I don't think you realize that consoles are more user-friendly, and that there is almost a computer in nearly every household in America. Since they aren't really meant for gaming like the $2000 PCs you mentioned, most of the computers that people are playing with are hand-me-downs or still belong to the parents. They didn't have to pay a damn thing for it, they just paid for the copy of Halo PC. Now, since they didn't get the money to buy their computer, what the hell makes you think that they can afford a $400 console?
My computer was only $400....
.... <jk>and it even came with the best processor in the world! (Celeron)</jk>
But in any case, I'm much more computer hardware literate than I used to be. A good computer does not cost $2000, unless you want like sweet lighting, an uber-cool expensive case, a 500+ GB hard drive, a million fans, hyper-insane $500 graphics cards that no one needs, etc etc.

BTW: Anyone here ever tried playing the Sims 2 on Xbox? It's freakin impossible to make a decent house using a controller.
Ugh, indeed. That shows all they're really trying to do is make some easy dollars off of it. A game will only go so far without decent controls. Hopefully Halo Wars won't end the same way. I hope I've made my point.
Actually I've been wondering about that: how well will an RTS really work on a controller? I wonder if Microsoft will release like... a KB/M for the 360 that could be used with certain games...? er somethin. *shrugs*
