Ok, when I heard about the PC version of Halo 2 and looked at it's screenshots the first thing that came to mind was "It's the same as the Xbox version!". Seriously, does Bungie REALLY expect us to buy the same game but on a computer? Unless there's features on that game that you can't find on the Xbox version, I'm staying with my Xbox version......

So my question is this: Is gettin Halo 2 Vista (and the OS) really worth it?

  • 11.28.2006 2:23 PM PDT

What it is.

have you not looked at the recent screens? like the ones from september, you can tell they have changed it greatly, just by the shaders and lighting, it looks so much more smooth and crisp...

Many people including yourself need to realize that the game is not just intended for the Xbox/Halo fanbois, but the PC gamers as well. There's a multitude of gamers who never liked Halo because of the fact they were originally console games, and thus you had to play with a controller, which many prefer not to use, as it's a huge gimp to PC gamers. Now, they can finally enjoy the Halo series without using gamepads. You need to realize that.

Also, you need to pay much more attention to the screenshots. Notice the gigantic resolution, and the improved graphics. Yes, they aren't that significant, as there are huge jaggies in need of some serious anti-aliasing, but keep in mind it's a freaking early build. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you shouldn't be in a PC gaming forum, dude.

If you're not going to get Halo 2, then Windows Vista is sure as hell worth getting. With all the awesome new games that are coming soon to Windows Vista, and with DirectX 10 arriving next year, Games for Windows on the latest high-end PCs will make the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 look like eight bit baby toys.

That's all there is to it folks.

To the topic creator: I'm not so excited about Halo2 Vista as well, but I do want Windows Vista OS very badly. And besides, Halo2V isn't the ONLY game coming out for the new OS, IMO, Xbox version or not, Halo2 sucks, and will always suck. =P

Is this poll really worth the bandwidth it uses? No.

Bungie doesn't expect you to buy the game. They're making a product, and whether you buy it or not is your choice. If you already have the game for Xbox, then there's not much point in buying the game for PC. Unless you really want to. Halo2Vista is for people that either don't own a console, or prefer to use a PC.

So quit your bi*chin, no one wants to hear it.

Or people who owns both Halo 2 and an Xbox, but doesn't have Xbox Live, or for people who hates the auto-aim (which I doubt).

So what if it has a few grapical tweaks? SO WHAT?? Unless it has something MAJOR in it (Like new maps, weapons, etc.), then getting the PC version of Halo 2 is a waste of money...

P.S: Getting the OS is also a waste of money (due to the fact that when you install it, most programs that would work for Windows XP or earlier won't work at all on Vista)

Well, The more I know about it, the less enthusiastic I get. Live Anywhere! Do we have to pay for it? I don't know. Is it required for online? I don't know, I don't like the live anywhere idea if I have to pay, and the thing that makes Halo 2 fun over a long period of time is the multiplayer. Then I think about Vista.

Damn, the basic version probably sucks, Home Premium looks good, but Ultimate has the features people who play games want. An upgrade to ultimate is like $300+, which is money I don't have to just spend all at once. I'm starting to think Halo 2 Vista will just end up as a nice little add on for when people eventually get their upgrade to Vista.

Well then don't buy it. Is that such a strange concept? No one's making you shell out the money for Vista or Halo 2.

You fail to realize that Vista is the next step in OS design. Like going from 3.1 to '95. If you want to live in the past like some relic of the last century that is your business.

You could give me a 360 and Halo3 and I would not play it because of the controller.

Maybe because this is a PC forum. If we wanted to talk about Xbox we'd go to New Mombasa.

That's two words, and I've got words for you: Halo 3 only works for the Xbox 360.

Seriously, you need to get a brain before you say stupid stuff. There aren't going to be new maps or weapons from what we've heard so far, but there's going to be a God damned map editor, and the HPC modding community is eager to get their hands on Halo 2 for the computer.

Also, Windows XP is an outdated piece of crap, and Windows Vista is significantly improved if you knew anything about computers. Who the hell said that most programs wouldn't work on Vista? Who? Give me a link. Even if what you say is true, which I don't totally doubt, Microsoft could always create backwards compatibility updates for such programs. Seriously, before you say what you think, think!

A map editor? Sweet. I may consider it........

Anyways, since the Vista is using 64-bit arcitecture (I think) it will be like Windows NT when it was realeased (Since it used 32-bit and not 16-bit a lot of programs that would work on a 16-bit system wouldn't work at all on Windows NT). Trust me. I used Window XP Pro 64-bit (uses a 64-bit arcitecture, like Vista) and most of my programs didn't work on it. Yes, I understand XP is a peice of crap but I'm not upgrading if a lot of my programs won't work at all on it....

Trailer Park Boys ~ One of the best Canadian made comedies ever.

I think it won't be worth the "rush" everyone is hoping for. The mapping equipment seems to "simple", and is designed for noobies, than experienced mapper. Give it a few months after a release, and alot better mapping program should be availabable by a codder, or a programmer. Before then, custom content will generally suck.

CovenantSlayer, you're missing many things. You must've not played Halo PC much? Or at least not Halo CE?

1) New maps are probably going to be there. Possibly the same ones the 360 users will get soon.
2) Users can create maps.. Loads of custom content there.
3) Users can create weapons and vehicles. Again, more content.
4) Some people enjoy PC games only, this is their chance to play Halo 2 the way they want to play it.

The list goes on and on. You're being a bit naive saying it has nothing new to offer.

Rezener, You've not used the mapping tools yet. You don't know enough to say that. Besides that, most content, whether the tools are complex or simple, will suck. But there's always the shining stars in there, who can actually make decent maps.. *cough*

H2V is definatly going to be worth it. There will be beter graphics, a map editer, and several other fetures that will make it worth every penny. And Vista is also worth the upgrade.
