent lying so move to San Fransico you -blam!- sucking pansy

I don't care what the -blam!- your GPA is, Caboose is a good friend of mine...niether of us are "retards" as you like to imply, nor are we literal -blam!-s, you need to pull your head out of your ass and look around.

alright first of all : i dont see where you get i am a hypocryte from because i said i wasnt going to rag on anybody because they do something they enjoy and i didnt you jackass i straight up ragged on marching band itself not the people in it.
second i agree MB is competitive but for someone to sit there and say it is the MOST COMPETITIVE SPORT OUT THERE is a slap in the face to everyone who plays real sports (including soccer).

Aparently you misunderstand that marching band is made up of a group of people, therefore when ragging on Marching Band you are ragging on people who enjoy what they're doing...wow...I bet you didn't realize that...no wait, i know you didn't, because then you wouldn't have said what you did...hmmm...perplexing.

Do us all a favor and don't parade around in your mental underwear, it just isn't a pretty sight. Secondly, leave your worthless attention seeking crap on the main page, it will make life for all of us a lot better. And Third, you can just shut the hell up about Helljumper and Angel. I'll just bet that you're one of those football jocks who run around riding a dirtbike and playing paintball, and then come to school the next day strutting around like you own the place. Reality check buddy, you don't. Get a life, all of you conceited football nuts need to just shut the hell up and consider your actions. You do realize that the people in band and other things that you consider to be stupid and whom you constantly step on every single day of your life will one day be your boss? Get real, you aren't some sort of God. Use what few brain cells you have left from tackling other guys to take a good look at the hateful glances thrown your way in the halls. Take a good look at the faces they go with, because one day you may just be sitting in a corner office with your resume in hand, looking at that same exact face.

hey u stupid DF. i already said i was in band for 5 years, FIRST CHAIR TRUMPET.I WAS IN MARCHING BAND FOR 3 YEARS,AND WON SUPERIOR TWICE. I DONT PLAY FOOTBALL,I DO PLAY PAINTBALL, AND I MAINLY SPEND MY TIME TALKING W/ OTHER PEOPLE OR READING. SO NO, I DONT STRUT MY STUFF. I DONT BELIEVE IN DOING ARROGANT CRAP LIKE THAT. IF U HAD READ THE POSTS I MADE ON PAGE TWO OR THREE ON THIS FORUM,U WOULD ALREADY KNOW THAT. DONT TRY SAYIN I CANT HACK IT, I GOT OUT DUE TO THE DULLNESS OF THE WHOLE THING. I AM IN ARMY JROTC AND ON THE DRILL TEAM.I GO TO COMPETITIONS,DRILL MEETS,FOOTBALL GAMES,COLORGUARD DUTY,SUMMER CAMP(WHICH IS A WEEK LONG,LIKE A MINI BOOT CAMP)AND PRACTICES THREE TIMES A -blam!- WEEK.DONT TELL ME I CANT HACK IT BUB. I HAVE BEEN THERE, AND DONE THAT. I SAY BAND -blam!- BECAUSE THAT IS WOT WE CALL IT. SOME SAY BAND GEEK,OTHERS BAND NERD,BUT HERE,WE SAY BAND -blam!-. IF U R OFFENDED BY THE USE OF THIS WORD,THEN U SHOULD RELOOK AT YOUR LONG TERM GOALS IN LIFE. I DONT EXPECT U 2 SEE THIS,AS U OBVIOUSLY DIDNT FULLY READ MY EARLIER POSTS. AND THAT BEOTCH THING, WAS A JOKE. I DONT EXPECT N E 1 TO THINK THAT AS MY "COMEBACK". IF U DO, THEN U HAVE SOME -blam!- ISSUES.

That wasn't directly aimed in your direction. I read your posts. I read the entire thread. I was saying that in general to football players. Most of them are like that. Although not all, there are exceptions, hell I'm friends with some football players, but I just put that whole rant in there in conjuntion with my response, I was just too lazy to go back and make a new post to do it all. But you were dissing my friends and that I can't ignore. BTW would you be so kind as to turn your caps lock off it does get really annoying to read a post that is all in capitals.

i never said they were -blam!-s

Yep I do, and buddy I too am an honors student. I was a high school freshmen last year and I was technically a junior with all of my credits and such, plus I've had a 4.0 GPA since at least 6th grade if not back to 4th. And no I am not -blam!- thank you, I am quite comfortable with my se><ual orientation. And what do you plan on going to college for hmmm? I plan on going for degrees in either Electrical Engineering, or Aero/Astro Nautical engineering and do you know what the average salary is for a person fresh out of college with degrees in those fields? Upwards of about $60,000 and that is just the starting salary. There is still the possibility that someone could make more their first year. I respect your opinion however, but let me offer you some advice, unless you learn how to spell and use proper grammer it will most likely take you a while to get into a college that is even half way decent.

...Hmn, sounds like something a very smart, intelligent, MATURE person would say. Oh, and by the way, It doesn't matter if you have a masters degree in every course available at your Universaty. If you tell your boss to fucl< off you're still fired.

hey, please read my earlier post. i misspell words occasionally, if i am in a rush. i was there when he wrote it, and believe me, he was. so what he misspelled some words? i dont exactly rag on other people 4 it. its just a quicker way pf letting people know what you feel. when im mad, i dont care how many misspellled words i make, its just so long as i get my point across. i myself am an Honors student, straight A's, and will b joining the military instead of using my knowledge where i may get paid more. does that make me stupid? no. my point is, i dont like to diss people unless they piss me off as you did earlier. however, i am managing to create a nice, unhostile conversation directed towards you. however you interpret that is on you.

Hey, I'm all for having a civilized conversation with people. It's just when others on here posts stupid nonsense on a thread that one of my friends made, and then they start flaming them. That I can't abide. Joining the military isn't stupid, in fact I salute you, you are willing to do something that I probably couldn't bring myself to do (ok maybe I would but I'll never know as I have some big plans for when I am finally a part of the work force) I never said that joining the military makes you stupid. And I realize that I pissed you off, hell everyone does that occasionally, but this is a forum for discussions and people are bound to get pissed off here. People talk, tensions run high and sooner or later somebody always snaps. Although I can be very argumentive at times, it's just part of who I am. I love getting into discussions with people and expressing my views, it makes life interesting.

Because we just can't. There will always be at least one person who has a view that is different from yours. You will never be able to eliminate that. Besides, discussion makes life interesting and often times fun.

Caboose, i never said u called joining the military stupid. im just saying that that is my plan, as is Boneless_360's, after going to college to become an officer(i think, although he wants to do air force and i marines) its just when u called him stupid or something along those lines, and ragged on him hacking it in college, i kinda got offended. and i do agree w/ the whole conversation thing and that this is a forum where people might argue and possibly post hurtful(god forbid) things. i do believe in a good conversation thing though.

Ah, I see, I thought he meant he was going to go to college to become like some sort of business man and then go out into the world and make a fortune that rivals that of Bill Gates. It just seemed like he was acting all high and mighty and I hate people who do that unless they really do have reason to claim it. He mentioned nothing about the military, therefore I assumed that he meant he was going to be the next Donald Trump or something. But I do not believe that I actually called him stupid. I just said that he was being a little bit a of a hipocrite.

"Personaly I'd pick marching band over Halo 2 any day"--> this is the part that i have trouble understanding, can you repeat the question?

??

well, you must be someone who plays video games all day and has no other life. some people actually like other things more than Halo. I know that must be a shock to you, since obviously you have less of a life than HellJumper. i would take soccer and good grades over halo 2 any day (I have good grades now, but if I were to give up either Halo 2 or straight As, I'd take the As.)

Geez im offended, actualy im have limited game play so i cant play all day or ever day of the week for that matter, and for your info, i take AP classes. Im just not a musical enough person to understand this persons opinion so there

half of what you say isn't in plain english...I'm not trying to dis your intellegence or anything, I'm just saying that some parts are confusing. Also, in our school, band is not a cult thing, and we are not automatically -blam!- and warped becuase we join band I personally don't like wrestling as you do, but I'm not gonna call you or it -blam!-. Give us a bit of respect at least.

Sorry twas bored and felt like yelling at someone. And when I say yelling I mean typing random words in the hope of them coming together to make a sentence that made sense. I really wasn't trying to say anything against any band except for my schools. The cult thing is more of an inside joke with one of the very few non homo-blam!- kids in MY schools band. I do respect you for at least joining some club or something and putting hard work into it though. You see I make fun of some of the people who are in band because I don't like how they act sometimes but, that does not in any way mean that I don't respect them for being in the aforementioned band. I never said YOU were -blam!- and warped (or at least I think I didn't). Oh, go ahead and dis my intelligence I do it all the time for the sake of making people laugh/smile because I don't like to be unhappy and I don't think anyone else does either. Wow I'm good at this rambling stuff

 • 10.29.2004 6:14 PM PDT

I was right I didn't say you were -blam!- for being in band. I said it's not cool UNLESS you DON'T become -blam!- and warped not that your -blam!- and warped because of band. I was just trying to say that a majority of the kids in band at my school are really um... dumb to be kind and to stay away from the word -blam!-. I use -blam!- to much. But just because I think they are dumb does not mean that I treat them with any less respect I just don't hang-out with them. You see they don't like Halo so I don't like them(joke). Now I shall go and eat a fudge scicle. I don't know how to spell scicle. You get the point. Right?

If you trash talk marching band then you diss everyone in it. It's like insulting a race or religion. No hard feelings though. I think I may have gone a little over board by saying that marching band is more competitive than most sports but it is as competitive.
