anything on a huge level (sidewinder, blood gulch, boarding action) with only short range weapons sucks. it takes forever to get anywhere near close enough to kill. and when you do, you end up getting back bashed by the guy who was sneaking up on you.

16 players Team King of the hill...Invisible players, no friendly tags...no radar...Rockets only...50% health, no shields. Instant respawn time.

this would be exciting, except it took us all day to get a winner (the hill control time was 15 minutes) after the first 30 minutes, it got real boring, real quick.

THis was the game that my stupid frend made at a LAN party wen he got bored
Derelict
Team Slayer
Infinite Grenades
Pistols only
50%
Invisible Players
NO team indicators!!!
It was rily frustrating!!! Derelict is a rily dark map, and with invisble playas, its nearly impossible to see sum1 until u realise u ran into sumthing...you kill him... only to realise its your teamate!!
One of the funny things that happen was, two of my friends were on a team and they both said at the same time "i killed sum guy but he killed me!!"
With some thought i finally yelled out "you killed each other you idiots!!"

Its not that hard to get a LAN going, all as you need is a bit of CAT6 or Ethernet cable, two copies of halo, and two controlers, and two TVs!
In simple works go down to the local Computer store Ask for CAT6 cable. (you only need about a meter or 3 foot of cable) Its pritty cheap i got my cable for AU$8 (thats Australian dollars NOT U.S.) And bring your TV, your Xbox, controler, and cable around to a friend who also has halo on xbox, plug the cable in both xboxs ( and plug the rest of the wires in the right spot ) And voala! Get halo going and go muilti player then LAN (or that network thing)
And your cooking with gas!

>Any way WORST Game Type Ever, Free for all 400% health eta, Blood Gulch, 16 way, free for all, snipers only, and Only the Scorpin tank!

People in the tank kill every one and if one of them dies their is a scamble over the tank like chickens to bread!

Now hold on a second. Plasma weapons , or poo guns as my friends affectionetly call them, are really hard but fun to use. if you have a fast enough trigger finger, you can make the pistol poo gun shoot fast ter than the poo rifle, do that with about 4-8 players on hang em High and that I think is pretty fun, oh and no sheilds. sheilds are for wimps and -blam!-s.

Okay side winder 2 players invisible. Sniping weapons.

  • 06.02.2004 6:23 AM PDT

My little brother and his friend hosted Derelict CtF, 15 captures, invisible players against my friend and myself. That was definitely a surprise, and a frustrating game. Those lil' kids practice snipers w/ active camo a lot, so they're good at it. Luckily we beat 'em, or we'd never have lived it down.

When playing Halo on XBConnect
Any time a host makes a game with the following options, and doesn't inform anyone who joins, is really annoying:
- Health modification, plus or minus
- No shields, especially with something close-range like shotguns only
- Kill Penalty and Death Bonus on
- Custom weapon Slayer, except in Rat Race (where you get Generic start either way) Starting with only a plasma pistol or HE pistol with no grenades sucks when I'm playing on your host.
- Respawn growth
- Flag must return (damnit, most people play CtF with a returnable flag.)
- All vehicles CtF in Blood Gulch (most people play BG CtF: Hogs only, so let us know!)
- Hogs only CtF in Sidewinder (vice versa)

XBConnect should post a guideline on what games to make with what settings for the general public, and ask that anyone playing a "different" gametype to advertise appropriately. They won't, but it'd be cool.

Basicaly any invisible player type in a big level (Sidewinder) is horrible. When you finally find someone it's usually about who has luck or the shotgun. The shotgun has a wider spray so it's easier to hit someone.

Blood Gulch, invisible, snipers only, no radar, and the game type where you have to kill one specific person to get points (don't remember its name).

Probably the best ever is rockets only, regular health, on Longest. Typically, in a game of 8, about 2 mins is the most time spent on a single spawn...it was awesome.

Another one is Race, warthog, rockets, infinite grenades, 400% shields (i call it demolition derby)--try running the warthogs together as much as possible to see how high you can make them fly.

I'll agree with you all that there are good combination of game types and bad combinations. For example we were playing slayer with no shields and 50% health, a single shot in the head with a pistol would kill you. That's just lame.

But invisibility isn't always bad. I actually made a really fun game of Oddball (Juggernaut type) where everyone except for the "It" guy is invisible. The goal is to remain "It" for a certain time limit. When you die the person who kills you becomes it and so forth. Because the theme of this gametype is stealth I chose to get rid of vehicles (it works best in non-vehicle levels anyways) and I put a Nav point on the person whose "It" so that you can locate him easier. I was thinking of having just sniper weapons but after trying it out first hand I decided it would be best to include a variety of weapons. To even the odds against the person whose "It" (since everyone's gonna go after him) , he has high defense and runs faster than the other players. I didn't put any handicaps on the other players.

Does this sound like it would be interesting to you guys? I tried it with my friends and we actually had a pretty good time (we didn't play the vehicle-supported levels). I usually experiment with my game modes before trying them with my friends, to make sure that the options go along with the theme of the game mode. For example, if you have an all Sniper weapons game you don't want to be able to kill people with one shot but you don't want it to take more than one clip to take someone out. Me and my friend test them out ourselves before inviting our friends to try it out.

That's gonna be my philosophy for Halo 2: don't use a gametype unless you test it to make sure it works the way you want it to. And make sure it's fun! :)
