I would have to disagree with most of the players on this forum. Single weapon games make you better at using those weapons. Chaotic games like 16 player, FFA, Shotguns, 50% health, no shields (or Shotties as we like to call it in Apopka) develop your reaction times and give you better concentration. Annoying games like those with no friend indicators and ones with all invisible players serve their purposes as well. They give you better team skills and better combat skills, (if you can fight an invisible player effectively, there is no advantage at all for an enemy to grab it). These are far from pointless games and definately NOT horrible.
I find that the worst games fall into two catagories. 1) Those that are too long with no end in sight, and 2) those that are radically unbalanced in one way or another unless the teams are adjusted to fit (call me a pansy, but I hate having the odds stacked so hopelessly against me, and I hate beating a team that expects to lose, so games like that aren't fun for me either way). So, here I will list the WORST I can think of in both catagories.
1) Sidewinder, CTF, 15 captures,
16 players, instant respawn, no suicide penalty,
rifles, no vehicles, 200% health
(I think the only way to win would be to stay awake longer than the other team.)
2) -CTF, Chill Out especially or Rat Race/Damnation/even Hang 'Em High can be annoying
(I hate playing these levels unless the teams are set with better players on the worse base.)
-Chiron, CTF, when less than 25% of the players know the level at all
(Winning against lost enemies isn't nearly as gratifying as crushing confident opponents.)
3) Honorable mentions:
ANY Oddball game to 15 minutes, or with more than 4 balls and most Race games
(I personally don't enjoy them at all, but hey, that's just me.)
