I know its an effort made around here to stop "elitism", but I think we need a new title added under our names. Perhaps it could be made from gathering data from your stats. For example, say you play Team Snipers alot and have many more headshots and sniper kills recorded than that of other medals, you'd have a "Headshot Hunter" title added beneath your avatar. Or say you have many, many triple kills, killtaculars, and up, you'd be a "Multi-kill Master".

Whadya think?

What about people who don't have XBox Live?

  • 12.01.2006 7:17 AM PDT

There isn't a point to have them other then to brag and be elitist.

Well Hobo, in some circumstances I agree. But it could also just be fun. I think (beyond all the problems) it would be kind of fun to work toward something good enough to display. I mean...I'm happy I'm married and so I wear a ring, it doesn't make me a relationship elitist.

It's fun to appear higher than other people?

It could work, but the problems that would ensue I'm sure are too many.

I think we need custom titles, possibly with links in them

No, it would be fun to work toward a goal and see it achieved. Not to be better but to satisy youself and reach your goal.

You are right though. Most would not have the ability to look beyond being "better." Though I still think the best way to avoid this is to have either moderator chosen members (based on continuing quality and intelligence) to receieve recognition in some way (rank or otherwise). That way the right folks are chosen and if they change the way they post the "recognition" can be removed.

Or, in a worse idea (due to the voting systems) have the community choose every once in a while who should be "recognized." The list of folks to choose from would be spurned, hopefully, from ninjas therby eliminating the extreme # to choose from.

Meh. What about the OldSkoolers? Or people who don't have Live?

How about special titles that denote a person's personality type without giving people the ability to parade one title over another without looking like a moron in the process? Surely it can't be that hard to come up with a few.

I don't like it. It's one giant popularity contest. Did I mention I hate those.

In........................................................Out .

I think we're good enough with our member titles, I'm a member and I'm proud of it!

2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

How bout members being able to chose from a list of pre-written titles? Don't even give me elite crap because you can't brag about something that everyone's entitled to chose from.

Or, instead of everybody getting titles, only certain people would get them. Now, before you say "omg no elitism pl0x," just listen. Anybody who makes some sort of significant contribution to the community/site/etc is eligible.

And, if I see the word "elitism" one more time, I think I'll explode.

*Edit*My bad Sgt, didn't see your post. But I do agree with you that only certain members should be able to get the special names.

I agree with some of what has been said here. Honestly, as many others, I do not see the point. Just to have more names for people but still have the same previlages is pointless in my opinion. I say, what about those without xbox live? What about those that do not play halo very often? What about those that do not come here for halo? What about those that don't play halo online due to massive amounts of "punks/jerks"? I am basically saying, that your titles are biased towards halo. Then again as I said, it does not matter because I have yet to read a point.

I also agree with what many have said. It will promote elitism. As long as there is a reason to be better than any body else, people will take it. A title is just the same. For example: One person may play Snipers more than another. Then gloat that they have a "better" name than another person has.

Well what I was saying is that everybody should have the opportunity to get the names, but only certain people would have them. Because, as we all know, not everybody makes contributions/helps/etc

While I do agree that members who contribute to the community should receive some sort of recognition, I don't know if it should be a title. Perhaps just an article about them that is permanently linked to their profile or something in that nature. I don't have any idea of what it should be.

...Don't even give me elite crap because you can't brag about something that everyone's entitled to chose from.

Easy there tiger.

How about the silliness over whether someone chooses between a Spartan or an Elite model or forms a group based on it?

Maybe not true (or typical) elitism, but certainly some form of twisted pre-teen prejudicial nonsense. And it sure is messy.

You see, insecure people will always look for a way to try to separate and then denigrate others in order to feel better about themselves. Just look at how Europe treats Belgium.

We have avatars... selectable avatars = selectable member titles. There's really no difference. Bungie gives us a few options, we chose. If there's any of that silly stuff it will probably be rare and there are millions of users on this site.

Same here... I hate that word. It's the excuse for EVERY idea on this site... didn't even Achronos himself say that the post count thing never caused elitism but they only removed it because of spam? If that won't promote elitism, what will?
