The problem lies in "passing the buck." Bungie employees work on the Xbox side of things, I doubt a single person who developed Halo in the late 90s even works there anymore.

Gearbox ported the game and now Bungie is so removed from the project they probably don't even have the developers there to do anything about it.

I'm sure there are a few Gearbox employees that play Halo PC, but no Bungie employee plays it. And that is the fundamental problem. Bungie has no stake in the game anymore because the Bungie that you all think you know is just Microsoft now.

Halo PC is probably the most pure FPS shooter ever made, but when you have no emotional stake in the game, there is no reason to keep it shiny. Bungie, aka Microsoft, just doesn't care and never will. It would take some of the original developers from Gearbox to do anything at all at this point.

The really disgusting part of the whole thing is that most of the nasty stuff happens on Bungie's own servers. It would be embarrassing if anyone were actually paying attention.

That's Microsoft for you. Only out to make money wherever it can. Moves on to the next project, leaving everything behind, and forcing people to spend more money just to keep up. Ridiculous.

I don't know, I've seen over 150 people online almost every time I get on the game..unless you're expecting 1000+ people to ignore H2 live?

Um, maybe Microsoft is only out to make money because it's a company. Ever heard of a little thing called Capitalism? We live in an obsolescent society crap-for-brains. Meaning that the things we buy are designed to wear out and become obsolete. Therefore forcing us to purchase new things. It's not a new concept. And it's not restricted only to Microsoft.

Ever wonder why your mommy and daddy have to buy a new car every few years? Even when a car from the '70's is still going strong?

Or how bout when they have to change a light bulb every six months? Even though they could last a lot longer than that.

A computer is a luxury, not a necessity. You don't HAVE to buy one, and you don't HAVE to buy from Microsoft.

Same with cell phones, which seem to be permanently attached to some of you young kids ears. Have fun with your lowered sperm counts and testicular cancer by the way.

Somewhat Harsh, but very true indeed.

It's called economics guys, plain and simple, it's a marketing technique. In terms of buying Vista for Halo 2. They make Vista and they want kids to buy so what do they do? They release a game that they WANT. What do they do, they bug their parents to buy a for that game. Now who are you buying that computer from? YOU buy it from THE SAME PEOPLE you buy THE GAME, and OPERATING SYSTEM FROM! They stand to make more money. Microsoft is a buisness not a -blam!- charity. However, I wouldn't put past disagreeing that microsoft is a monopoly even though monopolies are illegal. You see we say there aren't a monopoly and they have somehow won countless court cases against them. But think about it, besides apple who provides the new technology that we find ourselves buying every 5 years? MICROSOFT! No one else even tries to make it because they know they can't beat microsoft's expert team nor their ability to quickly mass produce. You see this was not an intentiol action by microsoft, or was it. Other companies could try and trump microsoft but how far would they get? Not far before Microsoft blows them out of the water. Microsoft does not want someone to rise above them, so they keep their defenses WAY UP and keep dishing out new and very much desired technology with great advertising and marketing plans. What are we too do? Boycott? LOL good luck but you will be without.

Same with Walmart, they make BILLIONS of dollars A DAY!! Do you think they really want someone beating them? No they keep their defesnes up with great deals and ability to sell mulitple generes of products for low prices. They somehow mass organize and arrange MULITPLE products, how many other stores can you go to and get PREETY MUCH ANYTHING YOU WANT! Not very many, and how many of those stores sell those products for low prices, can you count them on more than one hand? Somehow they market multiple products, for low prices without losing money. DO YOU THINK THEY REALLY WANT TO LOSE THAT? No they will keep devising new forms of marketing and other stragedies to keep their products in high demand over the competitors.

Even though it is considered illegal for any one corporation or company to completely cover any one form of market, you can't believe that in about 25 years our society won't be dominated by a few very powerful corportions. Small buisnesses are in for one hell of a uphill battle.

Capitalism doesn't always mean [grind the consumer's face in the fact that they have to buy their shite products and laugh at them]. There's such things as producing quality goods to build up good customer relations and this thing called, say, pride? (Example in the computer game world: Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion).
Of course, there is the complete opposite where crap does sell, not as well, but some people still buy it. (Example: The Sims 2 latest addon pack, whatever it is)

Clearly Microsoft etc being a mostly monopoly on computer O/S is leaning towards one side, but guess what? Microsoft computer games ARE NOT A MONOPOLY! Capitalism also involves actually producing goods that are more desirable than other companies, and guess what? As computer games are a luxury as you said, their only selling point IS THEIR QUALITY! Which gives us perfectly good rights to complain about the quality of service we're getting.

Man, I ranted all over the forum again. About economics, too X_X

Gaming Systems:
Intel Core i7 720QM (4 cores, 8 threads)
4Gb DDR3-1333mhz
1Gb AMD Radeon HD 4650
Windows 7 64bit

Xbox 360 w/ 20Gb HDD (2008 edition) & XBL Gold.

"A computer is a luxury, not a necessity."

That's not really true anymore. You would often find yourself in a mess without a computer + the internet these days. I heard on the radio the other day this woman wanting to enter a competition, but should couldn't because she didn't have the internet. I know for a fact that the elderly people of the western world are described as in "Technological Poverty" if they do not have access to a computer or the internet. This "Technological Divide" is becoming a really really big issue now, and governments (in the UK at least) are setting up aid schemes to try and help people without access to computers. A computer is as necessary as an fridge these days.

I remember when i got halo PC, probably three years ago now! I remember there was about upwards of 62 pages of servers with people in them, that like 500+ servers if I'm correct. Now i have lost a lot of interest in Halo PC becuase most servers are all Heavy Weapons, or Snipers no shields, and frankly i really hate toughs game types (my opinion). But if it weren't for i probably would never have played video games. Never met a lot of cool people... which i guess would have been a good thing.. but w/e :P

All rockets, or all snipers is my kinda game...but usually when you play a snipers only match, there are insane people who kill you each and every second...rockets is a little better..but now there's pretty much just horrible players, horrible players that yell and swear a lot, and then total experts..I think it's still a fun game, but obviously it won't be played all the time like it was three years ago..

Bungie and Microsoft didn't totally forget Halo PC. Sure, there are not any more updates but that is more of Gearbox's fault. Bungie and ms saw that there was still demand for Halo PC. Enough gamers have written to Microsoft and Bungie begging for Halo 2 PC, that Microsoft saw a potential market for Halo 2 PC. If Microsoft had forgotten about Halo PC, then they wouldn't even think about making Halo 2 for the PC. That and Microsoft wants people to buy the Vista. So what better way to get PC gamers to buy Vista than putting H2 for the Vista. It's a marketing gig as we all know, but it is time to move on. Halo 1 PC may be dying, but a new era will be born. H2V is a fresh start from for Halo PC. Now Microsoft can learn from and improve on Halo 1's flaws. We can make it better than it was before. And hopefully, create a new and better playing experience for all. Halo is ending. H2V is beginning.

Oh, so it was absolutely, positively, life threateningly necessary for this lady to enter this contest? Ya, sure.

And to all you people who think Microsoft makes crap products, you are wrong. Microsoft does make a lot of quality programs. If they didn't, do you think people would buy them? I've used microsoft products for a long time, And I've had little in the way of problems that couldn't have been fixed by a little intelligence. You people just bash Microsoft because you think it's cool. So go ahead and jump on the "Let's bash Microsoft" bandwagon, and have fun you conformist pigs.

I don't understand why everybody must bash Microsoft so. They've made so many great products, why hate it?

Dude, he doesn't even runs the company anymore. He certainly doesn't work on any of the software.

You're just mad because you aren't even a quarter of the man he is.

He's not only stinkin rich, he's also a philanthropist and a humanitarian.

You people want to know what made Microsoft what is is today? I got one word, two numbers, and a period for you:

Windows 3.0

If you were alive back then, and I'm sure most of you weren't, then you'll know what I'm talking about.

LOL I remember playing Mechwarrior 2 on Windows 3.1. That game was OFF THE HOOK! I wish I could play it on XP... :(

Anyway, it's not really fair in my opinion. Halo PC, as I see it, is far from complete, but Gearbox shipped it out anyway and hoped for the best. Now everyone's buzzing about Halo 2, Bungie's oh-so-great sequel with noobtactular gameplay. Halo 2 MP could never be half as goos as Halo MP, but it still managed to hook all the auto-aim loving noobcakes, and thusly destroyed any chance of Halo PC having a really good player count.

I'm not saying Halo PC is DEAD, though, not by a long shot. You can still fire up the game and have plenty of servers to choose from with a ping under 30, even at 3 AM. You wanna see dead? Boot up Far Cry and try to find a server. You'll be lucky to find one with more than 2 people and a ping under 300.

The solution is simple: Microsoft/Gearbox could fix this game and give us the game that was so hyped about before its release. But they won't, cause they don't care about you. They just care about your green.

If they cared so much about our green, they should just put a slight extra bit of effort in and fully overhaul the entire game engine and netcode. XD

OMG! Mechwarrior 2 was the second greatest game in the history of PC gaming. The GBL expansion was even better. I wish they'd make a decent Mechwarrior game that actually captured the feel of stomping around in a 75 ton walking machine of death.

there are some common explenations for this like. the underaged teens that make up the majority of halo pc are now whining and balling to their parents for one of the new game systems and have stopped playing halo pc because their parents got them a new system.

another reason could be school, stds, cancer, underaged teens got mad at losing and crushed their computer electicuting themselves (i wished =) ) these could all be answers to the stunning loss of halo pc.
