Still, it is one of the most accurate rifles in current warfare. Carbine or not, you can't accept the fact that Valve completely reduced accuracy and increased muzzle crazi-ness-icity (lol), just to give players a challenge, yet they don't realize that it was a horrible mistake doing so. Sort of like how Bungie relunctantly put in the M7 SMG, and when the complaints from fans all over the world started filling up their b.net hatemail, explaining that they have a better luck killing their opponent with a tiny Nerf football, THEN Bungie realised how bad their decision was.

It's like that for balance issues. You can bet your first born on it. If each weapon were exactly like their real life counter parts, everyone would be running around with an M4 in CS. And instead of complaining about its inaccuracy, people would be complaining about how it's a complete noobcannon.

Example, the G36E in BF2. That thing's scary accurate, and half the weapons used in a 64 player server are G36E's. It's ridiculous.

Well it still doesn't have anything to do with Halo PC nor Halo 2 Vista.
"DING DING ****ING DING".

It most certainly does have something to do with Halo PC. He says he likes Halo PC, and is asking for suggestions on other, good, comparable FPSes. What more is there to understand? If you'd stop being such an "omg this isn't on-topic!1!!!" N@zi, you might realize that.

Heyyo,

Quake 3 Arena was much better than Quake 4, cause Quake 4 doesn't quite flow as well... dunno how to quite put it...

UT2K4 has one of the BEST netcodes ever inna game. Totally awesome stuff. Infact, there's an incomplete Halo conversion for UT2k4 called "Project Torlan"
http://torlan.dragonstarelite.com/

I think the next games to mention would be Painkiller, which is great old skool FPS with new age graphics.

I say some of the better shooters are yet to come. Call of Juarez looks pretty sweet, so might get into that, and as long as Crysis mp isin't too unbalanced due to "upgrading" your player, that should be plenty fun too.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

Wait, what does Naz!s have to do with this?

Godwin's Law! Everybody loses.

Really, the question is are you looking for more single-player or multi-player action?

Freelancer is a good space fighter sim. Play single player through to about mission 7, then jump into MP. Lots of role playing. Just make sure you get on a low-ping server, it has netcode almost as bad as Halo's.

Counter-strike source is a not bad game, i'd say its beeting halo in its graphics and the guns are more realistic (not in the future), but other then that, yea c-s:s is an ok first person shooter

Nivek
it does NOT beat halo in graphics by a long shot considering there are barely any metalic bumpmap surfaces. css doesnt take a high end video card to run it well. The guns look realistic but they dont shoot realisticly. for example if you shoot the m4 in fully automatic, the m4 btw is one of the most accurate and widely use guns in the world, the spray will be so bad that it turns an assault rifle into an smg-it seems as if the spray comes out at a 180 degree angle. The game only sold good because of all the hype from the previous cs's in the series, in fact cs 1.6 was arguably the best in the series.

Oh c'mon !

I don't like the new Call of Duty releases i would pretty prefer the earlier versions on pc. Like Call of Duty 1 & its expansion pack ,United Offensive. The Single player modes are way better than in Cod 2, In my taste. Graphics are okay but Call of Duty 2 graphics are still better of course. But my personel favourite is the Medal of Honor Series. Somehow, the graphics on the console version are wierdly fake like the hands & all that. I whatever you do DON'T buy Medal of Honor Pacific Assault. Gameplay is seriously horrible, its fun for 2 days & boring for the rest of your life, although the graphics & physics are good. & apoc, CS:S graphics use the source engine which has way better graphics than the Halo series. ( Sorry Bungie ). & have you also tried Dark Messiah: Might & Magic ? Physics are like the best of the best. ( Made with Valve's Source Engine again )

Agreed. CS:S also performs better too. And you don't have to lead, yay!

So what? In CS games, by the time someone even THINKS of strafing, either you or your attacker is already dead. I think CS:S will work the same without lead or with lead.

Ahem, last time I saw the news channel on television, I didn't see U.S. Marines strafing in the wide-open where they can get shot. But whatever, I don't really care.

Kim, when do you ever see U.S. Marines engaging enemy forces at ranges less than 50m?

For combat flisht sims, it depends on if you want a realistic experience or an arcadey one.

For realism go for Il-2 Sturmovik, or M$ CFS3 (Not as good, but ok nonetheless)

For arcadey go for Heroes of the Pacific or Blazing Angels. Both are good.

Kim, CoD3 was bad. It's more and more of the same thing, the multiplayer was good, but the single plaer, to me at least, fell flat on it's face trying to seem like a history lesson in a video game.

wow, this is still going?

anyway, i am considering CoD2, or Battlefield 2142, Unreal Tournament 2004, and Counter Strike...

can anyone tell me what Battlefield 2142, UT2004, and CS are like?

Counter-Strike is a fast-paced multiplayer shooter. You play as terrorists or counter-terrorists and basically each team must take each other out. Each side has its own weapons, and each side its own classes of sorts. It's an unforgiving 1-2 shot kill system, that's blazingly fast. Loads of fun.

Not so sure about UT2004, check out the Wikipedia entry for more info.

Battlefield 2142 is well, Battlefield 2142. It's a huge multiplayer fest with large-scale battles, vehicles, weapons, classes, maps, etc.

All of these games pwn, and I wouldn't mind playing them over Halo.

I will list every first person shooter I own:

* Halo
* Halo Custom Edition
* Americas Army

With that information in mind, I will now recommend a non Halo shooter: Americas Army.

To play 2142 at any reasonable quality, you'll need at least 2 gigs of ram, a fairly new processor, and a fairly high-end GPU. That being said, only get 2142 if you know you can run it well.

I'm downloading CS:S right now (on Steam, you fools. I'm no pirate... well game pirate...), so once I play that a bit I'll let you know if you still want.

UT2K4 is the ultimate arcade shooter. I'd venture to say that it's even more unrealistic than Halo, and that's saying something. If you're into the arcade style, jump around and blow -blam!- up, then you'll like it. I've never really liked it, Battlefield, GRAW, etc anything realistic have always interested me far more.

America's Army is so awesome. It's got better graphics, better gameplay, and it's simply better than Halo, I think. Not to mention, it's freaking free. It's my favorite military simulator. It's a great game, that it is. Takes so much skill to play despite what everybody says (i.e. "but 1 shot gaems r teh suck!1!!1"). Not that Halo doesn't take skill, just saying.

GRAW was kind of weak when it came out on PC, but it's still good with the recent patches which update the AI, and it makes it much better.

GO DOWNLOAD THE PREY DEMO NOW!!!!

HOLY -blam!-!!!

That's easily one of the best games I've played in a LOOOOOOOONG time.

Beats the -blam!- out of Quake, Doom, etc. Almost as good as F.E.A.R....

I just don't understand why it's so unpopular, the single player is amazing.

I thought you were better than this, Nihilistic. F.E.A.R. on a side note is much more superior, not even close to Prey. Maybe it's better than Quake 4, but not better than Doom 3.

The single-player may be good, the visuals spectacular, but when you look at it, there's nothing original about it in terms of gameplay. The portals? Come on, they're really just doors with frills attached. The gravity puzzles aren't exactly genius, the weapons are practically the standard set of guns you'd find in a first-person shooter, just with an organic look. The multiplayer maps are too big, with the eight player limit (I'm pretty sure that's the max).

And Prey's age is quickly beginning to show, since it runs on the Doom 3 engine, which most systems today are beginning to handle well. It does look good mind you, but it looks a bit outdated compared to a game like F.E.A.R., and to be honest, I still think Doom 3 looks just as good, if not better.

Don't let the aesthetics detract you from realizing this is just another shooter. A solid one, mind you, but nothing too special.

So far, I've played the Prey demo more than Doom 3 as a whole.

This was pretty sweet. The story already has me hooked, as well.

Plus, it's $20 at GameStop right now... how could anyone pass that up?

No where did I say FEAR was bad. FEAR was one of the most amazing games I've ever played. If not the scariest - by far. Hell, when I first got it, my sister watched me play it for 5 minutes and had nightmares for a month.

Tell your sister I owe her a dollar for last night's services. What? She just made me a macaroni picture frame, is all.
