Ok, now that I got my first dedicated server good to go, I tried joining it and it works well (Oh and I proved all of you nubs who thought you can't join your own IP DS wrong!!! puhahaha!!!). But after a good game with 5-6 others, I decided to do more testing, so I logged out, and this time, I put in custom gametypes in sv_add_mapcycle. I'm not really sure how to properly put in custom gametypes, so I probably made a fatal mistake, because when I try to join my DS this time, it won't let me in! And to make it all worse, I couldn't join any other random servers, and as a final kill-or-be-killed test, I tried joining the Maw server, and since that won't let me in, I know for sure it's not server-wise. For 2 whole hours, I try different ways possible to get in the custom gametypes in the init.txt file right, but everytime I start up the DS and start Halo, I can't join squat. Finally out of desperation, I X out the DS program, and join Halo then, and bam, I can join servers again. Anyone know what's going on? I have a free day tommorow (I was sick today, so I don't have to go to school for the rest of the week), and I'm really tired and exhausted from my sickness now, so until I sign back on b.net tommorow, I hope a lot of you posted suggestions, diagnostics, error-cures, etc.

Thank you guys in advance. 'Night.

Why don't you reset the server with default gametypes, to start, then *reads readme*...read and apply:

Posted by: Halo Dedicated Server Readme

[things I see as important are in bold]
Halo Dedicated Server uses init.txt file (located in the installation directory) to pre-set some of the server options and setup map cycling. Any console command can be invoked in the init.txt file (see Console Commands below for a list of available console commands).

For example, to launch a server with the following parameters:
· Name: “Halo_DS”
· Listed on the GameSpy Master Server list? Yes
· Maximum number players: 12
· Password: “halo”
· Timeout between maps rotations: 15 seconds

Create the following init.txt file:

sv_name Halo_DS
sv_public True
sv_maxplayers 12
sv_password halo
sv_mapcycle_timeout 15

To setup map cycling, you need to create a game entries map cycling list (a game entry is a map name and a game type). To do so, simply use the sv_mapcycle_add command in the init.txt file.

For example, to have the following maps and game types cycle:
· Timberland CTF
· Danger Canyon Assault
· Gephyrophobia Slayer
· Blood Gulch Crazy King

Add the following lines to the init.txt file:

sv_mapcycle_add timberland CTF
sv_mapcycle_add dangercanyon assault
sv_mapcycle_add gephyrophobia slayer
sv_mapcycle_add bloodgulch "crazy king"

Then, to start the dedicated server, use the following command: sv_mapcycle_begin.

Every time you launch haloded.exe, it will look for init.txt for initialization (unless you specify a different file using –exec. See below for more details on –exec).

For the previous example, the final init.txt file would look like this:

sv_name Halo_DS
sv_public True
sv_maxplayers 12
sv_password halo
sv_mapcycle_timeout 15
sv_mapcycle_add timberland CTF
sv_mapcycle_add dangercanyon assault
sv_mapcycle_add gephyrophobia slayer
sv_mapcycle_add bloodgulch "crazy king"
sv_mapcycle_begin

The default game types available are the following:

oddball
slayer
juggernaut
king
crazy king
race
ctf
assault
team slayer
team oddball
team race

Classic game variants are also supported as default game types (check out the retail version of Halo for a list of all classic game variants).

You can create custom game types (using the full retail version of Halo) and include these game types on your server rotation. This would enable you, for example, to include a Rockets only game on your server rotation. To do so, follow these steps:

* Launch the full retail version of Halo.
* Under Multiplayer, choose Edit Game Types.
* Create a new game type (refer to the Halo documentation if you need help to do this).
* Save your new game type.
* Quit Halo.
* Open your Halo save games folder (by default, this would be “My Documents\My Games\Halo\savegames”).
* You will see the name of the custom game type you created as a folder directory.
* Make sure this folder is available on your server (in the same location on disk).
* Use the name of your custom game type in your mapcycle.txt file.

With this release, the dedicated server is dependent on access to your save games folder. This will be addressed in an upcoming release.

Wow, I come back after 36 hours, and one post is all I get? Either no one really cares, or...no one really cares. I'll keep that in mind when someone else here needs help, and not post at all, I'll see how you guys like it.

Thank you very much, trekkie, for taking your time to try to help me out with this problem. And yeah, I probably read the readme.rtf a million times already, but I still don't get how to add custom gametypes to the init.txt command lines. I mean I get it, but I'm not sure if I have to add the folder of the gametypes, the folder of the whole savegames.exe or only the saved gametype files itself along with blam.lst. I'm a very visual person, I need to watch a video or see someone do it, before I understand something tricky. (Most of the times.)

And I also tried putting in default gametypes again, but the problem still continues. If I leave the DS on, I can't join ANY server, if I leave it off, I can join whatever server I want to be in. I'm really not sure what's going on, and it started happening after I put in the custom gametypes. Before adding them, the DS worked fine, my server joining abilities worked fine, etc. But I don't know how a supposed and temporary mistake in the init.txt file connects to servers/ports, etc.

Anyone else willing to help me out here? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry, but while you guys are posting in threads which sometimes really don't need much answering, none of you guys ever answer in a thread in which someone needs help in. The Maw is getting extremely filthy now, with people who respond to threads like "omg look at my m0nt@g3 dog5", but doesn't help people out.

Do you guys hate me? I see you guys posting on all types of threads 24/7 after I've posted this, and you guys are pretty much forcing this to go down to the 100th page, where no one will find it through all that chaos.

I really need help, I informed my clan members that we now have a dedicated server, and after everyone being all excited, I get a technical problem in less than an hour. I did everything I could, I even reinstalled Halo Server. =/ Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thank you for any future help ON THIS THREAD.

EDIT: And please, don't say the most obvious crap like "There's a reason to why no one is posting inyour thread.". There should be no reason whatsoever that no one in here has time to help another fellow Maw citizen, yet posts on repetetive threads like Igg's Halo2 Vista thread. (No offense Igg, I'm just using it as an example because it has lots of posts.)
