hi, have been a long time player of Halo. However, I've reformatted everything on my HD, so when i go to install Halo again (PC edition), it gave me this:

'Halo Setup encountereda disk error while writing to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Games\Halo\maps\sound.map. Make sure your hard drive is not full, and that the file is not in use'

My hard drive isn't full, since i still have about 50GB left (out of a total of 80GB), and I'm not accessing that file either. it would freeze at 79%, then ask me to retry or cancel. Help!

Ah, I think I know what's going on.

Restart your computer and let the first thing you do is attempt to install the game. If it doesn't work as it should, then it means your CD-ROM either has corrupted files and/or is scratched. In either case, you may have to buy a new game, or if it's the latter, try and get the problem taken care of at a local electronics store that may sell CD-repair kits or ones that provide restoration services for CDs.

Right, go download the Halo movie before it's even out while you're at it. Be quiet.

Open up your task manager (Ctrl+alt+delete) and check to see if there are any precesses named "halo.exe" or "halo". If there are, kill them. If there aren't, kill everything except explorer and try again. If that doesn't work, try installing via DOS (is that possible?) if that doesn't work, buy new game. Also, see if you can access all files strait from the CD without installing, and try to install from there. Mine has done that before, too.

If he owns the game, I don't think its illegal to download a working copy since he has a licence to use it.

It's still not a real smart idea to advocate downloading a copyrighted game off the internet. Especially on the developers website. That's some real muddy legal waters.

I wonder if the Wolf thinks the Moon listens when he howls at it.

Jezz is as far as I know, legal if you own the game in the first place! Find something that proves me wrong.

QFGDMFT!!!

Dude, it's still illegal to download a copyrighted game, off bittorrent for example, because the person who put the game up there in the first place is commiting a crime, and everyone who downloads it is an accessory to the crime. It gives him a reason to rip these games and put them up on the net.

When you "buy" a game you buy a "licence" to use it, as far as I know. Maybe its different in the states? Therefore can be downloaded assuming you bought it, and the licence (obviously). If I'm wrong (good chance, I'm not always right) its not like downloading something you technically own is murder or anything.

Can that make it any clearer for you, dude?

Dude, doing that violates the End User Licence Agreement. You MAY NOT do that kind of thing legally, unless you somehow had written consent straight from the company that made it.

Darth Gates, the ruler of Micro$ith, is the mightiest of the dark side.

No, but seriously, even if you own the game, it's still wrong to download it online.

Now, here's the lesson Blasphemy: Just because you find it on the internet doesn't mean it's yours to keep and do with as you please.

Well if you are right, just think to yourself for a second. He payed for a game, and can't play because it is scratched. To me, downloading would be perfectly acceptable in my moral standards.

..Just saying..

I see your point, but then you're just like the people on Xbox Live who think it's okay to bridge to be the host and thus cheat to prevent others from cheating, even though it is still against the rules, whether you're trying to prevent cheaters from cheating or not, it's still wrong, and against the rules.

Add me to your friends list if you haven't already. It's a lot more fun to play with people from The Maw and people I know than random noobs.

I would consider it acceptible too but it's still illegal. Just because you bought the game, then illeagally downloaded it doesn't keep the bloodthirsty lawers who make enough money to feed thousands of starving people from a lawsuit.

Downloading something you already paid for, and disrupting gameplay and annoying others is quite different ;)

Anyway I'll end this now, it comes down to opinion, whats right and wrong so I'll leave it at that.

Actually I believe a little while back a company went after someone who downloaded a movie, in a different format for which they had already bought in a shop. They didn't know he had the licence to use it, so I guess it is OK after all because I never heard if he was prosecuted.
