When you think about it, yes it does take more skill to kill people with the needler than the pistol. However, who would bother wasting his time with a weapon that hardly appears on most maps that is very hard to use?

Why Pedestrian is a big freakin dumbass.

Seriously, that post was totally devoid of any rational thought or intelligent conversation. Isn't it hypocritical (That's how it's spelled BTW) to stereotype everyone who plays Halo as being hypocritical?

Dude, darekster, I find it more satisfying to kill my opponents with the pistol anyday. The needler in the hands of a skilled player can get some kills, but it's more of a gimp and it limits your potential. Imagine how retarded it would be if people played with needlers instead of pistols. Nobody would be able to kill anybody.

By the way, I doubt that there are many "skilled needler users."

What do you class skill as? I thinka skillful weapon is difficult to kill with, but not so hard that in some circumstances it is impossible. They have to also be based on aiming.

Weapons that are too easy to kill with:

Rocket Launcher
Fuel Rod Gun
Flamer

Weapons that are too hard to kill with:

Needler

Weapons that require little aiming:

Plasma Rifle
Plasma Pistol
Shotgun
Assault Rifle

Most Skilled Weapons:

Pistol
Sniper Rifle

Take note that I am not saying that all are unskillful, to me the other from most to least skill is this:

Sniper Rifle
Pistol
Assault Rifle
Shotgun
Rocket Launcher
Plasma Pistol
Plasma Rifle
Fuel Rod Gun
Needler
Flamer

That made no sense. :\

I only disagree with Nessy because I'm not totally convinced that the sniper rifle takes more skill to use than the pistol.

I disagree that the flamethrower takes no skill. Yes it can kill a person in less than a second, but you have to be really close for it to be effective. Anyone with half a brain could kill a noob wielding a flamer. But to actually use the flamer while everyone else runs around with pistols and sniper rifles take some guts and brains.

Again, anyone with half a brain can 3sk with a pistol.

AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHHHH

No, the flame throwing is not as close range as you may think, it still inflicts full damage if you stand on the needlers at co and are being hit from below.

And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

In........................................................Out .

Yeah, the speed of the needler is not very effective, so we should just stick to the ol' pistol, and the Plasma grenades, :) But the only actual camping I do is sniping.

The needler is only good in tight environments, at middle range and preferably target-rich environments. In Longest, it's one of the nastiest weapons barring the flamethrower.

Flamethrower is not *that* difficult to use, but it is certainly very nasty at times.

I have to say I agree a bit with the original poster: I indeed WILL use *noobish* tactics to win, like I did the other day - hiding outside a teleporter with a rod and spamming the next guy who came through.

Mind you, I only did that because 1: I had the flag and 2: the guy chasing me would have beaten me quite easily if I fought him with a pistol (0.7 on the Nessy-o-scale). So instead, I toasted his ass with a rod, and won the match.

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

I love the "YOU FAIL" site someone posted up, gave me a good laugh ^^.

The pistol is a -blam- to use when you're hemmed in by more than 2 people. The shotgun needs skill to be used efficiently, like not having to fire it 10 times to kill one guy. The sniper rifle just annoys me most of the time. I'm not a long range guy anyway, with all games, but the huge amount of leading that needs to be done with the Sniper is infuriating, especially mid range. I've only got a few kills with the needler, but that makes it all the more satisfying when you do :P.

Ditto, Nessy.

But in all seriousness, what I think TUI_Obi_Wan really meant to say was that anybody with half a brain would decide that it was smarter to use the pistol than to use the needler. He just said it in a way that made us laugh.

You're half right. The point I was trying to convey was that anyone can pick up a pistol, point it at someone halfway down Longest (or across the bridge in Ice Fields) and expect to get a kill. All you people who think the pistol or sniper rifle are the only weapons that "skilled" players use need to shut the -blam!- right up. Because it's getting seriously annoying always hearing about 3SK this and HS that... Bungie should've just taken out all the other weapons except for the pistol/sniper rifle since that's all "skilled" players use. Then how fun would the game be? About as much fun as watching a horse take a s**t on the hood of your car.

Anyways, to those who think the pistol/sr combo is the cats ass, you're totally missing out on a bucketload of fun. There's nothing more magical that nearing the *whoosh!* of a jet of flame lancing out from the nozzle of my flamer. The horrid death wails as my enemies get turned into blackened piles of ash and molten armor. The satisfying *Pop!* as his ammunition cooks off. (That would've made an awesome effect. too bad bungie didn't think to put it in) Of course I can only imagine the last two. But the first ones still great.

I may have a differing opinion on what "skill" is. But ask yourself this. Who'se the noob: The one wielding flamer? Or the one getting fried by it? I tend to drift towards the latter.

*Note: I had to f**king post this twice because the frickin Bungie forums popped me back to the main Bungie page when I hit Submit the first time.*

This is exactly my point: You're facing someone who's been able to kill you in pistol fighting the last three times, and you're not going to magically get a kill the next time round probably. What do you do? Keep running right into their face and get killed again? Or do you change tactics and lure him through a teleporter and fry him? Maybe sneak up around the back and get a good grenade hit in first, and finish him off? Get someone to distract him and catch him in the flank?

There are quite a few players who are better than me in a pistol/sniper matchup, but they're still beatable with better tactics.

Flamethrower is pretty much the sword, easily counterable if you expect it, but devastating if unexpected. Also both are a risk to the user, because it's easy to spot a shining sword/flames, and you can mess up a lunge/burn yourself. That's the best way I've been able to explain it.
