Why not just by a god-damn xbox? One word: Halo 3
That's two words, and I've got words for you: Halo 3 only works for the Xbox 360.

So what if it has a few grapical tweaks? SO WHAT?? Unless it has something MAJOR in it (Like new maps, weapons, etc.), then getting the PC version of Halo 2 is a waste of money...
P.S: Getting the OS is also a waste of money (due to the fact that when you install it, most programs that would work for Windows XP or earlier won't work at all on Vista)
Seriously, you need to get a brain before you say stupid stuff. There aren't going to be new maps or weapons from what we've heard so far, but there's going to be a God damned map editor, and the HPC modding community is eager to get their hands on Halo 2 for the computer.
Also, Windows XP is an outdated piece of crap, and Windows Vista is significantly improved if you knew anything about computers. Who the hell said that most programs wouldn't work on Vista? Who? Give me a link. Even if what you say is true, which I don't totally doubt, Microsoft could always create backwards compatibility updates for such programs. Seriously, before you say what you think, think!
A map editor? Sweet. I may consider it........
Anyways, since the Vista is using 64-bit arcitecture (I think) it will be like Windows NT when it was realeased (Since it used 32-bit and not 16-bit a lot of programs that would work on a 16-bit system wouldn't work at all on Windows NT). Trust me. I used Window XP Pro 64-bit (uses a 64-bit arcitecture, like Vista) and most of my programs didn't work on it. Yes, I understand XP is a peice of crap but I'm not upgrading if a lot of my programs won't work at all on it....
you'll need 3rd party tools to use HEK 2.0. the crew at bungie uses 3rd party tools... if you're an experienced HEK user, you'll need to polish your skills in HEK 2.0
first of all... h2v is going to have modding tools availiable, making user-made levels, and ingame content
second, you'll upgrade to vista sooner or later, so why not sooner than later
third, vista is a WAY better os than XP. it features better connectivity than xp ever has, it explores the internet for newer drivers (not just your computer like xp) it has better parental and administration controls making your computer more secure and with the latest version--msdn RTM, you can try it out via filesharing for 30 days. vista also has backwards compatibility with xp, it has a file transfer wizard and it also has a compatibility wizard, that allows you to run programs at different system settings. there are a few programs that are still incompatible here are some solutions:
symantec antivirus corp 10.0-get symantec antivirus corp 10.2-fileshare
zbrush-i still cant figure this one out
aim 5.0, triton, pro, ect..-get aim6.0
some games have patches
*note* you'll need photoshop and 3dsmax for the new halo editing tools
