"Well, that's Gamespy, and Medal of Honor. This is Bungie, and Halo. What's good for Medal of Honor doesn't mean it's going to happen to Halo. Sorry Grandpa, it ain't gunna happen."

Well, looks like I'll try Gearbox. And unless you're 40 something TUI_Obi_Wan, then I am old enough. Sorry SNERT, looks like petition time if Gearbox don't work out.

That's all I have to say about that, so go watch some star wars or star trek or whatever geek boy.

Doesn't that make you a little old to be playing video games? and posting on video game forums? Unless you looking for some fresh boybait. Really now, How old are you? I'm having some trouble figuring it out. You claim to be old enough to be my father, and yet you're about as mature as my 2 year old cousin.

Oh, and complaining at the gearbox's forums isn't going to do -blam!- for you. And you honestly think petitioning is going to help? You're seriously deluded if you think that. The rest of us have learned to live with the crap online. But go ahead and try, for all the good it will do you.

Now, I'm done with this. Go ahead and call me a geek, I don't care. At least I have better things to do with my time than whining about something I can't change.

If Halo is dying then Halo Custom Edition is dead. All you see is:
Server name map
Halo H2_Zanzibar 0/16
Stunts Coldsnap 1/8
Nonoobs Immure2 6/10
crappy Hang'em'higher 0/4

Oh, caps are the worse thing on earth.

Whatever.

Now, I did contact Gearbox and this is what they said:

The chance of another patch is extremely remote. Microsoft would have
to request this of Gearbox or develop it themselves. It is unlikely that
Microsoft will be interested in doing this since their focus is now on
newer versions of Halo. Although it is good customer relations to put
out patches, there is a window of opportunity for this that usually
only lasts a few months. I myself started at Gearbox Software over two years
ago and that is well after Halo PC released. I had nothing to do with
Halo PC and over 70% of Gearbox is in the same boat. All the developers
that worked on Halo PC are now busy with other projects so it really
would take a move by Microsoft to get a new patch out at this late date.

Well, "Microsoft" that figures. Looks like this "immature" old man (not) will have to put up with adolescent idiots after all.

I have played Halo PC for long enough to become the best player in my school. Unfortunately, I am limited in my abilities by the amount of lag that servers (yes even dedicated servers) put out. This has led me to play more and more and LAN parties (at my house, cause I have the best Internet among my buddies) where we are restricted to the lag on our PC's rather than the connection speed. Even when we set up a computer as a LAN dedicated server, lag is imminent.

Looking at RRob's latest post, though, makes me doubt that anything will be done about it. Also, I have been playing Halo CE for some time now and feel it is prudent to comment that, yes, we desperately need more people. Without them, it will continue to suck more and more.

All I want to know is, will they just leave us to gasp our last breath's, or save us with a much needed update to better streamline the game?

Well Regata, It looks like microsoft probably won't do anything anymore, so I'm not even gonna ask them , lol. I don't know why people think a game is old when it gets a few years old. It's probably the only version of (let's say) any old game, so I say play as long as you can.

I still play a certain PC game from 1999, and I don't care how old it gets.

Well, besides hosting my own server (which nobody will join) is to find somebody to make an anti-cheat/hack program. Some dude made one for medal of honor. I'll try to find somebody that'll make one for halo.

I’ve been playing Halo PC since it was released in November of 2003 and although I understand that you’re focusing much of your energies on Halo 2 and your upcoming projects I’d like to take this opportunity to express some very important issues. So please bear with me as I try to explain my point of view. I belong to a Halo PC clan called [XK] and the clan in itself makes the playing experience much more entertaining for I am able to play with people that share common interests.
There is a rapid decline in participation within the Halo PC community; that of people playing and people adhering to enjoy this classic first person shooter. It seems to me that you guys have lost complete interest in Halo PC, for the lack of security updates amongst other critical elements. It is difficult to understand this ‘lack of interest’ for we both know that Halo is the reason why Bungie is now considered to be a company to make exceptional videogames. I find it quite disappointing for you to abandon the game that made your company popular, moreover, recognized globally. In addition, I think that you should be considerate to those players that participate in Halo PC and do something about the problems that are occurring in the game, such as cheats, explicitly “aim-botting.” I am not the only one to address the concerns but hopefully with more people like myself expressing our concerns action may be taken to improve this dying community.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Paul Fiskratti

Though your request is noble, I am afraid it is futile, Sir Fiskratti. Bungie and Gearbox have long pulled the plug on Halo PC, in terms of support for the game.

People may have their opinions, but Halo was in ways a fudged up port. The game taxes more on computers than it should. The netcode is outdated and it forces players to lead their shots. Since many players don't like to lead their shots, they decided not to play Halo PC anymore and play, dare I say it, better games.

There are so many games out there that are significantly superior to Halo PC, in terms of graphics, gameplay, story, etc. And that's just counting first-person shooters. I love my Halo, but there are many other games that I like more. Give me some F.E.A.R. over Halo I won't mind. It's a sad fact, but Halo PC is indeed dying. There's nothing we can do to stop it I'm afraid.

Hey man, Halo: Combat Evolved is a classic. I just got back into it today. I started playing Halo: Combat Evolved since it debuted on the XBOX, and yes I love Halo 2 and all, but theres something about the online capabilitys of this game that makes it Legendary man. I guess im a "noob" but at the same time im not in the sense that I know all the weapons/maps since I played this game to death on the XBOX. Now, its got a new life on my laptop. If we want Halo PC to live on, that just means we gotta put more time into the games. Game on man!

Combat Evolved isn't old..........It's a 2003 game. If I recall, a LOT of people still play the old Doom games, and they don't refer to those as outdated games. The only reason Halo is being referred to as "old" is because the cequils are coming way to fast.

way too fast!?!? it's taken them forever to release halo 2. also its been a while b4 they will release halo 3. and they still have yet to release halo 2 for vista. the sequels don't come fast. halo pc is considered old because a console takes a lot longer before it becomes obsolete. computers on the other hand, are outdated the month after its new.

1st off Ive been owning since 2003. Im one of the best there IS (1v1 me if you dont believe me tgsmaverick9437 is my xfire). and you all are poopy j/k j/k j/k j/k.

Anyway I fully agree with you. Halo Pc has basically been left as roadkill on the side of the highway, and the MAC verisons even worse. We gotta do all we can to comvince bungie to make H2V as good, If not better, than H2 Xbox.

Alrighty, cool.

I have contacted a few places for a anti cheat/hack (TK) program but no responce yet. I guess they'll only deal with the game maker(s) themselves. Oh well, I tried.

Wow man, 1997? And they call me the "old man" lolol.

I havn't played against a hacker in Halo PC ever, I guess I'm lucky lol.

Halo PC is NOT dying, there is still a lot of people playing it, sure Halo 2 has a lot more, but Halo PC is still its good old self :)
I just started playing it again after a Halo 1 lan party, and I like it a lot more than Halo 2 again.

Anyone who runs a popular Halo server should be able to tell you that there is still a very healthy number of players online.

As the guy who manages the RP server (Red Phoenix Clan - Clean - Be Nice!), I can tell you that we have had more than 750 unique CD keys banned from our server (most of those autobans) since November 18. That, of course, does not include the majority of players (who don't get autobanned in the first place)!

If Halo PC actually sophisticated build-in logging like Halo CE, I could give you an exact number of players who have played in our server in the past month. Unfortunately, Halo PC doesn't have any built-in logging.

As a final note, I can also tell you that we've discussed Halo 2 PC on our clan forums, and most RPs plan to continue playing Halo PC at least until Halo 3 PC is released, because we're disappointed with Halo 2's multiplayer. Of course, we also have several members who play on Macs, and we wouldn't want them to get bored playing by themselves!
