I’ve been playing Halo PC since it was released in November of 2003 and although I understand that you’re focusing much of your energies on Halo 2 and your upcoming projects I’d like to take this opportunity to express some very important issues. So please bear with me as I try to explain my point of view. I belong to a Halo PC clan called [XK] and the clan in itself makes the playing experience much more entertaining for I am able to play with people that share common interests.
There is a rapid decline in participation within the Halo PC community; that of people playing and people adhering to enjoy this classic first person shooter. It seems to me that you guys have lost complete interest in Halo PC, for the lack of security updates amongst other critical elements. It is difficult to understand this ‘lack of interest’ for we both know that Halo is the reason why Bungie is now considered to be a company to make exceptional videogames. I find it quite disappointing for you to abandon the game that made your company popular, moreover, recognized globally. In addition, I think that you should be considerate to those players that participate in Halo PC and do something about the problems that are occurring in the game, such as cheats, explicitly “aim-botting.” I am not the only one to address the concerns but hopefully with more people like myself expressing our concerns action may be taken to improve this dying community.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Paul Fiskratti
Still seems like 3,000 players on average to me, as it was two years ago. Though I can't say I'm not surprised. Considering the travesty of the port (as in the net code), the only reason why people still play it is because it's one of the two ways to play Halo: Combat Evolved online (the latter being a much more complicated process with just about the same sort of online lag). The game is not God; there are plenty of other games out there that many at this board consider better. The game is now five years old and you honestly expect people to still be content with the same content and gameplay for five years to not recognize anything else?
Yes, I am a fan of Halo, as we all are, but be realistic. What is left to talk about a four year old port? Halo Custom Edition is what makes the game so much better because of the custom content, yet you only find, on average, about 150 people playing Halo Custom Edition, which the majority are either playing Bungie maps or vehicle maps (Hugeass, Coldsnap, and all those other novelties). They aren't even playing the true and great maps that even Bungie themselves would have to take a double take to see if it's forgotten map development they abandonded. That's what you should complain about. 150 people and declining as we speak play Halo Custom Edition, yet halomaps.org recieves hundreds of thousands of downloads every week. Hundreds of thousands does not translate to 150 people. Something is obviously wrong here, and the answer is obviously the server cycles and not being able to play the maps unless having it first. At least for H2V Bungie has addressed that problem and is giving some thought into being able to download the custom content as you join the server, as you would do for today's games like HL2:D, or CS:S, or F.E.A.R.
In the end, Halo PC isn't dying; as far as the gaming community as a whole is concerned, it has been dead for quite some time. Hell, it's most popularly known for the aimbot. Go ahead and search "aimbot" in YouTube and look at your top choices. Not only has the gaming community abandoned it but so has its "creators" as well. It's time to move on.
